Thanks Yarrow, you are a wonderful teacher. I burned fir trees for 30 years to keep warm but never used it as medicine. Now I live in Alberta but for 50 years I lived in the interior rain forest of BC where coniferous trees were in abundance. My dad was a logger and owned his own small mill and we lived in the forest in the summer while he harvested logs. I miss the smell of the forest and am thankful for the two spruce trees in my neighbours yard here in Alberta. I feel alive when I go home to BC, fresh water, fresh air and beautiful forests

I live in Colorado. Our eco systems are incredibly vast and varied. High alpine to prairie grassland, canyons and even high desert, so our evergreens are equally varied.
    Pine - pointy
    Fur - flat
    Spruce - square
NOW I will always know the difference!!! 🙏🏻

Oh how I LOVE your passion for the forest and all that it offers. God Bless and keep sharing your beautiful gifts.
Pointy, or flat, the fir, the pine, the spruce and the hemlock are all delicious and make great food and and as you noted, they are so healing. I daily dine on them. Sadly, here in Massachusetts the ticks are so abundant that forest bathing is a rather frightening activity. I have had 4 ticks embedded in me and I take all the precautions.

I love to keep a pitcher of water in the fridge with the added spruce or fir tips. As I drink I replenish the water. A hot tea is also nice. I like to make a vinegar with pine needles and use that for salad dressings. Thank you for this video. I’m excited for part 2.

Excellent tips! Thank you so much!
I live on the west side of the Rockies in BC and there's fir everywhere here. Most of my life I lived on the east side of the Rockies in AB but below the Porcupine foothills ... they call it Chinook country. Beautiful and diverse but I like it here better because it's about 5 degrees warmer and no WIND compared to there.
My cousin lives down the road and we've been exploring natural medicine for inflammation -- she has Rheumatoid arthritis. We also understand that all disease stems from inflammation . . . is this true?

Right on, I have gathered just enough spruce tips to add to my teas to get me by until next spruce tip season. Great information on the Fir. I’ve only been gathering spruce tips the last 2 seasons and with this being my 3rd I can say it is happening fast this year. Tips are gaining size very quickly. Thank you for sharing!

Ideally, a whole lifestyle approach where you reduce acidic and inflammatory foods, including coffee, and red meats.
Add in Omega essential oils, lots of antioxidants, and circulation, supported herbs, like ginger.
Other herbs that are helpful or turmeric, Devils, claw, Willow bark, boswellia, cats claw, and nettles.

Fir Tips are an easy one to harvest as there are lots of them around in the types of ecosystems they grow. Also Spruce tips can be used similarly.
Plus they are a good example of an easy sustainable harvest as you are only trimming this years growth, rather than harvesting the whole plant like is needed with some healing herbs.
Look to the edges of the forest where you can reach the branches of the fir tree easily.
