    I love my bluebirds especially when a few of them start dive bombing the stupid squirrels. It's so funny .

    I saw a video on RUclips where somebody actually use a slinky underneath their birdhouse and it was amazing when the squirrel climbed up the pole to reach the birdhouse as soon as his weight hits the slinky he fell down the pole on the spring. I thought that was a great idea and I think I'll try it myself combined with the stovepipe idea. Thank you for this valuable information

      My sister has successfully used Slinkys for 10+ years to keep squirrels off her feeders and I recent read in a blog that they can help repel racoons too. Going to try this!

    To prevent snakes, you must use a 8”x60” stove pipe predator guard, that wobbles on post

    Birdbaths are an essential water source, that will attract birds to your habitat, please keep them clean.
    You will enjoy watching them bathe, sometimes there's a bath party, so cute.

    Enjoyed your upclose info demo for bluebirds. Im doing what I can to eliminate sparrows. I dont have a large yard but the box will be in as open an area as I have and hope for the best. I have also decided to put a skylight which may keep house sparrows out.

      Do you have eviction methods?

    • @sting1111
      @sting1111 3 года назад

      @@DARWINZOO Yes. It is a multi-pronged approach. Trapping both with sparrowtraps.net repeating trap and the van Ert nest box trap. I also fervently believe in using the fishing line technique around your nest box. There are RUclips videos about each of these measures. There has been and interesting development on the farm however. A colony of cliff swallows has been building mud nests on the barn. At first I thought it was great! However the house sparrows really enjoy the the mud nests and that is why I am having an unusual problem this year.

    • @DARWINZOO

      @@sting1111 yes I watched several excellent videos. They were quite ahem..opaque on certain solutions ( not the ones I was referring to lol) having said that coy comment I understand the import of being sure your invasive predator species actually be Trapped not just deterred. I was really interested in the fishing line explanation and tutorial. On So Many Levels!!! (Now of course I'll fall down the bunny rabbit hole of "what's the optimum mathematical..?" But yes I know just learn from other's knowledge.
      Now. Seriously? The mud nests? This opens an entirely new door for me. I must Know! Thank you greatly for your advice.

    Nice video but the access hole seems too large for bluebirds. I've been building bluebird boxes for years and the access hole is 1 1/2". I also always affix a predator block over the access hole.

    What if a house wren or a house sparrow takes over a nest? Can you take out the nest and will a bluebird come back to it?

    • @amazinggrace5503
      @amazinggrace5503 3 года назад

      Its hard to tell ,but if it still has the right sized hole ,you clean it out and provide meal worms its possible that some bluebirds will check in .

    • @JerryOtteman
      @JerryOtteman 3 года назад +3

      Yes you may and are encouraged to remove house sparrow nests. The best way to deal with house sparrows is to trap and eliminate them, and to use sparrow spookers. House wrens are a different story as they are a native bird and therefore protected. However, you may remove the dummy nests that house wrens make. Bluebirds will eventually return if they've been to your property and/or used that box before, as long as you clean it out.

      Yes , clean the box out and if bluebirds were there before they will probably come back if its empty.
      If you see unwanted guests trying to take up residence just leave the box open until they leave .My bluebirds show up in December to nest ect .
      So just be ready for whenever yours return. If you supply meal worms and fresh water they will stay.
