I can't believe he's not more famous by now. At the same time I'm glad he's not owned by the masses because I feel like he's just mine. Is that a weird thing to say? ;) What an artist.

    i fucking love his voice
and the words that come out of his mouth
and the emotions he sings out loud
    with a guitar
    or a harmonica
    all authentic
it's beautiful and moving to the core

I must've listened to Transfiguration of Vincent, my favorite album of his and one I'd recommend, a few dozen times before I finally really appreciated not just the songs, but the way they work together to tell a story throughout the album. You've just gotta be patient with his music, but it's well worth it.

This has got to be a tribute to "Homeward Bound" and other songs by by (Paul) Simon and Garfunkle. The music is 100% M. Ward, but some lines seem to be directly referring to Paul Simon lyrics. For instance, compare "Every town is all the same" and "Each town looks the same to me." Other lines invoke "Kathy's Song" and "The Boxer." Themes of the traveling musician, and rain, and where your love lies, all invoke Paul Simon's early works. Then again, I could be completely wrong. Wouldn't be the first time.

totally with you. the line "I ain't gonna lie to you" is so reminiscent of Paul too, both lyrically and musically

My heart just melted at this song. His voice is spectacular. Not to mention he is pretty easy on the eyes.

@fladioist I'd say for all of those reasons you've listed (although I see them in a more positive light) is why I love M. Ward's music so much. It's his subtlety that makes his songs so beautiful. Because he doesn't make anything blatant, you just have to listen to his songs many more times than songs that for instance, you could like within the first few seconds of hearing it but quickly get bored of it because there's nothing more to it besides the catchy melody.

I feel so sleepy listening to his voice. And, for me, it's not a bad thing.

All you rubes who claim to "not understand" M. Ward or "not get him" should probably give up on any aspirations of listening to good music, let alone passing judgement on what music is good or bad.

Willie Nelson has a song - Me And Paul - refering to his long serving drummer and their shared trials and tribulations on the road [en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Paul_English_(drummer)]

What kind of guitar does he have?

I just watched about 4 or 5 M. Ward videos and I'm trying to determine what it is that he is good at. Each song I have heard pretty much avoids any kind of substantial melody, is vocally absent, and the guitar playing seems as if he plays whichever chord comes to mind at that time while he is afraid to let you hear the instrument. I have tried very hard and I just don't get it. Someone help me out. Then let me know if anyone wants to go see Blind Pilot in Pittsburgh tonight.
