    I like how Parrot is making strides to try and keep up with the ever changing drone market. They have a very light and functional craft here with some unique features. Hoping they can fix a few quirks with software updates and also include the "Follow Me" and "Flight Plan" features for free soon!
    More testing to come with the Anafi and more. Please subscribe so you don't miss out.

    That was incredible range, almost the advertised limit. I would have expected much much worse in a residential area and flying as low as you were. Very encouraging.

      Advertised at 3 Kilometers.
      This Man went 3.5 Kilometers on this video so what you talking about Almost? It actually Exceeded, without losing Video Feed 👍💯

  • @RonaldBrown59
    @RonaldBrown59 6 лет назад +12

    That was a interesting range test. Even with the weak wifi warning after around only 500 meters the Anafi kept going to about the advertised distance range. And besides the FPV signal breaking up you seemed to have full control most of the flight. Well done Dustin.

    Great demo. The more I use this incredible drone, the more I love it. I fly it out at sea where average winds are 10-20Kts. Apart from challenging "snatch it out of the air" landings, the ANAFI has no issues flying in high winds. Tremendous little drone. The best bang for your buck.

      What would you recommend between Mi 4K, Yuneec Typhoon, Anafi?

    • @Seitenwerk
      @Seitenwerk 5 лет назад +4

      I made the switch from a Spark to Anafi. The signal quality difference is unbelievable. I’m living in the EU so we get a reduced signal strength due to laws as all drone pilots already know. That means drones like the DJI Spark or the Mavic Air which rely on WiFi only reach up to 150-200 meters before loosing signal and controller connection. I expected pretty much the same from the Anafi but wow, this thing is a beast : even at 300 meters still full signal strength. I even went into my house and tested if I would still at least be connected and it also has full signal.
      So yeah, the Anafi is definitely the much better drone. And not especially compared to the Spark. I would even compare it in some parts to the Mavic Pro/Zoom. The image quality is amazing, HDR can really make a big difference if used wisely, 25 minutes flight time are actually easy reachable (not like the spark which claimed 16 minutes but usually only gets to 13 minutes), it’s the only drone on the market that can actually look up (whole new creative possibilities) and all this with only 320gramms

    • @KipIddy
      @KipIddy 5 лет назад

      I’m considering the spark or this and after this video I’m really leaning towards this now. But wondering if it’s worth it... I’m so torn!

    • @Seitenwerk
      @Seitenwerk 5 лет назад +5

      Kyle Idstein hey. I can give you some info as I switched from the Spark to the Anafi only a week ago: I would get the Anafi and I think it’s a pretty easy decision.
      Things the Anafi offers that the spark doesn’t:
      -21MP Sensor (that’s on par with the latest Mavic 2 for less then half the prize)
      -4K 30fps Video (the difference in quality is huge for videos, especially if you are not just watching on your phone)
      -Zoom (only the Mavic 2 Zoom offers that too)
      -Camera can look up (no other drone except the bad GoPro one can do that and it gives you so many new filming options)
      -Flight time is 25 minutes (which it also reaches in reality. The Spark only gets you around 13 Minutes and that’s a big difference. You will have to get many batteries for the spark to compensate for that but having to fly back and land to switch batteries will always be a negative. I bought 4 batteries and the mobile charging station for the spark. But beeing able to fly for 25 in one session is such a big plus, I often find myself wondering why the Anafi still has got to much power left after getting als my shots as I am just. It used to not having to switch at least one time before I recorded all shots I want ^^)
      -Noise. The Anafi might be one of the quietest drones on the market. The Spark and especially the Air are emitting a real loud high pitches noise on the other hand
      -Signal strength. Now this may differ outside the EU, but here the Spark and Air won’t get much further than 150-200 meters while the Anafi still has full signal at 300 meters (couldn’t test how far it would go beyond 300 meters yet)
      -Software: parrots flight app is, in my opinion, much better than DJIs. All menus and settings are easy to access unlike the DJI one where even camera settings are a submenu you have to constantly switch to.
      -follow me and tracking: Anafis tracking is better than that of DJI drones. It offers features like rearranging the tracking subject in your frame via drag and drop that DJI doesn’t have (Spark and other will just center your tracking target). Using follow me, the Anafi also uses your phones GPS and barometer, which allows this drone to also follow you even if it can’t see you anymore while adjusting its height automatically. DJI drones on the other hand will stop tracking the moment they can’t see you (the new Mavic 2 is a little better but still not comparable)
      -Waypoints: the Spark and Air don’t offer any waypoint functionality. The Anafi does (although it will cost you a one time 1€ purchase in the app) and its really great (there are some videos on RUclips about it) if you have the Spark or Air you only chance of using such feature is a third party app but that will give you warranty problems with DJI.
      Inform know what’s your budget, but I would consider getting the Parrot Anafi Extended Edition as it gives you two extra batteries

    There are videos of the Mavic Air greatly improving its range by manually putting it into the 5ghz band instead of 2.4. Most home WiFi’s are 2.4 and interfered with the Anafi, would love to see this same test in 5ghz only, I don’t expect additional range as much as a clearer fpv

      @@Nebbia_affaraccimiei Because 2.4gHz Has more superior penetration through obstacles and more distance punch unlike 5gHz which is way faster but doesn't penetrate obstacles as well as having less distance punch.

      Skorpion Reaper its true as a general principle but the wifi performance is mostly dependent from snr, in a noisy environment like he is you usually get a lot better quality on 5ghz due to the number of channels available and the low % of dual band wifi routers in homes.

  • @JimPfarr
    @JimPfarr 5 лет назад

    Do you know the antenna radiation patter for the controller? Typically the worst reception is directly out the top because most stick-type antennas radiate in a donut pattern (thus the tip of the antenna is a hole). I suspect this is a flat directional antenna (maybe parabolic) , and should get best reception when you point the face of the antenna at the drone. Pointing the antenna at the ground or away from the drone will definitely reduce signal strength.

    The garbled screen is at the boundary of 2.5ghz and 5.0ghz.
    5ghz is better at short range. Large bandwidth, short range.

Plus this drone has great flight time. My next drone will have some range though for out in the mountains

      I love so much my 4g disco that I’m too afraid to lose it and I have ordered a redundant gps tracker... just in case... (if even Dustin uses one, there must be some good reasons... ;)

    Dustin great review again on the anafi’ but I’m still not convinced to buy this drone.
    I so want to purchase the Mavic Pro!
    Should I wait until DJI release the pro II

      I'd check it the Autel EVO if you don't want to wait for Pro 2 👍

    Dustin, If you would have been higher, do you think the res wifi would have made such an impact? I'm most impressed by the wifi band scan. Of course that's only where you take off. I suppose a clean band at take off could be a very busy band several hundred meters away. I really like this drone. Thanks.

      possibly further but the patch antennas are facing out horizontally on legs so higher would also skew the radiation cone from the antenna to pilot on ground.

  • @NBAThrowback00

    Nice test. Next time do it in 5GHz, you'll get a lot better range without the 2.4GHz residential interference.

    Great Video as usual Dustin! - Just a quick question for you mate. When you cache a map, Does it remain cached within the FF6 App? Also with FFP, Does the map remain cached for future use, Or is there a way to do this? Thanks mate

    • @DustinDunnill
      @DustinDunnill  5 лет назад +2

      Thanks. It usually does but sometimes it resets. If I remember there is an option in app somewhere to save map offline.

    I may buy one of these, but definitely not until I see they've done an update on RTH @20 meters. Too LOW.

    • @Chretze
      @Chretze 6 лет назад

      On the Bebop 2 you have the option to set RTH height manually in the app, 20m is just the default setting. I'm pretty sure you can adjust it on the Anafi as well.

    • @DustinDunnill
      @DustinDunnill  6 лет назад +1

      Not yet. They need to update freeflight6 with the option

      Bet they're gonna add that very soon, otherwise I'd be very disappointed...

      This is the very reason mine crashed and is beyond repair. signal was fine WiFi cut out and it returned home into the object that cut the signal out in the first place as I was flying at 30m it did not climb up to the max set altitude that had been set in the app as this is not a return to home altitude. Terrible foresight and one would thing this would be in the app on release like DJI products.

    • @Chretze
      @Chretze 6 лет назад +1

      No, that's not the reason it crashed. The reason it crashed is because you flew behind an object and thus lost wifi connection. I wouldn't even do that with my mavic platinum.
      And that max set altitude setting is there to give yourself a limit if you know that there are airplanes or paragliders or whatever above you so you don't fly into them.

    Interesting! So, if you were going to recommend a drone for a beginner, would you recommend the Anafi or the EVO? Very good test too!

    • @DustinDunnill
      @DustinDunnill  6 лет назад +1

      For a beginner I'd recommend the Anafi over the EVO. Mainly because it's cheaper smaller & lighter. I really think it will be quite durable as the Bebop line was 👍

      Dustin Dunnill , thanks, and I bet the Anafi will drop in price about a hundred dollars when dji brings out their new product.

    Great test, but why is the horizon slightly tilted all the time? The gimbal doesn’t seem to be leveling properly. (Edit: NVM, it was the natural slope of the topography.)

      @DustinDunnill  6 лет назад

      I'm on a mountain. Gimbal is fine

    • @MrPlaneTalk
      @MrPlaneTalk 6 лет назад +1

      Dustin Dunnill ok. I see now. After further review, it appears to be the topography. On the flight out, it was tilted right. On the RTH flight back, it was tilted left. My bad.

  • @ronneilcamara5071
    @ronneilcamara5071 5 лет назад +1

    Am I right that when it returned back, you were able to resume connection? It's because I noticed you were able to move the camera. Also, what was the height of the drone?

  • @bjnslc
    @bjnslc 6 лет назад

    Range on mine in my neighborhood with lots of SSIDs is very poor. Like 200' (60m) directly overhead with warnings flashing. Parrot recommends setting phone to airplane mode as one of its range troubleshooting options. I don't have your confidence to keep pushing past the warnings, since RTH return altitude is so low. They also suggest increasing altitude with distance to improve reception. Parrot blog post here -goo.gl/o8SNfS

    Interesting. Some others with pimped Bebop 2 drones have also reported that it returns home dead -on 3500. I wonder if there's an internal limit somewhere in the app or firmware?

    When you’re switching the channels for the WiFi how do you go about deciding. Like whens the best time to use the 2.4ghz and whens the best time to run the drone on the 5ghz? And how do you know which channel number to pick?

    • @DustinDunnill
      @DustinDunnill  5 лет назад

      It's hard to say exactly but if you look at the wifi graph in the setting you can see what channels have the worst interference and choose accordingly.

    I started my Drone carrer with the Bebop 1 a few years a go. Nowdays I prefere DJI but its impressive to see the development of the Parrot drones. These are not toys anymore. 3500 Meters is a very good result. But due to my experiences with Bebop1 I wouldn't buy a drone which relies an WiFi anymore.
