  • Fourroux Prosthetics - Redefining Prosthetics!
Laura, a bk amputee, shares her experience at Fourroux Prosthetics.
    I was nervous at first.
It's so personal getting a prosthetic leg from someone or I guess any kind of prosthesis from someone.
So you really got to feel comfortable and feel-- They made me feel like family, like I was everybody's little sister that they picked on.
But, when it's so intimate like that you really- the comfort level has to be there and I felt it right away.
So that was the best thing, and they wanted to use new technology, and the old place they really were stuck in a old rut, using the same technology.
So to have the chance to use the new technology was awesome. Very exciting.
I didn't know AK, BK, above knee, below knee.
I'm a below the knee. I've been that way since I was able to walk, and I didn't know that that was the terminology used for it and I didn't know about the ACA, the Amputee Coalition.
    What else?
I just have learned so much more of the terminology and I just feel like I'm more involved in the process of it, and I learned about the technology that they use with the scanning.
And oh, man, I feel like I've learned more in the past four years than I did my whole life about prosthetics.
    The more educated the better!
One of the biggest things was that I am a girl and I love to wear flip-flops and I love to wear high heels.
And, so I wear business suits, I wear dresses, and I want to wear high heels with it.
And so that was a big thing that they spent a lot of time looking into on how to get the best foot for me.
And so the current foot I'm wearing I can wear high heels and I can also wear flip-flops and I paint the toenails.
So they really paid a lot of attention to that.
This leg that I have has the best range of motion in my knee so dancing-wise it's very- a lot easier.
It's very nice to be able to have full motion of my knee.
The old legs that I wore were kind of restrictive in that way
If you're not happy where you're at, definitely give Fourroux a try.
    It doesn't hurt.
And if- also I think if people feel stale where they're at which--I felt kind of stale and like I was moving backwards--that there is a place out there that is progressing, is positive, is forward motion, and just to give it a try.
It doesn't hurt to call and just to see what it is, come to the facility, see what they offer.
I want them to know that if there are things in your life that are very important to you, but that a prosthesis might hinder you from doing those that you can always ask.
And I think that most things they can find a way for you to do it.
And as an amputee you do know your limitations but- and everyone says, "Oh, you- nothing stops you."
Well, that's 'cause I find my own way to do it.
So I really think that people need to figure out what they want from their prosthetics and ask for it.
If they don't get it where they're going try Fourroux.
