How Canada, Australia, New Zealand, & The UK Are Secretly Forming One Global Superpower: CANZUK

  • This is the country of Cambodia. It is a small to mid-sized country with a population of just over 15 million people, and is located in the southern portion of the Indochina peninsula in Southeast Asia.
During most of the 20th century, Cambodia was an extremely poor, and relatively weak country in regards to its economy, and military. In fact, in 1998, after 3 consecutives years of economic contraction, the country had a GDP per capita of just $269...making it one of the poorest countries on the planet.
You see, Cambodia was a poor and somewhat small country, which gave it no sway on the global stage in regards to trade, politics, military and economics.
So that was why, the country decided to try something different. In 1961, the association of southeast asian nations, or simply, ASEAN...was created by Thailand, the Philippines, and Malaysia.
Essentially this was a union created to help accelerate economic growth, social progress, and cultural development in the region, while also helping promote regional peace, and to also give these smaller nations a much larger say on the global stage.
Now it was also formed out of a fear of growing communist regimes in nearby countries such as China, but i will leave that for another video.
In a sense, this new southeast asian union allowed for small and poor countries, to gain political and economic independence from nearby superpowers. And over the next several decades, other southeast asian nations would join such as Indonesia, Singapore, Brunei, Laos, Myanmar, Thailand, and vietnam.
And all along the way, this new union strengthened the economies of each one of these nations, while also proving to be a somewhat unified political entity, as they showed a unified response to many political threats and wars over the last 60 years.
So that is why in 1999, Cambodia decided to join this new political union. And since then, Cambodia has seen its economy move from a level of extreme poverty, to that of a developing nation, albeit still a relatively poor and small nation on its own.
However, the ASEAN union has seen its economic influence grow over the past decade. In fact, this union now has between the 5th and 7th largest amount of economic influence in the entire world...depending on what metric you use.
And if that is what a collection of somewhat poor southeast asian nations could do...imagine what would happen if 4 very wealthy nations were to form a new union of their own. A union that would act in a similar way... with unified global plans for their militaries, economies, politics, trade, and even citizenship.
Right now we could be seeing the creation of a global force right before our very eyes.
In the early 1800’s, New Zealand was a largely unpopulated island with the exception of the Maori Natives.
Australia had just a few thousand British settlers...40% of which were prisoners.
And Canada was filled with a few hundred thousand British and French loyalists that simply did not want to live in America after the revolutionary war.
But then, these 3 young nations would begin to go through a massive change. Within the following decades, they slowly began to become more populated, wealthy, and would eventually become part of the commonwealth of countries under the british empire.
Now, these 3 nations at the time were not viewed as the most valuable possessions of the british empire.
India for example, had over 200 million people within its borders, and was one of the largest economies in the world while it was being ruled by the british. This lead to india being named ‘the jewel of the crown’.
There were also some other nations that were in a more valuable geographical location for the british. Egypt, along with parts of China and indonesia, were viewed as more valuable colonies of the british empire at the time due to their proximity to trade routes, and trade partners.
But over the next 100 years, the british empire would begin to fall, as virtually every country that was previously under british rule, would soon declare their own independence, and move away from the enforced british culture.
Except for a few. You see, even after declaring independence from Britain, many of these nations kept their british traditions, and even made their own political association called the commonwealth of nations.

When foreign dangers arise, we always cover each others backs. Please remember, America shares the fact that we are all descendants of our historical mother country,

I would say one thing that the video forgets is that a lot of trade nowadays is not physical (think software and financial services) which doesn't require ships. In that sense, it doesn't matter for a company in England if the company it's working with is in France or Australia. Actually it would be easier with an Australian company as they would share a language, legal setup etc.

I just want to add this, because I can already see why this idea of CANZUCK has emerged (spoilers: it's because the UK has fucked up with Brexit and now wants to fool its former colonies to become de facto colonies again). So as a colonial subject I want to warn my fellow colonial subjects not to fall for this bullshit and here goes, here's my best attempt.
Listen guys, I'm an Australian and I totally understand all of the reasons and feelings why we in CANZUK want CANZUK to happen. But all of the good arguments for why we should and why we can are just fairytales. Distance matters, even with the sea. When WW2 happened, the most politically cataclysmic decisions the UK/Aus made was to part ways: to realise that our strategic interests simply aren't the same. This is why Australia chose the United States, for all the mixed benefits that has meant.
Now, as the video mentions, the UK and Canada are onboard, because they will reap the lion's share of this fairweather friendship: trade and commodities flowing across the Atlantic and to the centre of global banking outside of New York (the City of London). This deal looks GREAT to the UK and even to Canada, which at the very least is still in the same ocean as the UK.
But if war were ever declared, much like in Futurama when "war were declared", the signature on the dotted line will be Australia's and New Zealand's. And the UK and Canada will find all of the reasons - understandably, but inescapably - to look after their own and do what they did for Australia and NZ in WW2, which is fucking nothing. It wasn't their fault: it was just that distance matters.
Distance matters. The assumption behind CANZUK is that the global order underpinned by US hegemony will hold. That sea travel will be protected by the richest and most powerful navy in the history of the world. Up to WW2 that was the UK. From WW2 and until now that is the US. It still is the US today, but we have no good reason to believe that the US will maintain its naval dominance over CHina over the long term. We can only dream about CANZUK by forgetting that the US holds that dream together.
And let me be clear: I'm not a great fan of the US either. But I'm talking here to my fellow Australians and also my NZ brethren and even to some extent to the Canucks: CANZUCK is a deal that primarily benefits the UK, the country whose greatest export is 'financial services' (which is to say 'moving money around, without actually doing anything to earn that money'). CANSUCK is the dream the UK is dreaming now that they're running out of options, and it's not in anyone else's interests but the UK's to dream that dream any longer. There's nothing wrong with keeping close diplomatic ties, but the fact is that the UK has made the CATASTROPHIC mistake of leaving the EU and is now desperately trying to fool other nations to prop up its short-term idiocy by provding the UK with the basic commodities and REAL THINGS that it doesn't itself make anymore. And that idea looks mighty tempting to commodity exporters like Australia and Canada (we who export raw materials but also don't make Real Things half as much as we should) and to economies like NZ that struggle to offer much to the world anyway (not their fault at all, as a small island nation with no great resource wealth). But let's be honest here: this is the UK fucking up and then trying to convince the rest of us that their fuck-up is our opportunity. But if the tables ever turned and we needed them...they'll abandon us just like Churchill abandoned Curtin.
Don't buy the lies. It's tempting to buy them, because the alternative is that we're a very small fish in a very big and scary pond. But if we don't accept that fact, we're going to be abandoned by the UK the very moment we need them to return the favour - when and if US hegemony crumbles and we become very very alone in the Pacific. We have to face facts: distance matters, and it's only the long historical luck of Britannia (and then America) owning the seas that makes this madness seem reasonable.

I feel like more trade coming out of places like Brisbane would be really beneficial to our economy, not even mentioning how it would help us move away from Chinese influence. I mean 66% of all our trade goes to China, we can’t rely on them so much, so this deal would be really beneficial for both trade opportunities and opportunities to seperate ourselves from China. The added benefit of easier travel and immigration also opens up many doors for jobs and education.

      2. competition: Canada and Australia are both natural resource exporter, Australia and UK both export education. Canada won’t be moving their manufacturing cuz Mexico labour is so much cheaper, just like South East Asian countries and China to Australia
      3. Political opinions: Australians are too busy fighting against China, British are tied up in Brexit and sure, that definitely proves UK will stay in an organization. Canadians are too liberal to lower themselves to the level of the other two power, and NZ probably worry getting “annexed” by their neighbour.

@James Brennan : Exactly My Brother. Why should they? The Republic has made great strides in recent decades and you have a great country and culture as well. Plus, Northern Ireland is geographically, PART, of Ireland anyway, being a damn, island and all. Correct? Also, anyone who knows the history of Britain and Ireland knows full, damn, well, WHY, Northern Ireland exist in the first place. Had Britain not been trying to take over the whole, damn, world a few hundred years ago, Ireland would be a Unified Island today. Plus, you would still, have many of your Old and Ancient Families/Clans that were either killed or forced out of Ireland because of the fact of Britain trying to take it over. I myself, may be descended from such people. My ancestry is either Irish or Welsh, I have yet, to be able to pin it down.
Anyway, it seems to make a hell of a lot more sense to me, for Northern Ireland to try ever so hard, to get past your past differences and reunite with the Republic again, and become ONE, UNIFIED, CULTURE AND PEOPLE, AGAIN! With that, a 500 plus year wrong, will have FINELY, been RIGHTED. Correct? Unless the North chooses to be its OWN, State or Country or what have you, but wouldn't it be just as well to reunite with the rest of Ireland again, and be the Ancient, Unified, Land you always were? Correct?
Warmest Wishes from Canada. Best of 2021. Be Well. Be Safe. Out.

    • @ivanj.conway9919
      @ivanj.conway9919 3 года назад +1

@James Brennan : You know James, nobody can deny that Ireland has had a pretty damn, rough, time of it over the past few hundred years. So much sadness and so much misery. Which is why it's all the more inspiring to see what you have made of yourselves today. The Republic, as far as I know, is a beautiful, thriving, lovely, place today. You have a growing economy. Gorgeous landscape as always. A great, multicultural mix today. A wonderful, stable, progressive, society. You are reclaiming your/our - if you don't mind me saying - heritage through your language and songs and folklore and such. All that was attempted to have been ripped from you in the past, and coming out of all these "hardships" and "troubles" better than you've ever been before. To that extent, you really need to give yourselves a good pat on the back.
I understand that modern day Brits have nothing to do with the horrors and atrocities of the past, but where I get rather annoyed and royally, miffed sometimes, is when they play willful dumbness. It's like when all the "troubles" were going on throughout the 80s and people in Britain could not, or refused to understand what all the fuss was about. To me, that was willful blindness and stupidity on their part. And to make out the the Irish were like a bunch of backward savages because of the things going on in Ireland at the time, was arrogance beyond belief. They should have known, and surely, must have known, that non of that would have ever, happened in the first place if Ireland had not become a divided land because of THEM! Correct?
Well anyway, several hundred years of history can't be undone now, and those who have lived in North Ireland for a good many generations now, can't very well, be pushed out now, as that would make those doing that no better than their ancestors that took over the land several hundred years before. Now, in their own way, they are as Irish as those in the Republic, even if, some wish to remain loyal to Britain.
The trick now, My Brother, is helping them to see how they would benefit more, by unifying with the Republic rather than remaining loyal to Britain, which seems utterly, determined to break from the European Union, anyway. Being several generations Canadian now, there is much I don't understand about this, but did Britain HONESTLY, do so bad by being a part of the European Union as some claim? And would Northern Ireland benefit MORE, if they stick with Britain and break with the European Union as well, or finely, join with the Republic again, and REMAIN, part of the European Union, as well?! This could end up being one of the best times yet, in recent history, to regain what should never have been taken from you in the first place. All if you play your cards JUST RIGHT! Agreed?
My Very Best, My Brother. Be Well. Be Safe. Out.

As a Swede, the cultural affinity among the Scandinavian countries is a tell tale example of something like what CANZUK would be. Even before the EU, we had no borders and in practise a common labourmarket.
Scandinavian languages are actually more of dialects. Exept for Finnish, but very many also know Swedish, as it was the same kingdom for centuries.
And it has always been a very rewarding social thing, feeling Scandinavian, actually improving the quality of everyday life. I think these benefits are enough to warrant CANZUK.
Then there is of course the obvious defence gains, where you in practise most of the time anyway line up - the Ukraine war being a prime example.
Don't get caught on the trade benefits. Those are very hard to quantify in advance. Yet I would say the EU has over time proven itself.
In conclusion I would say: Go for it! Given the imense popular support, it really should be a no-brainer!

It improves economy, poweship, and mainly everything else.
We, canada, and NZ are really tied together as we did mainly the important things together and one thing we have in common is we all came from the UK, who is also involved in this, which is whats mainly improving things.
