Great video Ben, just curious if you were thinking about requesting a “Traffic Service” given the seemingly poor visibility assuming there was a LARS available .. I don’t like flying directly into the sun with haze on a Basic service
It was a weekend so there was no LARS or Radar Service available sadly! This wasn’t the case when Blackpool used to have a radar unit, it’s a real shame they don’t now. As you’ve seen in my other videos I’ll always ask for a traffic service if available.
Thanks for the video, Ben! I'm training at Barton. The field is back open from tomorrow, but training can't resume until 13th April. I'm starting again in June, and feel like a little child at christmas!
Very enjoyable, it brought back a lot of memories. I did my PPL at in Blackpool with ANT back in 1988 and flew between Blackpool Barton and Liverpool many times. Also in one of ANT's Cherokees.
Brings back a few memories. Taking off from 08 you were always looking round to see where to put it down in case the engine failed. I reason the rugby field was the best option.
Where ya gonna off 8 left if the engine fails at 200'? Happened to me in our Chipmunk but thankfully wasn't a total engine failure. The engine coughed as we crossed the fence, then at about 200' all hell broke loose. Banging, popping, vibration, lost about 50% of the power and couldn't read the instruments for the vibration. Instant nose-down and - nowhere to go! Just wall to wall houses. I discovered I could just about maintain height and began a VERY gentle left turn towards open ground. I couldn't hear the radio but just kept transmitting I was partial engine failure returning. In other words "if anyone is thinking of landing 09, clear off! I am coming right back and it's MY runway". Managed a very low and slow LH circuit almost along the airfield northern boundary, and when abeam the 09 numbers closed the throttle while pitching the nose down into a descending left turn to land. Taxyed straight to the engineers followed by the fire truck!
Hey Ben! What settings did you have on your go pro, especially the one from your POV? Struggling to get exposure right so the balance is right for seeing the instruments and seeing outside the aircraft.

Really looking forward to being able to get back into the air again. Always good to fly along with you in the 'virtual' seat. Take care and stay safe
Cheers Tim, I can’t wait either!
Always enjoy your videos. Thanks for doing them. Especially in this time of self isolation.
It’s keeping me occupied editing though, I’m glad you enjoy watching them!

Yeh if you look on google maps you’ve a nice few options.

Great film Ben.....
Thank you very much Mark!
Enjoy your videos. good flying. if ever in the west coast of the US I'll take you to Catalina Is. for a buffalo burger.
That’d be lovely!
Do you ever when flying VFR use ESTRY and BILVO as a positions or just visual positioning?
I don’t like using ESTRY if VFR as it’s a bit out to sea, usually just use VRPs.

1080p Superwide
Great video again!
Thanks a lot mate!
Legend.
Enjoyed the Kite confusion at 8:00 - I would definitely have assumed ATC meant the stringy variety!
Hahah that’s exactly what I was thinking too, especially when people often fly them on the beach!
Very nice mate. I need to learn grass runways, my preference for regional airports is going to become very expensive very quickly hahaha
Cheers, Charlie!
Nice video as always :)
Thanks a lot, Joe!
i Flew in the plane yesterday with my freind who was having a lesson
Nice vid Ben. Hear you on vatsim sometimes and know it’s you instantly with your accent 😂 take care mate
