And it really shouldn’t have been this hard, I mean ffs Star Wars isn’t even that complicated, there’s a literal light and dark side ffs, the light side is good, the dark side is bad. They certainly understood Star Wars when they copied episode 4 for episode 7, all they had to do was keep the characters and themes consistent with what came before. Make it a personal struggle about choosing good over evil, and don’t make Luke Skywalker a coward. Simple. Somewhere in the middle have some lightsaber fights and space battles.

Redoing the Sequels sounds like a dream come true, but I expect it will be nothing more than a chance for them to beat us with a different stick. The kind of resentment, jealousy, and even hate that is required to do the kind of damage that they already did to Lucas's world, so consistently, for so long, and at such a staggering financial cost that their executives are sweating blood, doesn't just disappear. It's a spirit of malice that will corrupt any original story that they attempt.

There aren't enough new fans to care and the old ones don't trust the brand enough and no longer care. Force awakens was an indication of all the goodwill the brand had, skeleton crew (which i can barely even remember the name of) is an indication of what the brand can manage on its own now, even with a good show. They aren't starting over from the sequel trilogy, they're starting over from the beginning and i'm not sure they can make anything good enough for that to be a success.

What’s worse is Rey actually had a very cool setup. Someone who was abandoned by her parents is a tragic story that could have been done right. Having her realize that they are never coming back for her and that she needs to movie on and be with her found family (she would actually have a connection to Luke and Leia to make it make sense instead of what we got) would be a powerful story of found family. Instead she barely knew Luke and Han and only knew Leia for abt a year so there wasn’t enough time to have her actually become close enough to join the family. And her learning stuff outta no where also hurt her character a lot. All they needed was a couple years between movies to have Luke and Leia train her but instead the story took place in abt a year. Not nearly enough time. Hell I wish there was another year or 2 for Luke to train in the ot but at least he had 3

You're trying to reset and create a new narrative direction for the next 10 to 15 years. And a recast would definitely be in order and those actors are at the age of the Star Wars characters they would portray during the Mandalorian period. The only one who should get a proper casting call is Luke Skywalker. But Billie Lourd, Alden Ehrenreich and Donald Glover as Leia, Han and Lando are set to go. And a movie like Courtship of Princess Leia for the restart of the EU would be the right start. It’s political thriller, romantic, action and space opera all rolled into one. And would be the perfect jumping off point for a new sequel trilogy to begin the next feature with Heir to the Empire. And it wouldn’t be a terrible idea to make Thrawn the overarching villain for the entire Galactic Cold War outline for the new sequel trilogy. Just a thought.

Yes, these characters need to be recast. Recasting is how such iconic characters live on through the generations; i.e. Spider-Man, Batman, James Bond.
But before we can seriously have the recasting discussion, we need to wipe all Disney canon and start over. Short of doing this, any serious attempt at rehabilitating the series is a nonstarter. I understand that this isn’t going to happen for the foreseeable future, and that’s a shame because the franchise has already lost a generation, and is losing more ground while they continue to try to put band-aids on bullet wounds.

I remember the end of the second season of the mandalorian, the while stilted due to technical limitations return of Luke Skywalker brought one thing to all the Star Wars fan base, Joy! The design, from the costume to the setup to the music, it set off all our nostalgia and memories of why we loved this franchise and Lucasfilm should have jumped to recast Luke, Leia and Han right then and there. They could have gotten three actors signed up to play these parts for the next decade and introduced them as bit parts in their planned shows, reintroducing them back into Star Wars before doing a show or film staring them. We had a Luke in the muddled book of Boba Fett who could have been played by an actor who could have carried the role forward, Leia and Han could have appeared as characters on Coruscant during Ashoka and the hype, the mainline drug of the Star Wars fan could have been ignited at the thought of a stand alone project with our original trilogy heroes once again flying and fighting amounts the stars.
But it’s Disney/Lucasfilm, and they are always late to the party, if they actually bother to turn up at all.

B) Bring Michael Arndt's original Episode 7 script (which was a direct adaptation of George Lucas' Episode 7 story treatments) out of the Lucasfilm vault, and take it from there. Michael Arndt was the only person who worked with George Lucas directly on the Episode 7 story treatments before Lucas decided to sell Lucasfilm to Disney, and after then, they fired Arndt and locked the script away, but I am sure it is still there, waiting to be adapted. There is no love, passion or understanding of what made Star Wars great anywhere in the halls of Disney. The only reason the first two sequal movies did anything close to good is because people gave Disney a chance. They burned up all that good will over the years to satisfy an array of agendas that just go against the nature of Star Wars.
Only a purge of the people who caused this, the repudiation of their work, and potentially the sale of the franchise can save it. There can be no redemption without them at least taking responsibility for this travesty. I know, at least for me, that is what it will take before I spend another dime on anything Disney or Lucas Firm produces, be it Star Wars or otherwise. If the franchise or the company as they exist have to die for that to be accomplished, then so be it. We don't owe Disney Star Wars a thing.

While Disney’s focus on profit seems evident during times of underperformance, like with Star Wars, it’s worth noting that Disney owns multiple successful studios. Easy.
Just do what the Clone Wars did. Get voice actors that sound as close as possible to the original cast and let them be the future of Star Wars. Despite the Clone Wars show being over, other shows are still using its style like in Tales of the Jedi. I don't see any reason why they wouldn't use it again.
All that would need to be done is scrap the sequel trilogy along with any and all mandoverse content, WHOLE CLEAN SLATE. Start fresh with everything and I mean EVERYTHING post Return of the Jedi and do a proper adaptation of the Thrawn trilogy, The Uuzang Vong, The 2nd Galactic Civil War. The fan interest is in those books. Thats where the money is. Of course its an adaptation, it won't be a one to one, you'll still have to address Ahsoka and Ezra Miller from Rebels. But this time, you have the main focus on the original trilogy cast and let them be the main push for the story. This is the best way narrative wise that could get fans back on board.

Just look at Visions for how much potential there exists in this universe, and we'll never get to see it if we keep obsession over a handful of characters. Abrams, and Dave Filoni, destroying any story whatsoever that could’ve been had. I can’t imagine Harrison Ford, or Mark Hamill coming back after what’s gone on. • @eds1942
    @eds1942 11 дней назад +2

The AI vs Recast issue is up to the actors or their surviving family.
    - Harrison seems fine with the de-aging effects.
    - Mark has stated near the beginning of that strike (which was over ai writing and digital actor overlays), that he would not be reprising his Luke in live action, that instead they should recast with a new younger actor and pay them like they would any other star.
    - Not sure about Carrie’s daughter…
With the Rebooting of the Sequels or moving the series into the far future?
1 - there isn’t much need for a reboot. Star Wars has had a tiered canon system with an alternate universe and non-canon going to back to the pre-EU era until 2015.
    - Just bring that system back and add the new canon to it as alternate universe. Lucas’ 6 movies as top tier canon.
    - The TV shows and new movies in the next lower tier.
    - Make Filoni’s Mando-verse ambiguous as to where it fits in, to avoid the sequel canon / Old EU drama.
    - Divide everything else into (everything developed outside of LucasFilm, like books, comics, games) into two eras; make all of the pre-prequel era stories (canon and Legends EU) in-canon legend rather than outright canon or not-canon.
I mean, 25,000+ years of history that is barely touched and can be easily worked around. And if they want to adapt one of the old stories with some changes, it would be just another version of an old legend. With the canon explanation being that since most of the stories center around Jedi vs Sith conflicts, and Palpatine altered or destroyed that from the official historical archives, tales, legends and local record is all that they had to based the stories on. And that way, they would have actual (and somewhat consistent) to build off of, instead of cherry picking the few things they’d like and altering it (Ki-Adi-Mundi’s age?)
    - Then with the post Original Trilogy era being alternate universe. With the old EU being in one, the new canon belonging to another, and Filoni’s stuff being uncommitted to either.
    - Then all the source books, gaming elements, pre-EU stuff, and promotional materials being a tier below that.
    - Then the non-canon bin.
2 - “A Long, Long Time Ago…”. Presumably, Lucas’ idea was that we have these stories “…From a Galaxy Far, Far Away.” thanks to the data cores of either R2-D2 or C-3PO which traveled a very long time from a distant galaxy. So, setting any new stories too far into the future from the Original Trilogy, just doesn’t seem right. Not to mention that writers will be too tempted to fall back to the same old Jedi vs Sith formula, which is what the Skywalkers put an end to.

First hire creative and competent screenwriters to actuallty come up with a good story involving them. Then pick the right tools to get the job done. The only thing that would frustrate me with redoing the sequels is that theyd probably get rid of the force awakens too, which i thought (although largely a retread of a new hope) was a very solid foundation for the new trilogy because of the potential each character in the new cast had. So many cool and unique avenues they couldve went down with each character arc, none of which were actually done justice in episodes 8 and 9

The best decision for them to make would be to either A) Adapt the Lucas story treatments to an animated series in the style of The Clone Wars, or, if they were ambitious, to created a live action version with recasts. I think it can be done, in the style of 'The Snyder Cut' promotion, but to be honest, Lucasfilm under Kennedy is too stubborn/proud.

The next question would be, would the 75% in favor go out and see the film multiple times like they did TFA. Chances are the answer is no, thus reducing profit margins even more. I'm not saying a retcon of the sequels wouldn't turn a profit, they very well could. I'm saying it wouldn't be as big of a hit as TFA or even TLJ/RoS.
