- In this video, I show how to change your Computers "TDR" (Timeout Detection Recovery) Settings, so that your computer doesn't crash Substance Painter as much.

as someone who struggles with ADHD and is too stubborn to read manuals, you're a literal hero in my eyes. i thought it was just me and my pc/gpu that was the issue!
updated driers, re installed etc. and all i needed to do was export my models materials; a 3D character iv been working on for 6 months lol, so im sooo close to being done and having my 1st Portfolio entry! :D
I like that you were very clear on certain parts where people might have done something wrong. I definitely feel very out of my field when I'm looking at all these codes and commands that I have no clue what it does to my computer. Thank you for making such a concise tutorial. I don't know why some people are mad about the pace (they could have just put the video on 1.5x speed). You shouldn't be skimming through things that could potentially effect your computer in a negative ways.

I stumbled on this without needing to make this fix however this is, by far, the best tutorial I have ever experienced on RUclips. No steps were inferred but at no stage was the video talking down to the user either. Just an amazing setup and I wish more tutorials presented like this. Good job!

Your instructions were really calm and soothing. It is hard to find instructors who tell you not to worry when following videos like these for solutions. That said, substance painter worked well and I no longer got the TDR value warnings. Thank you very much.
Nice tutorial. I've messed with the registry on and off for many years. I'd never needed to change TdrDelay so did a search but was unable to find it. I found your tutorial. I had no TdrDelay and created it with your specs. This tutorial is so detailed my wife could do it. My wife technology challenged so that is saying a lot. It's nice to find a tutorial deeply detailed yet slow enough that anyone can follow. Thank you!

i have been trying run houdini for a year now but it constantly gave fatal error i didn't understand how and why but then on sideFX forum i found it will be solved through Fixing TDR values. Thanks to you now i can learn Houdini Peacefully

Very well explained. Thank You. One thing I would like to ask is that, is it really important to do all these steps. Can't we just click on continue anyway and get on with Substance Painter, would't other program like 3ds Max or Maya be affected while they are rendering using GPU? Because I don't remember if earlier versions of Substance Painter required any such Registry Changes. Please correct me if I am wrong.
Hey Ash :)! That is a very good question! The short answer is yep you could just click continue and keep using substance painter, but you run the risk of it possibly crashing more often. If you run into issues with it crashing, I would recommend trying adjusting your TDR settings like in the video :).
