    Having actual defined character flaws is incredibly rare for most D&D characters, and every single one of the BG3 cast has major ones with story implications along the way. Makes for tons of fun for both the players and the DM when something pops up from your backstory and now it's everyone's problem.

      A good DM/Player will give every NPC/ their own PC at least 1 major flaw.
      It's just that many players don't do that, because they're either still young, new, or powergamers.

    My Drow character left the Underdark with a fear of touch, so when she's about have a touch spell cast on them, there was a save to avoid pulling back from it. Her Patron had given her Cure Wounds to facilitate her overcoming that fear, and the save would need to be made to cast touch spells upon others as well.
    This almost became deadly when the fighter was trying to grapple her so they could escape a Star Spawn Emissary, and failing the save caused her to freak out and attempt to resist. The party was never so relieved to see her roll a nat 1 acrobatics check.

    Well done. You actually just caused me to start a discussion with my dm to build out a backstory that will fit into our game without a lot of work for him and retcon my character having a relationship to a small role npc. This will elevate the npc and create a hook for the dm to use, and not be a visible retcon to the other players because of the slow reveal. Thanks.

    Great ideas. Also love your style in general. I believe you can get far in this space.

    There are a number of role playing games that have all of these things baked into the mechanics. This video is thought provoking in that it's causing me to wonder why, after so many editions, d&d never adopted some of them. Great channel, by the way!

    My half orc, half Goliath has the 'Haunted one' background and it caused her to go mad and she pulled one of her eyes out. And I have her make saving throws to not have a flare up of madness. And Shakespeare and poetry is a way to get her out of a episode 😂

    I'm planning on making an incredibly weird weirdo! He's an aberrant mind sorcerer with something a little extra riding around in his head. Not a mind flayer tadpole, but soooooomething.

      He tells you so early on though. It’s even in his origin background in the character creation screen haha.

      He does a terrible job of hiding it. Bright red eyes and visible bite marks? The only thing he had going for him in terms of curbing suspicion is the fact that he can walk in the sun.

    Okay I must stop you right there. Yes giving characters something unique is cool. But do so in moderation. Had a player receive an average of 400 dmg at level 10 on a crit. No fancy multiclass. Just a 17-20 crit and a multiplication by 4 instead of 2, of all damage not just dice

    • @SeniorSunday
      @SeniorSunday 6 месяцев назад +4

      Ok... So the part where you went wrong was multiplying damage by 4 (presumably including the damage added for attack stat, since you said all damage not just dice) after somehow managing to double the damage a normal attack would deal without a crit. An average attack for a lv 10 fighter is between 30-50 damage per round... Which is HALF of what you would need to deal in one round on a base attack in order to get 400 on a crit. And that's if you roll max damage... Realistically it would need to be higher because no one rolls max damage, much less doing so reliably. If your normal attack is averaging 100 points per turn, you've already home brewed some crazy unballanced tom-foolery.
      At that point, it's less about giving people cool and unique things and more about the fact that you ignored every limiting factor needed to balance the game. Turning your PC into a nuclear bomb goes so far beyond moderation that I'm kind of gobsmacked about how you could have gotten in that situation in the first place.

      Maybe you shouldn’t have let the player multiply by 4… The DM has the last word mate, don’t be a pushover.
