    We run a few of these for conferences and AV set ups. Mostly pushing Dante and NDI. They work well.

    Thanks. This video was very informative and answered a number of my questions. It's unfortunate that Unifi couldn't have just mentioned this information. I like the switch except for the design concerning the 1GbE PoE port (and I think the switch could be a little cheaper).
    My use case is: use a 10 GbE port in the USW-Flex-XG as an uplink to a 10 GbE switch in my server room. Use the power adapter to power the USW-Flex-XG. Then, it would be nice if the 1 GbE port can OUTPUT power to a PoE device like a camera. To me, it's unrealistic to use a 10GbE port as an uplink and then use the 1 GbE port to receive power from another device. Doesn't make sense to me. But at least I know that I can use a 10 GbE port as an uplink, use the power adapter to power it, and then use the 1 GbE port to connect to some other 1 GbE device like a printer, for example. It would be nice if the 1 GbE port can output power if one were using the power adapter to power the switch.

    Thank you for the video, I had the same question about using one of the 10GbE ports for the uplink and this answered that.

    bonded two 1gbe ports on my synology 920+ via ubiquiti flex xg to double my transfer rates. went from avg 90MB/s to avg 180MB/s. worth it

    Can we skip using port 1? I want a 10gbe connection from my main network closet in the main house, to the CAT8 run that goes to my guest house (physically separated buildings) The guest house has the 10gbe NAS and Mac Mini with 10gbe network port. I'm trying to avoid the 1gb bottle neck. I have this on order so I guess I'll experiment, but I thought I'd ask while I wait. I'll need to power via USB C in the back of course.

      Yes you can. The benefit of using the first port is to provide power, but as you said you can power it using the USB port.

    I mean this feels like it should cost 50 USD, maximum 100 USD.
    There are only 4 ports with 10GBE, no faster uplink port, and the POE-in port isn't even 10GBE.
    This is clearly a budget desktop switch, even if it has basic management features.
    10GBE prices are still nowhere near where they should be.

    Hey, I have a dumb question. I connect my UDM SE to my Aggregator switch via SFP+.
    Now i want to connect my aggregator to the synology NAS (same rack) and to two computers, each in a different room
    How do I do that?

    • @hz777
      @hz777  Год назад +1

      Please check the “10 GbE home network” video on my channel. If your NAS and computers come with RJ45 ports, you need SFP+ to RJ45 modules.
      For the computers in another room, it may not be that easy. Depending on how long the cable is, you may want use fiber to connect the aggregation switch in your rack to another aggregation switch in another room, or if you can wire the rooms with normal Ethernet cables, you may not need another aggregation switch.
      I notice your comment is under this video about this rj45 switch. yes, it’s another option. Check the video I mentioned above.

      @@hz777 thanks for the quick reply. Just subscribed! Can I ask you another question?
      My ISP cable is in my utility closet. and all my house cat6 cables end in my utility closet.
      I am mounting my server rack in another room (UDM, switch, NAS, etc).
      I plan to leave my ISP modem as a bridge in the utility closet, buy a switch, connect it to both the modem and all the cat6 cables. Then this switch will connect to my ethernet wall jack in the room where the server is. Would that work?

    • @hz777
      @hz777  Год назад +1

      @@lucastech_brasil I don't think so. The problem is your modem and your other cables should be connected to different ports on your UDM. The modem's cable should be connected to the WAN port of UDM, and the other cables to the to LAN port. it seems you have to put your UDM in your closet.

      I would put udm and existing switches in closet, and add another switch to server room.

    Hi, I have 5 computers and a NAS with 10Gbe. Can I connect two UniFi Flex 10Gbe together and only connect one back to the Dream Machine SE? So (A) Flex 1Gbe connects back to DM SE, Port 1 10Gbe connect to (B) Flex Port 1 10Gbe, the rest of the 5 10Gbe ports to computers and the last 10Gbe port to the NAS.

    • @hz777
      @hz777  11 месяцев назад +1

      Yes, you can for sure, but it's too expensive to use two USW-Flex-XG but only get 5 usable ports. I would go with USW-Aggregation instead.

      @@hz777 Thanks for the quick reply and the suugestion! Sorry, I'm a newbie at this. If you don't mind I have a few more questions.
      1) If I go the USW-Aggregation option - does that mean I connect the Dream Machine SE via 10G SFP+ port to the USW-Aggregation 10G SFP+ port and then connect 5 computers and NAS to the USW Aggregation 10G SFP+ ports - all with SFP / SFP+ to RJ45 Adapter? So that way I can have 10Gbe connect from the 5 computers to the NAS?
      2) If I need to expand to two more computers - can I use the remaining 10G SFP+ port on USW-Aggregation and connect to the USW-Flex-XG Port 1 10 Gbe and connect the two computers to the Port2 and 3 10Gbe? So that all 7 computers have 10Gbe to the NAS?
      3) Did you find out why in your video you didn't get near 10Gbe when you connected with the adapter?
      Thanks again, appreciate the help!

      1)yes 2) yes 3) I don't remember the details of the scene you mentioned , but there can be tons of possible causes while the ability of the switch will be the last of them.

    I'm seriously looking at this switch I like the Mikro Tik gear the problem is those RJ45 transceivers are 45.00 plus. You run into heat problems if you look at their documentation they suggest that you leave an empty slot between RJ45 transceivers due to the heat that they produce. Now if you are running DAC or fiber which produces very little heat you are good to go. The problem is in a home environment cat cable is just more practical. I have my gear in separate rooms most people that jump on the Mikro Tik bandwagon have all of their gear in the same location so they can just run DAC cables.

    • @hz777
      @hz777  2 года назад

      I agree. But the 4 port Mikrotik is not really for server room usage, so using DAC may not be practical. I do own a Mikrotik CRS326, and I use RJ45 modules there without any issues.

    • @alphabanks
      @alphabanks 2 года назад

      @@hz777 You are correct the 4 port is not for the server room.
