Ah, antiquity-the time when humans decided that merely hunting and gathering was too easy and that it was high time they invented stress. So, they settled down, started farming, and unintentionally laid the foundation for globalization. Welcome to the Neolithic Revolution, the era when humans thought, "Wouldn't it be great if we didn't have to move around so much?" Thus, agriculture was born, and with it, the seeds (pun intended) of global trade.
Around 10,000 BC, in a stroke of genius or sheer laziness, humans began farming in the Fertile Crescent, a region that sounds a lot more comfortable than it actually was. This region, covering parts of modern-day Iraq, Syria, Lebanon, Israel, and Jordan, became the first to host large-scale agriculture. Grains like wheat and barley were domesticated, leading to surplus food and, consequently, the first economic boom.
This surplus allowed some people to do things other than farming-like inventing pottery, weaving, and, most importantly, figuring out new ways to annoy their neighbors. Because when you have more grain than you can eat, you can trade it for shiny objects, and before you know it, you've got yourself an economy.
Now, with surplus food came the need to trade, because who wouldn't want to swap their extra grain for some pretty beads or a nice piece of obsidian? Trade routes sprang up, linking villages and, eventually, early cities. By 6000 BC, long-distance trade networks had formed, with luxury items like lapis lazuli traveling all the way from Afghanistan to Mesopotamia. That’s right, ancient humans were global traders long before the internet made it cool.
Fast forward to around 3500 BC, and we have the rise of the first economic superpowers: Mesopotamia and Egypt. These civilizations weren't just farming anymore; they were building cities, inventing writing systems, and constructing monuments to remind future generations that they were indeed a big deal.
In Mesopotamia, the Sumerians developed one of the earliest forms of writing-cuneiform-which, surprise, surprise, was used to keep track of trade and inventory. Meanwhile, in Egypt, the pharaohs were busy building pyramids and establishing trade networks that reached as far as the Levant and Nubia. The Nile River was their highway, and they used it to transport goods like gold, papyrus, and linen.
By 3000 BC, we enter the Bronze Age, named for the new metal alloy that everyone suddenly couldn't live without. Bronze, made from copper and tin, was stronger and more durable than previous materials, making it ideal for tools, weapons, and, naturally, showing off. This technological leap allowed civilizations to expand their influence even further.
The Minoans on Crete, for example, became maritime traders, spreading their influence across the Aegean Sea. They traded goods like pottery, olive oil, and wine with neighboring regions, helping to lay the groundwork for the interconnected Mediterranean world.
With all this trading and technological advancement, you might think everyone was living the high life. But no, most people were still toiling away in the fields or working as artisans. The concept of a middle class was, at best, a distant dream. The wealth generated by trade largely ended up in the hands of the elite, who used it to build grand palaces and fund lavish lifestyles.
But hey, it wasn't all bad. These early civilizations did establish the foundations of economic systems, creating the first markets and formalizing trade practices. They also invented money, or at least the precursor to money, in the form of standardized weights and measures, which made trading a bit more straightforward and less reliant on bartering your goat for your neighbor's grain.

Yeah, this one really wasn't great.
It’s impossible to speak about *the economy of the west* without out talking about the free labor from murdering, kidnapping and trafficking humans to the west. Human trafficking was the most profitable and the largest asset of Europeans at that time. Also, It was not the Industrial Revolution which gave purpose to stealing from Africa but quite the contrary. It was stealing from Africa that gave rise and purpose to the Industrial Revolution. With free labor and free material trade boomed and freed up Europeans to specialize in various fields and thus industrializing. You started with the ancient Mesopotamians and Egyptians, Greeks etc skipped the Atlantic slave trade, and went right into the Industrial Revolution and the scramble for Africa. The Atlantic Slave Trade built the west and drained labor and resources from some of Africans most prominent societies. This video is nothing but a white washed version of history. by leaving out (or ever so slightly mentioning) the Atlantic Slave Trade you are making Europeans sound like they did it all simply on hard work, dedication, and being good businessman (like the Chinese did). This is the nothing short of a fantasy worldview and a fairytale story about European history. It leaves out major facts like the the fact that the richest man on earth was a West African King. Actual life for most people on what we know call Europe was much different than what you’ve started here. Under fatalism, Europe was a place where Europeans enslaved and sold their own people as slaves after that they then went on and invaded far away lands murdered and oppressed the locals and traded the very crops the locals themselves lived on as their own. Stunting any potential the local population had while enriching themselves and advancing the pockets of their overloads back home in Europe. If you guys are going to tell this story, tell the whole story! Don’t just briefly mention things here and there and make it sound all cute and innocent. I will say you did briefly mention pretty much everything I’m talking about you just didn’t go into detail. These types of videos (some random guy whitewashing all of history literally back until the beginning of time) always leave out the most important and interesting details. Anyway, 😒 cool story bro.
I just think it odd they always leave out the tens of millions or by some estimates (including the colonization on India) hundreds of millions of deaths caused directly or indirectly by Europeans during this time. They leave out all the wars fought against Africans, Indians and other indigenous peoples. Man, it’s amazing how these people leave out essentially all context and somehow paint their positive European centric view of history. The Greeks and Roman’s learned everything from Africa and the Middle East. Most of the world was similar throughout history. Everything in the second half of this video (aka more modern times) was built on the backs of the Atlantic Slave Trade. He is literally taking about companies going public etc some of these companies were heavily involved in Atlantic Slave Trade where much more than just slaves were traded.
On another note, when talking about the Middle Ages he said “some call it The Dark Ages” yeah, realists who paint a more honest picture of European history at this time a time when literacy rate in Europe was just above 7% poverty and disease was rampant and Europe was on the verge of collapse however, you would never tell the story that way no it was a time of “trade”, “exploitation”, and “colonization” yeah because Europe was in debt to China and on the verge of collapse.
Anyway, it’s just so difficult to listen to this video knowing that your leaving out so much important detail. You’re essentially painting a positive picture over some of the darkest times in European history. It’s amazing people are still telling this story... Tell the WHOLE story if you’re going to tell the story!

These jokes would only be understood by someone who actually knows about these periods in history and are extremely important details that he’s leaving out. This video is completely out of context to put it lightly. Be careful what you read and what you watch. When western society collapses you’ll be left wondering how that’s possible when you get your history from guys like this. He knows the truth but can’t/won’t say it.

I'm a busy person and I have no time to read books or can afford and videos is very entertaining and informative. I have some ideas about history and economy but this stitch all in to one. This vid stitch all my scattered knowledge and filled up the missing pieces. I all fits now like you helped me finished a huge jigsaw puzzle that time to time if I have spare time I would put them together but unable to finish it because I have other work to do.

I don't mind the AI stuff...its kinda cool to have some visual of what life might have been like in those times and regions of the world...at least as it relates to this particular topic. Hopefully you can improve on them a bit. But i would say going back and forth from video to you reading from notes doesn't work well. Perhaps bring yourself in for just side notes and commentary, or something like that. Liked the old format, but i think this could work well and people will start to like it. Just gotta work out the kinks.
The issue with the visuals - in addition to being ugly, relying on massive amounts of plagiarized data, and using incredibly power-intensive technology - is that they DON'T represent what life might have been like in those times. Watching this video as a historian was painful due to the massive inaccuracies in virtually every clip. I worry about how skewed people's ideas about how the past looked might become if these kinds of videos are normalized.

I think it's the professionals and those who use their services that are really pulling in the big money right now. There are really advisors that can help you achieve very consistent growth. I have a friend who pulled in more than $194k profit within three months. So you just have to make some research and get one who fits your fin-goal.

I just listened & enjoyed this nicely presented brief recap. It's nice to see where we are in context, simplified & somewhat shallow as it was, still, a useful greater picture of human trade. Automation will give new endeavors beyond work or "employment." Humanity could be on the brink of seeing itself beyond a material entity only. When we grasp that we are spirit having a human experience & realize that both ways of experiencing are beneficial, we could finally grasp that we are already living in "heaven" if we choose to create it.

Generative AI is incredibly destructive to the environment due to its huge energy costs, built off of the plagiarized work of real artists, and when used in history content creates a warped impression of the past by blending random images together and presenting them as representing "history," on top of looking bad. In addition, the use of AI visuals signals a willingness to use AI in the creative process, which is a huge red flag with regards to the accuracy of information, since if there's any behind-the-scenes use of AI in research or writing that create massive risks of so-called "hallucinations" making their way in. I refuse to watch AI generated content, both as a matter of principle and with the knowledge that educational videos featuring AI generated content are less reliable.
I'm a one-person team who typically makes less than a dollar a day off of RUclips, and don't use any AI. Having "a small team" is absolutely no excuse for AI-driven content. I'm also part of a slack server with many larger HistoryTubers where we've had numerous conversations on when, if ever, AI can be used ethically, and even the most pro-AI among us are only in favor of AI images in extremely specific circumstances; the use of AI generated video clips throughout an entire video goes far beyond that. I'm entirely in favor of channels trying new things creatively; trying new things that automate the creative process utilizing unethical technologies is something else entirely, and should be condemned in no uncertain terms. I will not present a toothless critique and hope the channel listens and improves, I am demonstrating my dissatisfaction in the only materially meaningful way possible on RUclips, by unsubscribing. My comment lets the RUclipsr know why, so that if they see a sudden dip in subscriptions after this video they can get an idea of why. That is "constructive criticism," unlike wordlessly unsubscribing.

Pleasantly surprised by the amount of information you were able to squeeze in the video. In the final part of the video you basically came to the conclusion I was wanting to share with you. With an additional comment from my side. If you factor in the following you might come to the same conclusion I did. There have been steps taken in history on purpose with the knowledge of the results they will have. Reasons for these steps made to achieve desired results. Though there are benefits, there are also desastreus goals on the agenda. A few comments, in recent archeological discoveries in Iran (the Jiroft & Shahr-e-Sookhteh) the archeologists have uncovered evidence that those areas may have been about 2000 years ahead of the Mesopotamia, so many artifacts such as pottery, tools... may have developed there first then gone to Mesopotamia. Another comment, I do not believe Alexander should be referred to as Alexander the Great, but rather Alexander the Barbarian or murderer as he did not accomplish anything positive, except going to those lands, burning, destroying and killing and most important looting and destroying more advanced civilizations than where he came from.
