What's so darn impressive about this, to me, aside from all the styles being so accurately depicted is that you did it in ONE TAKE! WHAT!? It would take me A LOT of work to just be able to replicate all the styles you played (so beautifully by the way) but also to be able to move through each of them in one take without any errors? Wow. You are amazing!
I have a special sort of admiration for the fact that you chose Hymn to Freedom for Peterson. It's an unexpected, but clearly artistically thoughtful choice.
I wonder how many hours of listening and practice time she has put into this wonderfull tribute..it is amazing what talent and dedication can lead to. This must be one of the best pianists out there..
Probably lots of practice but not much listening. She did not capture the soul of any of the pianists, she does not know how to swing. Which is fine, she plays a different kind of music. So why do this?
Hampton Hawes, Junior Mance, Ramsey Lewis, Joe Sample, Gerald Clayton. Gene Harris, Earl Father Hines, Count Basie, Duke Ellington. Andre Previn, George Shearing, Marian McPartland, Dave McKenna, Beegie Adair, and how can you represent Yuja Wang?
I wish piano was more popular and has a revival. Your interpretation of each artist is stunning and deserves more exposure to our younger population today.
With the advent of relatively affordable electronic keyboards I think it's highly likely more people play piano than ever. There's seemingly too much technical virtuosity to go around to the point that a lot of it is just noise on social media, but nevertheless we're in a golden age of instrument adoption and technical prowess even if it doesn't get much of any mainstream attention. I think the true lament is the decline of Jazz's popularity...
Jimin... You're beautiful!. You brighten up any piece and your virtuosity is huge!. You know every little nuance from those top jazz pianists and your fingers re-encarnate then. Further, you make this nowadays chaotic world much more bearable with your gorgeous music. 🙏 Thanks, and congrats🤳
Your ability to do this is so appreciated. I bet there are only a handful of American-born jazz pianists who could represent eighteen different styles as well as you did. This is the stuff that only jazz piano professors are capable of. Kamsahamnida! P.S. You (understandably) made me so proud of the people who created this music. Thank you very much for honoring them in this very special and reverent way.
She is WONDERFUL! AMAZING! and she did do Hazel Scott! I'm still watching, waiting for Oscar!! From Canada! She did! And Herbie H. And Chick C! What can't she do? One I know she could do is Mike Garson, you know, he plays jazz very well! Anyways, she should compose, if she hasn't. I'd love to see her live in NYC! I'll be following.
Great medly of music from popular jazz artists! Thank you for sharing your talent while commemorating the famous past ones! Great selection, lovely skill!
That is a hilarious comment because she does not sound like a single one of the pianists on the list. I really do not see the point of listening to jazz transcriptions played as though it is classical music--half of the music is missing. Just listen to the originals.
@@JohnSmith-oe5kx Thats a hilarious comment, because you see someone put all this effort into learning the sounds and styles of jazz pianists that most people probably are largely influenced by anyway, putting on a really nice performance of them and its a "just listen to the originals" from you. Either she tried to sound exactly like them, and thats a no from you because 😠😠😠 or she just wanted to pay tribute to some of her favourite artists and their pieces and had her own voice in them, which to you I guess is also bad. Why do literally anything, cause its fun and enjoyable and you literally just want to. Its hard to capture the nuance of literally 18 people whose entire presence was their feeling, so its already a tall order. But also get those original pianists to play that exact same song from the recording, and they probably wont. Itll be a different feel, different energy, different dynamics since jazz is a dynamic expression of music. And so are other peoples performances of them.
@@rickenbacker40011 But she DIDN'T learn their sounds and styles, is my exact point. She learned the notes, but she cannot swing worth a lick. Reading all of the ridiculously effusive comments was just too much for me not to point this out.
This was SO GOOD!! What are some of the most fun styles you enjoyed playing? Were there any others that you wanted to showcase but couldn't fit in (Horace Silver, Count Basie, Jimmy Smith, Toshiko Akiyoshi, Marian McPartland, Brad Mehldau, etc.)?
This is so useful for educational purposes for my future students. Great tune choices and stellar performance, almost inhuman precision. All them was amazing. I particularly enjoyed Errol Garner, Barry Harris, Jamal, Bill Evans. Of course we could say Keith Jarrett is missing. But reasonable that your title says 18, because I was still surprised by the breadth of your list, especially that you could even include Jelly Roll, Bobby Timmons and Mulgrew Miller. I was immensely touched and put under a spell by your performance of Round Midnight here under Monk. Was happy to hear Poinciana and Hymn to Freedom.
Great work! But next time please do include the great composer Horace Silver whose work defined a pivotal departure in our music, that ushering in the hard bop era of the late 50s.
That Hazel Scott piece brought tears to my eyes.

It would take me A LOT of work to just be able to replicate all the styles you played (so beautifully by the way) but also to be able to move through each of them in one take without any errors? Wow. I bet it took her quite some work as well...
I know -- one take! An Olympic feat.
The only "error" is the whole thing..
Just wonderful
Anyone who is a Pro makes no mistakes aside from practice sessions...
the key to being a great is to study the greats, phenomenal.
Te vagy nekem a legjobb !!!!!,!
Amazing Pianist! When I grow up, I want to be like her! 😊❤
this is one of the greatest videos on youtube
I was so thrilled you included Hazel Scott. Awesome job, my dear. 👏
I loved every note. So jaw dropping talented.
Many different artist´s styles so perfectly played, bravo 🌹🌿🍀
No one equals her in this respect. It's a lot harder to play other people's licks than your own.
Wow!! Absolutely brilliant playing. This made me smile so much.
Magnificent playing! Bravo! What a joy to listen.
Wonderful Ms Jimin - you captured each one spectacularly IMHO! (You never cease to amaze me) 🌟🤩
멋진 지민씨 - 하나하나를 훌륭하게 포착하셨네요 IMHO! (당신은 나를 계속 놀라게 해요) 🌟🤩
Wow! The only other jazz pianist I know of who could play so many different styles so well was Dorothy Donegan.
Dick Hyman can.
Thanks for including Hazel Scott! I can't get enough of her.
Sei una grandissima pianista ti voglio bene più di tutti ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤Piccina amore ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
You enchanted me with such an incredibly beautiful collection of absolutely phenomenal covers of this magical music.

jazz piano fans will be so happy, thank you
Absolutely jaw-dropping.....
What a display of (🎶) power ! And what a paramount tribute to those giants 🏆
Hampton Hawes, Junior Mance, Ramsey Lewis, Joe Sample, Gerald Clayton. Gene Harris, Earl Father Hines, Count Basie, Duke Ellington. Andre Previn, George Shearing, Marian McPartland, Dave McKenna, Beegie Adair, and how can you represent Yuja Wang?
Wonderful. Oscar Peterson instantly makes you start tapping your foot. Love his style.
Love watching over and over.
Another jaw-dropping performance. How many people can pull this off? JD should be performing in a concert hall every night!

@randomchannel-px6ho jazz bleeds over to fusion and progressive nowadays. It is simply changing and evolving.
Love it! Beautiful coverage of legendary styles.
Awesome mastery of so many varied styles.
Brilliant performance and excellent selection of songs! Deep respect!
Amazing talent

Definitely the most fun era of music ever imo 😁
Awesome playing... love that stride left hand!
