Stephen Colbert took over as host of The Late Show on Tuesday, Sept. 8, 2015. Colbert is best known for his work as a television host, writer, actor, and producer, and best known for his charity work teaching English as a second language on Tunisian date farms. Prior to joining the CBS family -- and being officially adopted by network president Les Moonves -- Colbert helmed “The Colbert Report,” which aired nearly 1,500 episodes and required Stephen to wear nearly 1,500 different neckties. The program received two Peabody Awards, two Grammy Awards, and several unwelcome shoulder massages. It won two Emmys for Outstanding Variety Series in 2013 and 2014, both of which appear to have been lost in the move. Colbert is pronounced koʊlˈbɛər, according to Wikipedia. His understudy is William Cavanaugh, who will be hosting The Late Show approximately one third of the time. Good luck, Bill!"

+msminmichigan I don't know how anyone expected Stephen to beat Fallon tbh... Fallon caters to the simple-minded... there are a lot of people who don't like entertainment with substance, but just want to giggle at sketches with celebrities. Cheap, but effective.
+Eirion I find it hard to believe that CBS would expect anything other than what has happened. The ratings/comedy dynamic is the same as it was when it was Leno on NBC and Letterman on CBS: The more cerebral comedian routinely gets the lower ratings. Like Letterman, a lot of Colbert's choices for the show illustrate that he doesn't mind alienating some people. CBS knew what they were getting into and deliberately chose someone who would carry on the basic spirit of Letterman's Late Show, which was always mostly about what Dave personally thought was funny/entertaining, rather than populist tastes.
WaitingtoHit Exactly, I agree. I see a lot of comments, people who are raving on and on about the fact that the show's ratings are below the Tonight Show's, and 'tanking' and what not - they should relax and let it go. Everyone has a different opinion on what a late night show should be... Personally, I'm really enjoying what this show's bringing to the table.
