I don't get the disappointment some people have with this not being an Omni, I know it's oversized and ends up being cheaper but Omnis are so hard to read comfortably, you basically have to be sitting straight with the book laying flat on a table. I read vol 1 of this super comfortable laying down on my couch, this is the perfect size and I wish more stuff would be done in this format instead of just pumping out Omnis. What I'm curious is if this line will continue into Jurgens or if they consider this just connects to the Exile Omni and that will be that.
@@TheHardcoverComic There's also big chunks that if I'm not mistaken haven't been collected for a long time or at all in newer formats. So MoS HCs might go to 5, at which point Jurgens and the Exiled Omni takes over, but after that you only have the Death and Return Omni. Leaving a gap between Superman (vol2) #38-72 that's only been done in softcovers or not at all - stuff like Eradication, Krisis of the KK, Time & Time, Panic in the Sky, etc. Marvel are killing it with putting their back catalog in print, DC needs to step up their game. Post-Crisis Superman until Jurgens left in #150 is the best!
Agreed 100%. I just got my vol 2 delivered today. Waiting for Vol 1 coming from eBay order. Love the paper and construction. I used to love the idea of an Omni. But I would love to see more stuff produced in this format.
I love omnis but I really enjoyed reading Vol 1 in standard hardcover. The package as a whole is fantastic and the paper is awesome too. Colors pop, paper stock is thick enough and no glare!
Thank you Matt!!! Im sold...this is the Superman i grew up on as well btw...i think these volumes will have to lead into my series of post crisis Superman (from Byrne through Jurgens) something that ive been planning for 20 years now lol
Hey Matt, I've been looking to light my shelves of books for a while now and wanna try to use LED light strips, is that safe for the books or will it do damage to them?
What do you think of The Death and Return of Superman Omni? Is it on par with the quality of John Byrne's and Exile Omni? Or is it overrated and dependent on a plot twist gimmick like Batman's Knightfall? I'm debating wether to buy it or not whenever DC decides to reprint it.
Personally I would definitely get it. I enjoyed it quite a bit. But everyone is different. I also love Knightfall, so my opinion may be different than yours lol. I always suggest reading stuff digitally prior to laying down some cash for an Omni. Just enough to see if you like it.
@@TheHardcoverComic Based on people's opinions I heard both Knightfall and Death of Superman loses steam after Batman gets his back broken and after Supes dies. Especially Knightfall since its three omnibuses long. Just things I've heard. That's why I've been keeping away from them. Not only that but 90s comics have a bad stigma on them.
Agree 100% on the matte paper stock that DC is using. I love it, and the colors look great on it in my opinion. Love the channel!

Great question! I would love to see it go into Jurgens stuff. I was going to custom bind some runs if not.

The production value on these Superman books is gorgeous
Great review, got Vol 1 and enjoyed it so will definitely be picking this up.
Alan Moore's run on Supreme has a lot of great thinly veiled Superman tropes.
Loved Vol 1, I’ve preordered vol 3, and about to tear vol 2.

I really want to bind the stuff after this as well. Just hard to map out with so many different titles.
@@TheHardcoverComic ive got a working map...if you want......i just need to adjust some of the volume sizes...i made them really big fir some reason.
That would be great!
You sold me. Gotta get Exile too
I’m not a fan of whoever inked over Byrnes pencils. He really muted Byrnes style.

Led lights are fine since they don’t emit any kind of UV light. One of these days I’m going to light up my shelves as well!
How many volumes will this series have in total?
I THINK 5 or 6 in total

Yeah they’re not for everyone. Early 90s is when I really started to get into comics, so for me maybe it’s more nostalgia, but I love it all.
You've got a voice made for Radio
Thanks! I have a face made for radio as well. Lol
