My take down game has always been horrible but just watching a few videos like this have made me understand the standup grappling game a lot better. I missed out on wrestling in highschool so I really love simple and comprehensive videos like this.
Excellent video. It reminded me of what my martial arts and dance instructors said to me before. "You can't pivot or turn with any stability if the posture is broken... it is much easier for the followers to read and follow you when your posture is upright and stable."
i discovered this technique when i was a kid at school and we often fought, wrestled in between lessons. It worked 99% of the time even against stronger kids. Im grown up now and no many opportunities to wrestle ;)
Great video, I finally understand the hands interlocked grip is not fingered And is wrist based to make it stronger. Also, the waist lock by shorter guy and using head to push the solar plexus and lower waist arms lock, taller guy using head to push shoulder From TOP and Low waist grip by hands to take down is good. Also change angle and position if dead lock by both parties. Finally the grips should be strong enough to break the posture. I think these points are Quite applicable and relevant to Muay Thai clinching.
I think I was taught to grab one hand by the wrist and make a fist with the othet. Then when u drive the hand into the lower back u roll it in so the fist digs into the back
In greco-roman training we use a different grip where we tie our hands by our forearms to limit the empty space between us. Probably the first video I 've seen for Greco-roman wrestling in MMA. Great content as always
I am just really glad that your channel blew up ! i remember when you taught about the basics of a jab , using your whole bodyweight as you step forward, back then you had maybe 8-10 k subs ? The production value has increased but tha value of the knowledge presented remains the same. Great dedication , kudos!
Interesting one. I've never seen it before, despite being that simple. The closest thing I've seen was someone hugging another person (belly to belly), lifting him up, and quickly sliding his arms down from the lower back to the hips in order to throw him. I think that's also Greco-Roman wrestling. The best understanding of broken body structure for throws I've seen was in Systema, Silat, and Shastarvidya. (LOL, all start with S)

This is also just the logic for a driving tackle in American Football. I’m really regretting that I didn’t try this in any of my High School Wrestling matches before the season ended...
When you talk about self defense for women you should include this. I am a 5 8 feet. And back then about 160 lbs. I learned physics fast trying to grapple with huge guys. Don't have to be strong or big if you know physics. I like this demonstration. Great technique.
that's the first one I ever learned to but I was taught to do it slightly differently I'm not sure if that particular nuance makes it a different takedown or not, I even like the WWE rashguard!
My grappling coach always told med that if you are good at pummeling and know a couple of takedowns like these you will be able to take down a lot of people.
The first take down you should know is some form of shot, single or double. If you actually intend on taking someone down those will be available way more often and will be way more affective.
What is more- it is natural way of taking people down. It is so natural in fact, that i started doing this, without even being shown this technique- sort of just started to work itself out, when in clinch. Like my body knew without me even thinking about it. The twisting the head was another, that i just sort of worked myself out- there were things, that i had to polish, of course, like frst thing i did was press the guys head to my chest and twisting his head with my forearms, when he was in front of me, but i could adjust during session and take people down on first tries- part of it, i admit comes from the fact, i am heavier, than most, and can muscle through some, but i already was going in right direction I always have been huge fan of things, that sort of come to people naturally- part of it comes from the fact, that those kind of habits only needs to be "cleaned out"(from unecessary movements for example), rather than overwritten, and partially, because i know i will not hurt myself doing it, if it feels "right"(i move in a way, that makes my body feel comfortable)
Ramsey I'm a boxer the one that's gonna fight in the wbc I don't know if your remember me from last comment could you upload a video on how to increase punching speed please?
I tore my ACL with this body lock. His crouch hit my leg on the way down , and hyper extended it. Think I’m to traumatized to try this again but good video!
Wow, its so easy and from a common position I will teach it to my wife. Also in terms of self-defence it doesnt look like "martial arts" so gets you in less trouble if you injure an assailant.
That pushing in that pushing in the back/pulling on the head move near the beginning of the video, isn't that more about providing a fulcrum near the centre of mass to rotate around by pulling the head (or shoulder but then he might rotate out of it by rotating along his vertical axis as well)? So, rather than putting much power in moving the opponent, you want to keep a strong frame? I'm no wrestler but I like how wrestling is such a nice application of mechanics 🙂
