My dad, had it before he passed away. I’ve kept it as a sentimental value and driven it and now i understand why he loved it. I’ve added car led strip lights to it and more items such as welcome light strips for door, led car logo cup holder, and more to follow. I’m reliving dads dreams !
I am on my 4th one, I could afford a car up to 20X the price but there's just something about these that I love. Even though it's a 11-15 year old car, it still looks better than most cars coming off the production line today and there's not many of them on the road. I hate driving cars that lots of other people have. Mine's de-badged, and it's a real head-turner.
Hey man! Considering you've gone through so many of these, I thought you'd be the right person for me to ask some questions about it. I'm looking to buy my first car and this model caught my eye. We're on the same page when it comes to common cars - everyone in my country drives vw golfs and old bmw's, and all the appeal those cars could have had is now gone because of how often I see them. Would you say it's a good beginner's car? I'd also love if I didn't have to sink too much money in it, so it's great if it's reliable. Does it tend to break down often? And are the parts expensive?
@@ERatiu Hi, it's my car in the video and it's the first car I've bought myself (first 2 cars were hand-me-downs from family). It's absolutely brilliant as a first car, It's cheap enough on insurance (£900 a year for me, at 22 with only 3 years NCD). The Tax is expensive, £250 a year or something similar on this SIII 2.0 litre model. They are very reliable, the engine's have been described as 'bulletproof' many times before. However, there are two common issues that will pop-up regularly: 1. Handbrake. All model of Coupé old and new are renowned for handbrake efficiency issues and mine recently failed an MOT on it. But this is a cheap and easy fix. 2. Depending on the age, rust. Not much you can do about it, occaisionally they need a bit of welding, but it's mainly a visual/chassis structure thing. These cars have SO much character it's unbelievable and that's why after seeing Justin's Coupé SE I had to buy the Sii for myself. They're amazing to drive, comfortable, fast enough (although probably the slowest coupe on the market) and generally beautiful. Besides the niggles I've already mentioned, the main complaint from me are fuel usage, although it's to be expected in a 'sportscar' as mine does about 35 mpg on the motorway and probably 25-30 when urban driving. I would highly recommend you buy one as your first car and if you do make sure you join the Hyundai Coupe Owners Club on Facebook, Justin introduced me to this page when I bought this and there's so many knowledgeable people that have been around these cars for decades and know everything there is to know. Enjoy :) P.S Don't expect to carry more than one passenger regularly if they're taller than about 5 feet. The back seats are racing style bucket seats and not really meant to be used, there is no leg room or headroom. Children would be fine though.
@@FierySn0w Hey, thanks for the info! I actually just bought the car a few days ago and I'm really pleased with it. It does have some problems, such as the ABS and ESP not working, quite a few chips in the paint, sunroof not opening, cracked leather seats and steering wheel, plus a few modification that the previous owner made that are illegal (installed LED headlights and the tyres are too narrow), but I love fixing stuff and I'll probably have a go at everything besides the ABS and ESP thing. I bought it just before a trip with some friends, 2 of which had to stay in the back. Needles to say, they weren't pleased, but I'm glad those seats exist anyway. The tax is decent in my country, I only have to pay around 30 pounds a year, but I'm worried about the insurance. I haven't registered it in my name yet, but because I'm a beginner and it's quite a large engine, I'll probably have to pay around 260 pounds for the first year (way less than you, but quite a sum for my 4th world country). I want to upholster the seats again (at least the front ones), but I didn't feel like paying for someone else to do it, so I just bought a bunch of leather and I'll start teaching myself how to sew. I'll probably start with the wheel however, it's the least risky place to start with. I'll join that facebook group too, I'm getting tired of having to complete two capchas each time I want to look up something on hyundaicoupeclub.co.uk
Such great cars. Cheap and cheerful. Not the fastest but they are in my opinion one of the best looking cars out there. I’ve had everything from a v6 auto to a tsiii. I’m on my 5th. Love them and surprisingly practical
Underrated it is. I put the Hyundai coupe or Tiburon in the same category as a Honda civic, integra, rsx, miata, frs/gt86, etc. It also looks very good.
You're welcome! It's still in my opinion one of the best "bang for buck" cars you can get out there as long as you find a clean example without too much corrosion 🙂
I purchased my 2003 GT V6 5 speed brand new from the Hyundai dealer. For 18 years it's been my only fun good looking dependable car, a few minor repairs and it continues to get a little louder and go a little faster, yes it sure seems like it!
Used to have one of these back in 2003. Probably the best bang for your buck car I ever had. Surprisingly sporty and nippy with good road holding. Interior was basic but for the price they used to go for a snip.
I’ve got a red, 2008 2 litre now done 106k mls. Most reliable car I’ve ever owned! Well made. Head turner. In the USA I saw a Genesis version I’m sure it had 3.6litre badge on the back. That would have been perfect!
I've had my 2007 SIII 6 years now and I love it, been struggling for the last 2 years trying to figure out what to get next, the coupe has everything I want in the way of spec without being OTT, I don't want lane assist and stop start etc. but my golden rule with cars is they must not have a hard plastic dashboard. My usual approach to getting the most value out of car buying is to buy cars for 3k run for 5 years and sell for 1k but it's getting really difficult now with all that extra technology to go wrong and cost you, the coupe got the balance of being fully loaded without being OTT just right combined with the killer looks.
I was given a Hyundai siiii as a gift last year. It wasn’t taxed and no mot but passed its mot last year and just passed this years mot. I’ve drove from Cleveland to Plymouth twice last year and the car just keeps on going.
I've both the siii 2007 and I'm definitely impressed how cheep and efficient it is. I used to own EP3 honda civic type r and I love both. Sure the vtech is different story but a part from that, I'm in love of my Hyundai
I have driven alot of cars & this car handles the best out of all the sporty economy cars with stock suspension... Not including the awd cars. I currently own the '06. 👍😎
I have a 97 . I took it off my Sisters hands 11 years ago and have made it my daily local driver. Only 200 000 k miles. 5 speed in green. Don't see any on the road which i love . Always wanted the 08
I’m one my second one &’ I’m sure it won’t be my last. The best thing I ever did was start buying these cars they’re rare gems. Not too much but not too little just enough. We need to have a Hyundai meet
They certainly are! There is a Hyundia coupe owners club (HCOC) and they often have a stand at Mod Nats where owners can show their cars. When the lockdown is over I have plans to organise a meet and anyone will be welcome so keep an eye out for that too!
Have just bought my first Siii , had many mx5's but wanted something a little more practical whilst still being fun to drive and good to look at. 2.0 is plenty fast enough and surprised how well it grips the corners. Plan to jack her up and get some underseal on her to protect from rust. Was a little concerned with build quality from a company that also makes AA batteries, but they are really well spec'ed cars and feel 'solid'
They do handle very well, I was very surprised the first time I drove one! I underseal the bottom of mine, a definite must for the longevity of these cars. Glad you're enjoying it!
I just bought me one for a toy to build a little, but still drive it every day to work. Even though it's got decent speed, it also gets pretty good gas mileage. I got a 2003. I like the side scoops on the fenders better on the 03, but I like the headlights on the previous model the best out of all of them. I cannot wait until I get a supercharger for it. I'm going buy a used motor and put some good pistons, a cam, and build it up pretty good and when it's ready, put it in. That way I can still drive it back and forth to work while I'm doing most of the engine work. Every one that I see with a supercharger on seems quick as heck. I want it as bad as It can be without making it unreliable for a daily driver. Mine is the black GT with a 6-speed and it's a blast to drive. I also want to put a short shifter and a more aggressive clutch in it, too. I'm always hitting hitting 3rd when I'm going to 5th. It's a hard car to drive slow. LOL!
Rust for sure is the biggest issue, apart from that, sticky brake slider pins and a generally weak handbrake. Otherwise they're pretty good. Clutch slave cylinders tend to go after a while but a cheap easy fix
I've owned a 2007 2.0 siii coupe for 3 1/2 years and apart from a cam belt change its had no major repairs . Mines got an auto box and leaves alot of other far more expensive cars standing when you floor it and the twin cam kicks in.

My first car was coupe 2007 1.6.. Now after 3 cars I want him back. Selling my bmw then Im gonna buy it again.. Anybody with coupe and 1 kid? Is it practical? I think boot space is more then enough.
Boot space is good, should be okay in the back whilst they're small, only adults tend to struggle for headroom in the back of the car, although it may be difficult to get a baby seat in and out.
Just look out for rust, a recent clutch would be an advantage, and the clutch slave cylinders normally fail after around 12/13 years but its a cheap easy fix, apart from that no horror stories, engines are pretty bulletproof. Hope you find a nice one!
