    Night Beds began as the musical outlet for singer-songwriter Winston Yellen. His debut album, “Country Sleep,” was positively received by critics, lauded for its “tortured take on alt country and Yellen’s soaring vocals.” A year of touring on the record, experimentation with drugs, and a night in Nashville hearing Yeezus led to a significant change. “All the emotions that I had kept inside came flooding out,” says Yellen. “Being a white nerdy kid from Colorado Springs, I was attracted to that sound. I was tired of being a sad sack like Elliott Smith or Ryan Adams. I wanted to be physical. I wanted to make music that was physical.” The experience led Yellen to recruit 25+ musicians for the creation of “Ivywild.”
    The 2015 release is a dreary, confessional, and introspective R&B record that details some of Yellen’s darkest times. The songs are decidedly different than what Yellen has been previously known for, and he credits its allure to his younger brother, Abe. He values his sibling’s contribution so highly that Abe’s credit for the release actually appears above his own. The duo has a clear, strong connection, with Abe as the driving musical force.

    Night Beds absolutely destroyed it. Ever since the release of their new album Ivywild I've been dying to hear them live and I was certainly not disappointed. If this is what their Country Sleep sound died for then I am 100% okay with it. Epic performance, come on down to California sometime.

      +Paul Walt I think he's done with / nearly has broken up the band. I read it in the NPR review of Ivywild

    Did they quit after this album because it's too difficult to make a living from music even as incredibly handsome, talented brothers?

    • @morthgog
      @morthgog 3 года назад +2

      I really don’t know. When Ivywild came out it was panned by a lot of reviewers and I feel like it definitely took the wind out of their sails. I think we’re going to look at these guys like Van Gogh: way ahead of their time and so unbelievably talented but sadly overlooked until it was too late.
      Also very handsome.

      +ThinAir11 I would not say painful, buy yeah I might see what´s your point , they gave us "Country Sleep" and then this (Which I happen to enjoy the same as Country Sleep). So, the way I see it "different" is the word to define "Ylviwild" I think we all were expecting some extension of the previous album or something related to " Every fire, every joy" but when the Yellen brothers came with this somehow we felt "disappointed" But, I think we have to appreciate more than is to see, the album is great and full of a weirdness unique in every note and in Winston´s voice. But, every opinion is valuable.

      Funny how subjective music can be. I like a couple tracks off of Country Sleep but as a whole, not that into it. But this album has been on repeat for me since it came out, and I think this performance was so unique and in-its-element. I can really see and hear really an artistic voice coming into focus with these guys. Love it
