@@starchmonkey He either got nervous about having the party, or his parents got in the way of it, so he thought of an excuse, not anticipating anyone would care enough to call him on it since they said they weren't coming anyway. They started picking apart his story and he was too embarrassed to come clean, so he just committed to saying as little as possible and taking his lumps, for fear of embarrassing himself further. He was also probably trying to keep the bit going because he wanted to be on the radio and also it shows he's a team player.
