- Scott ToyGuru Neitlich continues his ground breaking RUclips series, MOTUC Director's Commentary with an in depth look at Sy Klone from the Masters of the Universe Classics toy line. Comes with our highest possible recommendation!
Wow Scott so impressed by how much you and the Horsemen packed the figures with little details that were a synthesis of all the iterations of the character. That is what made the classics line so fun.
Glad that was appreciated. Everyone who worked on this line did it with love
Really loving these videos. Feels like the fun parts of Matty Collector are back!
Well glad the fun parts are and not the unfun parts!
Really a great job on the motu classics version to make reference to the 80's line and the 200x line. Great job and great video.
Glad you enjoyed! Most grateful for taking the time to post as well!
Thanks Scott, Sy-Klone was a special one to me as well - still have my vintage, 200x and of course my beloved MOTU C version - what a knuckle buster this fella was when we were kids!
If only I could get my thumb back.
Sy-clone was always one of my favorite figures from the original line. He's awesome, still love him.
Nice. Maybe we will get him in Origins.
@@spectorcreative1872 That would make me very happy
I really love these videos you've made and all of the passion that you have for these figures and this brand. Awesome job. Thank you!
Thank you! It has been a labor of love. Be sure to share with your friends on social media. It helps the channel a ton!
Did anyone else think his face looked the same as He-mans?
Yes, indeed. I was thinking the same thing.
Yes! When I got the Classics I thought maybe they took the He-man head and placed the helmet instead of his hair piece. That was what I was thinking couple years back
Yeah, people have been noting that for years!
Everyone did. Even as a kid.
I thought it was a version of Faker
I was thinking about Sy Klone the other day. One of my faves as a kid.
He does come up a lot on lists!
I'm going all out on origins . So happy those action features are back this far. Im pretty happy with the classic ones I managed to get cept my fav I missed out .
Well I do hope it pays off for you!
I was never really a big fan of this character, but I did buy the 200x version of him. I liked that he wasn't in an awkward, forced pose like some of the other figures.
Anyway, keep the videos coming!
Keep watching and I'll keep makin em.
A bunch of my MotU figs in the 80's were hand-me-downs and others found in yard sales [I wasn't born till 84], but Sy Klone was always a favorite. I never had the sticker on his chest and for YEARS never knew what was supposed to be there. I'd draw random letters in there with washable markers and gave him different names, once in awhile I'd draw Saturn.
Those days before the internet could tell you everything were something else.
I miss those days
I owned this as a kid. Glad you mentioned hurting your thumb! It would have been an easy favorite for me except for the pain!
I always just rotated the torso itself to avoid having to use the thumb wheel.
Oh the pain! the pain!
Sc-Klones action feature was fun for a minute or two. Then for the rest of my childhood it was just annoying that he kept flopping around all over the place.
My thumb! My poor thumb!
Yes, sc-klone was the most disappointing figure. Compare it to the playvalue of webstor
Sy Klone was one of my favorites because he was blue and yellow, which are my favorites colors!!! When I would play with my actions figures back in the 80s sy klone was always the first one I grabbed LOL
And did he treat your thumb well? ;-P
@@spectorcreative1872 come to think of it I totally forgot that he was a little tough in the thumb LOL
This was the last figure I owned from the vintage line. Became one of my top 5 favorite figures from the line.
He remains cherished by many!
That red 200X one is pretty cool, never seen that one. Thanks for the chuckle you provided while trying to explain how a Gar can be Black/AA, etc. We get it 😎. Good stuff as usual.
Yeah it is never fun talking about toys and race. And that is why i made a video just about toys and race posting soon!
@@spectorcreative1872 awesome! It’s impact on our culture here in the U.S. is overlooked most times. I can tell you from experience that Clamp Champ from MOTU and Sun Man from Olmec were extremely well received in my community! As well as those awesome Bronze Bombers figures
Oh my thumbs would die after playing with my friend's Sy Klone. I actually have the commercial for Sy Klone on a VHS tape somewhere. My dad was recording Rankin Bass' Jack Frost off of TV and we had to go to sleep, he stayed up to record it and forgot to edit out the commercials. When we watched it years later we saw that old MotU commerical complete with the teaser ad for Stonedar and Rokkon! I had finally gotten my own when I was 16 when I found a classified ad in the back of a collector magazine from a man selling MOC/MIB MotU stuff. I wanted some MotU figures for Christmas and asked my mom for like 3. She asked me which ones and I told her to pick. "Why?, don't you know which ones you want?". "Yeah", I told her, "but if you pick it will be like when I was a kid and you would just pick up figures you thought I'd like.". So on Christmas morning I opened up Webstor, Two-Bad and Sy Klone. I consider him and the other two to be part of my childhood collection since they were given to me by one of my parents. I hope we see a Deluxe figure of him in Origins.
Those commercials were awesome!
I have extra fondness for these April items, because of a delivery foul-up that got them sent back to Mattel without my knowing it (longish story, won't bore you with it). When I was finally able to get them, at scalper prices, of course, I appreciated them all the more.
At least you can enjoy them now!
There should of been more Gar figures. Gars would be ideal to fill in characters in Preternia.
Some Gar ideas.
Ki-Lor: Evil Gar Warrior. Lots of weapons to make up for lack of a gimmick. Or his gimmick is hidden blades which pop out.
Spar-Kor: Heroic Gar Master of Lighting. Has a spark shooting gimmick.
May-Hem: Kil-Lor's Evil Henchmen.
I'm all for it. Hear this Mattel? Make it happen
2 things. 1) Totally agree about his action feature. I can't look at this figure without my poor thumb throbbing with phantom pain from all the playtime in the 80's. and 2) I never realized he was a Gar like Keldor/Skeletor! With his name being Sy-KLONE (clone) and his blue skin, and looking somewhat like He-Man in the face, and the hologram radar in his chest, I always assumed as a kid that Sy-Klone was a robot on par with Faker.
That may just be from me equating him with Red Tornado though...who was another wind powered robot.
He wasn't really a Gar until the 200X series. In the vintage line he was just a blue dude. Heck, in Filmation he came from outer space!
Mr. Yellow Pants himself is an example why I love MotUC until this day. You take something old and turn it into a complete new design and it worked better that the old one.
Very much so!
I used to have the original Sy-klone, great toy
Still one of the best!
Great videos btw ,I am enjoying the content.
Glad to hear! Any suggestions for content is always welcomed!
I always loved this later He-Man fig and character; wish we had scene more of him in the classic as well at the 2000s cartoon too.
Anyone else think his original face sculpt looked a bit like He Man's?
Oh it totally did!
I will agree that Sy Klone's action feature is a thumb killer. But it is still a cool feature. The colors are iconic.
Agree on all!
Oh yeah! I love Syclone, but all that spinning ... my thumb still hurts and I haven’t seen my Syclone in 20 years! You have to spin him to fly, to knock down guys and you just couldn’t hold him without spinning. I remember the surprise I had when I found out his arms actually moved like the regular figures as well as the special shoulder joint for thumb hating fun.
My thumb hurts just thinking about it
Back in the days of the original MOTU line, I didn’t know what to make of the unique Sy-Klone, did he have a backstory I missed? I even thought he was a relative of He-Man, because their faces looked so alike.
You know a lot of folks note that. I often wonder if it was done on purpose...
Great review ! I was wondering if you ran across anything related to the Inhumanoids in the Hasbro archives. If so , it would make great content for a video . Thanks 😸
Alas no, but I'll see what I can find out.
Spector Creative I’m such a dope ! You worked for Mattel , not Hasbro . Jayce and the Wheeled Warriors would be a fascinating retrospective if you ran across it in the archive .
The one thing that I love about the MOTU Classics' line is that every figure was amazing. No one was half arsed *cough*Marvellegends*cough* Even if Sy didn't get an "Asian" head sculpt he's still an amazing figure. I didn't even know he was suppose to have been retconned into being Asian in the 200x line anyway. Just thought he looked very samuari inspired. Per your personal opinion Scott, would you consider Sy Klone Asian now? Never really saw color in MOTU only species.
Oh he was certainly "supposed" to be Asian in 200X. Look at the eye design.
Cool fact. Anwat Gar got its named from Angkor Wat
That does make sense!
@@spectorcreative1872 i couldn't remember where I read it. Its apparently a wordplay on Angkor Wat
Sy-Klone is awesome. I hurt My thumb playing with him too.
Anti Thumb toys...
@@spectorcreative1872 😄
I would like to know more about the cowboy type He-Man. He had guns come out of his leg or something. I always wanted that one but I never got it
That would be Rio Blast. His video is coming!
When i was a kid I thought it was a version of Faker/He-Man. I had the figure before I ever saw him in the show so I pretended he was an armored up mixture of He-Man and Skeletor
Hey that is not a bad kid based interpretation! Blue skin and all.
Wind powers with Uranus on his belt buckle? ....I'm an adult...I'm not snickering..hahahahahaha
Get you mind out of the... oh wait. I just got it. Ha!!
Perhaps, in the Masterverse line we will get a Filmation version.
I think Masterverse will be only int he new Netflix style. But hey I could be wrong!
Hmmm, I always thought Shokoti was a Gar too! Not so?
I was going to make the same comment.
@@meissean And what about Ditztroyer? He's pretty Garish looking too!
Yup
@@robdrabkowski2708 oh yeah! You're right - forgot about him.
So was he off the same race as Keldor,? And what about Trap jaw?
See here:ruclips.net/video/svxJscE8veU/видео.html
What eposide is Sy-Klone in Filmation?
He is in multiple episodes
The 200X repairs cheapened the line back then. Disco Skeletor kind of works now but even that was awful in 2003
Like a fine wine better in time
Maybe the 2000x red Sy Clone was a shout out to Red Tornado. The color schemes are pretty much the same.
That or lazy designers. One of the two
I called him Ty-Fune so he could be a new character on my shelf.
So are the Gar similar to elves?
I definitely believe they were leaning it that way somewhat. It's also made a bit more obvious in the Eternity War comics as they tell the history of King Grayskull, Adi and Skeletor's mother... They seem to be represented as very elflike.
I think they were going for a Eternian Atlantis. If you compare the maps, in Preternia, Anwat-Gar is a huge island with city's. On the map of present day Eternia, it is reduced to a small island with a Temple and some smaller buildings.
If you look at Cyclone's armor, it's more technological and advanced looking then most of the others. This would indicate a high level of technology and science. This is relevant because Cyclone was the last to remain on Anwat-Gar, when the others left who knows how long ago, so their style isn't pure Gar any-more.
Pointy ears do not an elf make. Is Spoke an Elf?
All I can think of is my sore thumb from this one yet I couldnt stop spinning it .was mattel trying to hurt us ? On s side note ever have a heman vintage toy hit you in the face it's like throwing a rock
Yes, I think Mattel was deliberately trying to hurt thumbs. (J/K)
Wasn't sure where to post this, but I figure it's a question you've been asked. Why is Wave 2 and 3 of Masters of the Universe origins released faster overseas than in the United States? Especially if it's a american-made product. I know as a collector I've asked this several times, and I'm sure other people have asked me as well. Might be a good topic for a later video.
It all depends on which retailers get their orders in first
@serick73 What part of my post brought you to an "entitlement" issue? I was just asking a question. You ok, bro? You need to talk?
I still need this one. Let him slip in favor of harder to find motucs a few times. Now I don't have him and can't find him any-more 🙄
He may be whirrling through the air...
@@spectorcreative1872 if he is, he's always welcome to land on my shelf.
I guess that red thing is the dish for the radar on his chest.
Hey, why not!
What was your favorite nes game?
The first Zelda
I often think that the story of He Man's role in his universe was just one small piece to a larger story he and his origin was a secret who he atchly was only the master at arms knew this fact which is one strange element to this story I was wondering was the king real not aware of his sons identity at all, of a father or mother knows they own son but with magic involved sharing secrets are hard that said in a future story his father & mother do find out the truth eventually but is this because magical swords and castle can't hide secrets from family? As for the toy figures and what came about with many new characters which had some strange names and features and some that were so weird but kinda clever play on names but like this one you showed here of course there was a Blue He Man who was a anti He Man a villain and there was even another version which was a android which was turned evil by you know who later was rebuilt but was given a new name? Forgot the name but he became a keeper of Grayskull or something?
Are you thinking of Faker?
ruclips.net/video/n0pgOxFlKDM/видео.html
Wasn’t Trapjaw a Gar?
Yup
Yeah, that NES controller was brutal
Thank goodness the put the MAX out.
The reason for the Celtic Monk in The Doctor Strange movie was because the original monk in the comic book was Tibetan and China is the biggest market for the MCU movies. China has issues with anyone mentioning Tibet or the Dalai Lama so hence the change. A lot of people at the time cried foul but the real reason is far more sinister.
Not arguing that point at all! Good thoughts.
Jupiter has rings but they are not visible from earth you need to get really close to see them
And Kaya with the space facts win!
@@spectorcreative1872 space fact? I saw it in a cartoon :P
I never realised Sy Klone was supposed to be asianish in 200X.
At least that was the intent.
@@spectorcreative1872 Obviously I knew the outfit etc was asian inspired but I didn't get that he himself was supposed to look asian.
Sy Klone ..... the horde troopers whisperer.
Ha
Dude looks like a construction worker with that weird yellow helmet.
My wife calls me Sy Klone because I have wind power.
Lucky man
So, the next video is about KIKI the cute cat? Shame, shame! (LOL)
I do what the cat tell me to do.
Lacktion feature. Why not actually make him fuckin spin? They could do it in the 80s and sell the toys for 3 bucks, these are like 50-60 bucks.
It would have required a tool mechanism and Classics was run on a shoestrong budget.
