OMG. finally someone does a review on these cans! There was no other review for these headphones... So glad I subscribed to you a few days ago XD Thanks! I heard these cans were the players for BASS.. please comment on that :D
Great review. I just purchased the Nuforce u-dac2 headphone amp and am looking forward to pairing these 'phones with it. Can't wait to get my pro 700's in the mail :)
Alot of people who have bought these like me have found these to be amazing but a lack of padding. What you can do and what I did was email audio technica and ask for a pair of replacement pads from the ath 50s. These will be one of the best headphones you can own.
These are one of the best cans you can buy for that price. I have just got a pair and i love them. They are perfect for casual listening exspecially if you like EDM but they will preform great on any other genres. You will get clear mids and highs amazing bass and a well built pair of cans.
One of the reviews on head-fi has an section on how to make them slightly more comfy. If you're interested you should check it out. You could also get replacement velour pads from beyerdynamic. Hope this helps.
pro 700mk2 hands down, clearer and more detailed mids to mid-highs, little less emphasis on the highs, but has suuuuuuuuuuch a good bass punch and bass detail, it does this so good that the mids and highs are not run in the mud, BEST bass headphone with detail(quantity and quality combined)
Yes they do fit? Ive had them on my PRO700's for a year now and they havent even moved.. They fit perfect. And any earpads get get uncomfortable if you wear them for a while. You could get some softer ones but it would ruin the bass punch.
Out of the three headphones you brought up ( M50, 700mk2, and 500mk2 ) which has the best bass. Also if you don't mind answering if I should chose one of those or the Ultrasone 550 cause I heard those have goo bass as well and aren't as expensive as the 990
Which set would be better for general use the ATH-M50 or the ATH-Pro 700MK2, il ike the pro 700 due to it having detachable cables and not a ridiculous length
I love these headphones. they are a bit uncomfortable after long use and for some strange reason the left side is louder than the right side of the headphone. Any reason why that may happen?
funny thing is that the m50 earpads wont fit in the pro700 since the pro700 has a circular style earcup, and the m50 earpads from what i heard are uncomfortable for long periods of use
which one should i buy??? ath m50?? or 700mk2.. i will use it for: -DJing -DAC amp (hifi music) -Gaming (x360) -iPod on the go (lossless files) thanks for answering!
iw as gonna get red but then i thought about it and picked black for practicality, i love the red though looks amazing, but the gray ones look really cool too, how is the bass?
I know this wasn't directed at me, but thanks for the comment I was just about to ask about t he bass on these. I'm a bass head and trying to figure if I should get these or Ultrasone 550 cause I heard those have booming bass too.
I'm trying to get the M50's but they're unavailable everywhere I checked. Should I get these instead? Or could you recommend a pair of really great headphones within this price range?
Can you suggest a pair of headphones I can use while working on my computer and while I am traveling. I would prefer to have over-ear headphones..but am open to whatever style just as long as I can hear the bass and highs in my music. I am coming from Apple stock ear-buds.
The PRO700MK2 is a bass monster, through and through. The sound is insanely colored towards the lower frequencies. They punch even harder than the Beats Studios or Solos. I have never auditioned the Pros, so I can't comment on that model. In short, there is no way the PRO700MK2s can be considered neutral, analytical, flat, whatever. They are just there for the bass, period.
are these good for listening Dubstep and other electronic music in a casual way? im looking for the best headphones for under 200€ with the best bass quality I can get. Any suggestions?
hey im kinda a bass head myself..would these would be the right headphones for me? or which one would you recomend for me, would really help me out alot thanks
Been using these heaphones for about 4months now. Comfort isn't one of their strong points, they squeeze ur head like crazy, when u put them on your ears thers no padding lik metal on your ears fixed by removing the cups and padding it up which has helped alot they do wear in and they aren't as tight on your head anymore. THE SOUNDS IS FKING AMAZING! THE HIGHS AND LOWS ARE JUST soo colorful just amazing... BEST HEADPHONES EVEER!. thinking about buying the 50th anniversary ones for the hell of it
80 hours, you can also use better sources than mp3 and iphone/ipods and lower the bass frequencies. With higher end headphones comes with true hearing, you'll hear all the imperfections in the recording so if a band makes bad quality music, you'll hear it, if it makes good music you'll eargasm. also if its clarity your looking for, you'be bought the wrong headphones, these are basshead headphones not more monitoring or DJs making music get the shure 840 if you want clarity in sound.
@ipablo16 Pro700 should do fine in classical and jazz, but it primarily has a lot of bass, making it shine in hip-hop/dubstep/rap/r&b/ ect. If you are looking for tip-top clarity in Classical and Jazz, get the M50's.
wolfdruidkiba I have read numerous reviews. The 700 mk2's are the people's preference. However, there were many concerns on the ear pads being uncomfortable. Fortunately, you can change it with the m50 pads, which seems to be the only solution at the moment.
Thank you for this review! I need a workout headphones after breaking so many eurbuds. I was.. WAS going to get a Beats by Dr. Dre but realized it's just hype (good at bass, but still over hyped). I really like these now. Looks sturdy. For my video editing setup I use Beyerdynamic DT700 Pro but for my ipod I think I am getting these or Ultrasone Pro900 but I think these look so much stronger. Thank you for the nice review
it just shows the wider line 10-30khz beats probably arent even there, hmmm i really want bass i hope its good :/ can u record a sound of them play bassy song with ur iphone?
The m50s are going to give you a purely neutral sound, while the Pro700s are DJ headphones. This means that the Pro700s are going to have a more accentuated bass response. There's a video on RUclips that explains this in more detail.
For anyone who's confused, or just uninformed. When he states that Beats give a certain character to the music, he's implying that Beats are horrid, and water down the music. If you need an explanation. For any of the simple minded people, the drivers in Beats only cost around $40 itself, the design isn't special, it's plastic. Also, the pads used for them are also made in the cost range of $20.
When you are considering to buy a headphone, it's always best to attempt to find a place to demo them yourself (ex headphone or guitar stores) to try your own music on them and see if they suit your ears.. Remember sound is "ALWAYS" subjective and one headphone that I enjoy the next person may not, so try them out...
definetly these, they got a wider frequency range, and are way superior than the m50's the only issue with them is that they are extremely rare to find, so if you cant find these just get the m50's :P
OMFG I KNOW RIGHT, NOT ONE VIDEO ABOUT pro500mk2, I bought them yesterday too from japan, so they should arrive in a couple of weeks, price doesn't matter because price of 700's is more because of the shipping, in japan they are cheaper, did you receive yours yet? i read some reviews people said that they are same or even 500's are better, they sure look better and have the same drive size..
Like hell they do!! Well not with an ipod or something with small sound cards, but a nice PC with bass boost selected they shake like a car system in your ear
(INFORMATIONAL COMMENT) M50 : extreme fidelity and warm bass. Pro700Mk2 : M50 + more clarity, moaaar BASS (i'd estimate 5-6 more dB) but seriously needs better pads. I'd recommend Gel Pads (Freaken love my gel pads) WS99 : Pro700Mk2 + BASS² + Ear Massage + some decent ear pads... still recommend Gel pads if you wanna rape your ears. (I OWN ALL THESE HEADPHONES and some others. I'm an audiophile. I know my Schiit.)
I JUST ORDERED ATH-PRO500MK2 black, from japan, so in a couple of weeks i should get them, from all the reviews they are much better than pro700mk2, i hope its true cause they look much better and have same size drives
Help pls. Has anyone tried the beyerdynamic dt250 velour earpads on this? Heard they fit and they certainly fit the m50s, but just wondering if any modding is needed on the pads to make em fit.
I'm torn between these, v moda m100's which I've owned before, and ultrasone 580 HFI's. Whatever I get I plan to get one of those 130 $ FIlo DAC/AMP units for better sound card and amplification.. what do you think out of those three?
Get these. But buy a pair of M50 earpads because the earpads that it comes with are like stones to your face. And if you want it even more comfortabel you could do what i did and find some kind of foam headband to put on the top part because i can get a little uncomfortable despite the padding. I took the headband off my hold Sennheiser HD 202's and it fit perfectly. Ill never buy anything other than these the audio and build quality is outstanding. These headphones can take a hard beating!
Geekanoids OK buying the audio-technica ath-pro700mk2 And even what do you say? FiiO A3 Portable Headphone Amplifier Thanks let me know what do you think i heard the 50x in store i liked but i would like the high frequencies of the 50x but with a fairly low frequency
Geekanoids Ok i order today the Pro 700 Mk2 and if I feel the need in the first few days I also buy a small amplifier thanks so much for the advice you are a friend!
reply to me what you think is the best headphones under 200$. even though they retail at 250 i can probably find it on amazon for 200 or less. NEED SUGGESTIONS. right now these are my choice:) thanks!
what diffrences between pro 700 and pro 700 mk2 ?
OMG. finally someone does a review on these cans! There was no other review for these headphones... So glad I subscribed to you a few days ago XD Thanks!
I heard these cans were the players for BASS.. please comment on that :D
oh I've been eyeing this headphone for a long time to complete my headphone frequency coverage collection.. great review dave.!
Great review. I just purchased the Nuforce u-dac2 headphone amp and am looking forward to pairing these 'phones with it. Can't wait to get my pro 700's in the mail :)

You could also get replacement velour pads from beyerdynamic.
Hope this helps.
if they are for monitoring in a professional capacity, then would you say they are not for general home listening?
pro 700mk2 hands down, clearer and more detailed mids to mid-highs, little less emphasis on the highs, but has suuuuuuuuuuch a good bass punch and bass detail, it does this so good that the mids and highs are not run in the mud, BEST bass headphone with detail(quantity and quality combined)

Great video Dave! Where can i purchase these apart from its own website?
I love these headphones. they are a bit uncomfortable after long use and for some strange reason the left side is louder than the right side of the headphone. Any reason why that may happen?
What should i do the solve the problem of the earpads being uncomfortably?
Would you prefer these over Beyerdynamic custom pro one ?
Would you recommended buying these over the ath m50
@anim8ordude So which one of those have the best audio quality?
funny thing is that the m50 earpads wont fit in the pro700 since the pro700 has a circular style earcup, and the m50 earpads from what i heard are uncomfortable for long periods of use
the ATH-Pro 700 Mk2 or ATH-Pro500BK for everyday music listening ?
How do these compare with the WS99
which one should i buy??? ath m50?? or 700mk2..
i will use it for:
-DJing
-DAC amp (hifi music)
-Gaming (x360)
-iPod on the go (lossless files)
thanks for answering!
should i buy this or the m50, or go for pioneer HDJ1000?
@007pished OK for both.
iw as gonna get red but then i thought about it and picked black for practicality, i love the red though looks amazing, but the gray ones look really cool too, how is the bass?
I know this wasn't directed at me, but thanks for the comment I was just about to ask about t he bass on these. I'm a bass head and trying to figure if I should get these or Ultrasone 550 cause I heard those have booming bass too.
how would you compare this to the d1100? In terms of warmth and bass impact
which one is better? athpro700mk2 or m50? I listen to electronic music and to hardcore, deathmetal, metal. please answer
I'm trying to get the M50's but they're unavailable everywhere I checked. Should I get these instead? Or could you recommend a pair of really great headphones within this price range?

Why can't I find a review on this against the anniversary version? The price difference is quite big yet I don't see more but aesthetics improved.
maybe you said it but i didnt heard it. But do they have noise cancellation??
are they on ear or over ear?
Are these better than the M50s in terms of sound quality?
How do they compare to the Pioneer HDJ-1500-K?
I've read like 15 comments and I'm puzzled at the thought of buying these or the M50's. Which one should clean my pockets???
will you ever review any more tokyo flash watches? i really wanted to see the night vision or kisai 7 reviewed properly :)

Do you know if these are better than the Beyerdynamic DT 770 PRO. I can't decide between the two.
How are these compared to Ultrasone HFI-580?
@TheTechMundo No, they are super comfortable.
R these better than the Audio Technica ATH-M50s??

What about the 700 Mk2 headphones versus the ATH-AD1000X headphones?
How many pairs of headphones do you own?
@ipablo16
Pro700 should do fine in classical and jazz, but it primarily has a lot of bass, making it shine in hip-hop/dubstep/rap/r&b/ ect.
If you are looking for tip-top clarity in Classical and Jazz, get the M50's.
i also have a crushed head from these AMAZING headphones what padding did you use? i cant seem to find anything that fits. :(
@rkey16 that hasn't really got to do with phone battery. Any headphone will use the same amount of battery power from your phone.
You can definitely get them online but you can also get them in store but not in any of the main stores like target
wolfdruidkiba I have read numerous reviews. The 700 mk2's are the people's preference. However, there were many concerns on the ear pads being uncomfortable. Fortunately, you can change it with the m50 pads, which seems to be the only solution at the moment.
Felt good to me.
Dave please make a video comparing these with the M50 please I have a hard time choosing some say m50 and some say mk2 help
helloo, do you anywhere where you can get replacement padding for the headphones????
Thank you for this review! I need a workout headphones after breaking so many eurbuds. I was.. WAS going to get a Beats by Dr. Dre but realized it's just hype (good at bass, but still over hyped). it just shows the wider line 10-30khz beats probably arent even there, hmmm i really want bass i hope its good :/ can u record a sound of them play bassy song with ur iphone?
whats the bass like, do they shake at 5hz. Im looking for headphones that have amazing bass, like bamm throw me against the wall bass,
Are these over ear
@LPXDproductions They certainly would.
The m50s are going to give you a purely neutral sound, while the Pro700s are DJ headphones. This means that the Pro700s are going to have a more accentuated bass response. There's a video on RUclips that explains this in more detail.
How do these compare to m50s
What headphone is good for every day use, by a regular person looking for a good head phone
Are these surrond sound or stereo?
This one or Beyerdynamic Custom one pro ?
For anyone who's confused, or just uninformed.
When he states that Beats give a certain character to the music, he's implying that Beats are horrid, and water down the music.
If you need an explanation. For any of the simple minded people, the drivers in Beats only cost around $40 itself, the design isn't special, it's plastic.
Also, the pads used for them are also made in the cost range of $20.
Personally I like the sound of Pro700 better, but I feel M50 is a lil more comfortable. Since I value sound over comfort, I went with the Pro700. :)
When you are considering to buy a headphone, it's always best to attempt to find a place to demo them yourself (ex headphone or guitar stores) to try your own music on them and see if they suit your ears.. Remember sound is "ALWAYS" subjective and one headphone that I enjoy the next person may not, so try them out...
what major stores can you get these form
I've been DJing some parties and i have been looking for some good headphones and i think these will be perfect
@davomrmac so ath-pro700 or ath-m50
how long do these things take to burn in? my 20 dollar earphones sound more clear than these.. they sound muddy..
@davomrmac how do you compare this pair of headphones with beats mixr? are they better?
definetly these, they got a wider frequency range, and are way superior than the m50's
the only issue with them is that they are extremely rare to find, so if you cant find these just get the m50's :P
@RamenBowlKing but can I listen to classical or jazz and have decent audio?
m50's or these?
OMFG I KNOW RIGHT, NOT ONE VIDEO ABOUT pro500mk2, I bought them yesterday too from japan, so they should arrive in a couple of weeks, price doesn't matter because price of 700's is more because of the shipping, in japan they are cheaper, did you receive yours yet? i read some reviews people said that they are same or even 500's are better, they sure look better and have the same drive size..
Do anyone know if audio technica make headphones with microphones on them?
Are these better than the m50's?
Yes.
@KaitoDoraemon Totally they will not disappoint.
the best is the m50x or this ? i need to use for gaming ^^ (and mobile utilisation) full 3.5mm
Do these vibrate every time you feel the bass ?
No.
Like hell they do!! Well not with an ipod or something with small sound cards, but a nice PC with bass boost selected they shake like a car system in your ear
(INFORMATIONAL COMMENT)

What would you recommend? as the WS99 are not sold anymore, I know this is a late response.
@marquesbrownlee Thanks, checking yours out now.
idk i listened to beats and bass on them wasnt that good, i hope on these its deeper
And for those with really sharp ears, more clarity too.
I'm torn between these, v moda m100's which I've owned before, and ultrasone 580 HFI's. Whatever I get I plan to get one of those 130 $ FIlo DAC/AMP units for better sound card and amplification.. what do you think out of those three?
+bluex217 These :D
m50 or these? please reply anybody
@freekingbee Yes on spread shirt.geekanoids then either .co.uk or .com
Are they comfy?! Those are the ones I want to buy!
How are the bass in these compared to Skullcandy Crushers ? I am looking for heaphones with very deep, hard hitting bass
+Paintball Noob It is quite convincing but not bass heavy.
+Paintball Noob these will crush your skull in if you wear them too long. Horrible torture device, extremely uncomfortable. Sound is good tho XD
If you're a basshead, I suggest the ultrasone hfi 550, and there's quite a lot more bass in those than these.
Get these. But buy a pair of M50 earpads because the earpads that it comes with are like stones to your face. And if you want it even more comfortabel you could do what i did and find some kind of foam headband to put on the top part because i can get a little uncomfortable despite the padding. What do you recommend these in the video and the 50x or the 70x i listen to music rep and hip hop and i love the bass
Yes I would.
Geekanoids OK buying the audio-technica ath-pro700mk2
And even what do you say?
FiiO A3 Portable Headphone Amplifier
Thanks let me know what do you think i heard the 50x in store i liked but i would like the high frequencies of the 50x but with a fairly low frequency
You will love the Pro 700 Mk2. Great choice. Not so sure on FiiO, they make some great models and some not so great.
Geekanoids Ok i order today the Pro 700 Mk2 and if I feel the need in the first few days I also buy a small amplifier thanks so much for the advice you are a friend!
@mockmark thanks.
They made a 50th edition limited edition gold one the parts that are white/silver are gold but not real gold.
reply to me what you think is the best headphones under 200$. even though they retail at 250 i can probably find it on amazon for 200 or less. NEED SUGGESTIONS. right now these are my choice:) thanks!
