BBMF Mark Discombe PDA and Mark “Shlongy” Long | chat at fence. RAF CONINGSBY | SPIT and HURRICANE

- On the 10th June 2021, the Spitfire Mk.XVI flown by PDA MARK DISCOMBE and new to the BBMF, an experienced Typhoon pilot Mark “Schlongy” Long who just flew the Hurricane, come to the fence for a chat. This is a really interesting chat and very informative too.
Listen how the Spitfire is an easier plane to fly than the Hurricane and how the BBMF use a new pilot for the first half of the display season. Mark Discombe explains to us how why the Spitfire is an easier plane to fly than the Hurricane. The hurricane is a little more uncomfortable too because the radiator is under the cockpit, unlike the Spitfire, where the radiator is located under the wings.
This was the first time Schlongy formatted on a Spitfire and Ted was there to witness this, which is featured on Ted’s other videos. Also you’ll find out why Discombe is wearing a black pilot suit too.
The home of the BATTLE OF BRITAIN MEMORIAL FLIGHT (BBMF) is at RAF CONINGSBY. There you will be able to visit the museum there with a cool gift shop too. But that’s not all. You’ll be able to get a guided tour onto the active base and in the BBMF hanger. The BBMF have a number of Spitfires, Hurricanes, a Dakota and of course, the 1 of 2 airworthy Lancasters in the world. The other is somewhere in Canada. Also in the hanger are the original armament and canons along with the lads that service these iconic planes. It is worth every penny to visit but try not to be distracted by the sound of freedom by the Typhoons.
Sadly the battery died towards the end where Schlongy recognised Ted and have a wee chat about getting him a flight in the Lancaster. They can’t promise anything but Ted would be honoured to continue his flying career with the RAF, and especially a flight with the BBMF. Ted is happy to fly in any of your beautiful iconic aircraft so please BBMF, contact us.

What a backdrop! Hurricane? I believe. Recognised instantly! Ted. See.. the shape of things too come. What a couple of complete grnts for taking some time to talk too fans. Big love too them. Awww I remember this day. This was exactly as you said about the things to come. We had no idea our channel would turn out the way it has. Mark Long is awesome and I believe “Disco” left sadly.

Fantastic video mark long for me is the best typhoon display pilot of all time ✈ Ted and nikos but all the displays have been very different
Thanks Andrew. This is the only time I met/seen Sqn Ldr Mark Long. Only found out he is Sqn Ldr the other day on the radio 📻 Only Typhoon display I’ve ever seen is Sainty and Paddy.
