Great upload; even though it is not the full fight: brilliant to see Buchanan's work in higher resolution. 👏👌 I did not realise Buchanan talked to his opponent so much in the ring. 😂He is my favourite fighter personally, and arguably the best British boxer of all time; certainly Scotland's.

One of British boxings greatest but a crying shame he got more recognition in the states, a true Scottish warrior in the ring and the most humble of men. RIP Ken Buchanan.

Well said, starofdavid! Ken was my hero when i was a teenager. Took him 3 years to get a titke fight after loss to duran - what does that tell you about other boxers views of him?

One belt I agree with but real fighters win titles at multiple weights. I think that's what you're trying to say.

@@bjorno2080 Easy to do when you are already rehydrating 15 pounds and beating up smaller men in lower divisions to statpad championships in multiple weight classes. Every decent fighter today is a 2-3 division champion. it means absolutely nothing no more. Duran was the first 4 division Champion, Hearns the first 5 division and it was achieved the hard way with only 1-2 Championships and same day weigh ins.

Both men showed loads of heart. Buchanan was 26 here; Laguna was 28 and retired after this fight. He was a 2-time lightweight champ and was never knocked out in his entire career.
Both fighters are criminally underrated: Laguna beat Carlos Ortiz and Mando Ramos to win his championships and fought the best men during his career, including a decision loss to the great Vicente Saldivar. Buchanan is, unfortunately, remembered mostly for his loss to Roberto Duran. But his courage shone through as he was coming on strong in round 13 when Duran, frustrated with his inability to finish Ken off, punched him in the nuts after the bell for the 13th.
Duran had the fight won and was well ahead on the cards, but Buchanan was pulling off one of his “championship round” rallies like he did in the 2 fights with Laguna. Unfortunately for him, he was in the ring with probably the greatest lightweight champion of all time that night.

Ken has now left us aged 77: undisputed world champ and all he received was an MBE, while Kelly Holmes is made a Dame, Andy Murray is knighted and the lightweight tennis player Raducanu is made a Member of the Order as a teenager.

    Bye, champ.

He had the welsh Eddie Thomas, who is from the valley close to me, and saved him by cutting his swollen eye. Buchanan wouldn't pay for him saying he took too much of the purse when he fought Duran. He was a great and forgotten corner man.

That must have been nice for Ken, their last fight in Puerto Rico was outdoors in 51 degrees heat. New York at night indoors! He got sunburn during their last fight. Buchanan was a legend, Roberto Duran said Buchanan was his toughest opponent. Think about that, look who Duran fought; Hagler, Hearns, Barkley, DeJesus, Cuevas, Pazienza, Leonard. That says a lot.

THe most fascinating character in this fioght IS THE REF. Watch how intently he is ready, at the first sign of a fighter - "throwing his arms on the shoulders on the other for a "quick rest" . One or two seconds of that- and he literally pecks at them AND WILL NOT IT LET IT BECOME A snooxze of a fight. OBVIOUSLY TAKES PRIDE IN FULFILLING HIS FDUTIES AS A PRO REF. Now I dare anyone to watch the duran fight, as Duran would charge Buchanan, throwing punches wildly, THEN DRAPING HIS ARMS OVER KB. This is CHEATING! KB is the consumate boxer and the DURAN plan was to "shut down that left jab" There are rumors that the Ref in the Duran Fight was "family" and never got another "big fight". Watch it for the 13 rounds AS THE REF FINALLY warns Duran, probabaly knowing the game plan for the end oif 13. You want to see evil? Watch Duran's face as he walks away after the low blow with the biggest ugliest smirk I have ever seen. THe Characters of the men. I guarantee you if Buchanan had thrown a low one HE WOULD HAVE BEEN CONCERNED ABOUT DURAN!~! I would bet heavily that KB would not have accepted the victory- Finally- KB would have INSISTED a quick Rematch.. You a Duran Fan?? WHY?? THe "Buchanan team's biggest regret ? Not asking for a drug test on that Panamanian JUMPING BEAN..

-Why did Laguna retire so young from boxing?
He retired from boxing out of disappointment after fighting (at Hiram Bithorn Stadium, Puerto Rico) against Scotsman Ken Buchanan. Laguna pass over Buckanan. Buckanan went to the hospital and Laguna to his hotel. The judges stole the world title from him; Puerto Ricans never forgave Laguna for defeating all their idols, such as Carlos Ortíz. That's how they took revenge, with that robbery "

After the trouble he had with Laguna, there's no wonder he took a pasting from Duran a year later (a fighter whose films he never bothered to view; bad mistake).
