Kombi Life I visited penticton for a month to see family and I've got to say that is the best place I've ever been to and it will always be also vernon is an amazing place
Great episode! We love all those parts of Canada that guys travelled through. They're not always easy and cheap for van life but still definitely worth the trip :)
VW life hack: I've had 2 bus fires. 1 a total loss 73 westfalia beautifully and painstakingly restored and customized. freeway gears, new canvas etc..... how you ask? 2lb fire extinguisher not enough extinguisher for the fire. lesson learned.... second fire 69 westy hard top... 5 lb fire extinguisher saved it. both fuel delivery problems. so PLEASE GET A BIGGER FIRE EXTINGUISHER!!! RUN hard fuel line where ever you can and keep it away from heat. it'll also help with vapor lock. I was a Porsche apprentice for 3 years. My grandfather used to say" an ounce of prevention is worth a ton of peace of mind" Be safe Be well Have fun.
Living close to nature is the best ! Beautiful, fun-filled video with scenery that dreams are made of . Canada , my birthplace --- deeply rooted in my heart . Thanks for this journey .
I'm from Victoria. Sorry about the ignorant laws and tickets that punish guests to our island. Wish I was following your story earlier as you could have stayed with us.
Your o-rings likely failed because of the use of ethanol in our fuel. Older cars often have issues running with this fuel. I run 94 octane in my old stuff as it does not contain ethanol. Problem is 94 is much more expensive. Love your videos. Brianne Bowser Vancouver Island
so here in canada is actual the 3rd time leah joins the combi crew and who knows how long she'll stay this time.... lol how bout till death do you part? who knew!
Canada is a big ticket trap. I feel you about hose ticket . Ridiculous, Great video I hope you make another trip . I'm way to late watching your serie :) . This is the best serie on youtube I ever watch . I hope you a happy and adventurous life :)
Top Tip: Love the fuel injection, install a carb. Keep the old extinguisher as a backup, it was fine. More importantly, mount it/them where it can be grabbed from the drivers seat and from the living space with equal speed and ease. Extinguishers do no good when they're stored in a fukkin cabinet or drawer or in a bin etc. Once you realize the fire is happening and you need it, you got like thirty seconds to make a move to fight it or gtfo.
Been there, for Christmas one year. Easy to find out what happened. I found a video news story about one of the pilots on about the third link I checked. "Retired Royal Canadian Air Force Pilot Officer Clarence Sartorius was just 20 years old when he and 11 other people crashed in their Canso 11007 near Tofino." In the video he describes how an engine failed on takeoff and they crashed in the trees.
You found the trail! Not sure if you saw the ponds at the bottom, but they are actually crates from where the detonated the mines that were on that plane.
To prevent that engine part from giving you trouble again you might want to try strapping two zip ties around it. This will keep it securely held together when those rivets give out. You shouldnt have to go through all this trouble, but sometimes you have to do what you have to do ya know? Thanks for all the great videos of your adventures!
Its a city, once you get out of Victoria you are pretty much free to camp where you like within reason. It is expensive to live here though but its worth it.
Frank Wright I live in the neighbourhood they where camping in. The laws (and law enforcement) are so ridiculous. Small-mindedness is one of the downsides to living in Victoria BC. Sad to see this shake-down happen near me.
Sorry you had such a shit experience in Victoria... It's not reflective of the rest of the island. I've never been hassled in the van. The north half ( naniamo up) has so much more to offer when it comes to a free lifestyle. Tofino can be expensive if you let it... but there are several free to $15 a night options, great for a few weeks of surfing. Us locals are pretty easy to get along with... a beer or two and you will know all the best spots ( well maybe second best spots ;)
We call BC Bring Cash. The unfortunate thing about Vancouver island is that a lot of it is inaccessible so that parts that are accessible are usualy private or protected. Where were you camping? $25 seems about normal for national parks, $15 is average other places. But sometimes you pay more for fire permits. And good luck if you pull up to a private campground. You pay whatever they want to charge.
In 1989 my family's folks wagon van burned on our move from Alberta to BC and almost all of our possessions burned. No one hurt but close call as my mother grabbed her wallet only the corners of the hundreds were burned. Wich I believe was all my family had at that time. I was 9 or 10.
I am sorry about all the tickets, geez! You would think a van with Chile plates would have been more interesting for the police to talk to you than to fine you!!! That makes me pissed. I am so glad that you got to see some of my lovely island, Tofino would have been one of the places I would have told you about. Lots of hippies up island and I'm sure 90% of them would have loved to have let you stay on their property. I have friends all up and down the island that would have loved to have helped you enjoy it more than getting freakin' tickets!!! I am really bummed about that guys. I know it's a long time ago but if you ever get this way again, please get in touch somehow. I was wondering when Leah came back on board and now I know! I love you both and look forward to 2.0!!
Hey guys! I'm moving from Ontario to Victoria, BC in a few weeks. In a dream world I'd love to live the van life, travel around and surround myself with the best people and live off the land but sadly I feel I have to work my shitty monday-friday gig. Moving to Victoria because I have a friends there and it seems like a good starting point to venture off. Ideally I want to buy a home in the woods. It'll be my first time driving across Canada (I've only driven across NZ and made some wild friends) but do you guys have any suggestions on where to stop along the way? I was thinking of choosing wherever there were hostels available in BC and going from there. Would love some advice!
It is quite funny, that i did pass you on a parking spot, when you where inn Tofino and i said "Hola" to you guys as i saw your chilean number plates on your combi. :)
Just curious Vancouver Island is great and all but why would you go to Victoria if you want to camp? Just go on the mainland and you'll have no problem out side of the cities.
I'm taking a 2 weeks vacation right now and I wanted to come stay with y'all but couldn't get ahold of you I really wanted to meet Alaska now I'm doing a solo trip to Colorado
ahw help! im so confused, this episode contains alot of material from the upload dated on juli 2015. i recognized a few moments so looked it up :) are the actual episodes filmed in 2015?
The only fighting in north America(and as far as I know olso south America) during the second world war Was the Aleutian islands. So I am guessing on a flight south to the lower 48 they never quit made it....? Oh and they built the Alaska highway through Canada during the war.
tons of free camping on van isle it's just the south island is played out, anyone looking for free camping on van isle drive a few hours north after getting off the ferry..
I don't understand why you were using a tent when you've got a campervan? I'm considering stealth camping in a much more descrete van. Do you think I'd get away with it?
For short term and in the combi over night try in the Walmart parking lot, as you get further north there are unserviced campgrounds that are more or less free and try whining, cops are often understanding of poor hippie VW tourists. Canada can be hellishly expensive.
Damnit, I just understood, that you have more adventure in one episode, than I had in.. at least a year, could be 2... life of an office plankton, not that exciting after all, who knew?=)
Oh come on. Could you possibly make a better video?!?! I'll never get anywhere if this is what I have to compete with. Great Video guys. Hope to see you out on the road somewhere.
Sorry you had that experience in Victoria... that place is notorious for its "N.I.M.B.Y.s"... probably because it is the warmest city in Canada and has a huge homeless population. You would have better luck "up island" or further north up Vancouver Island... excluding the wealthy tourist meccas of Tofino and Ucluelet.
Next Episode (BC to ALBERTA): ruclips.net/video/hkNjDjGGqaw/видео.html&ab_channel=KombiLife
Kombi Life did you get the chance to take the ferry up in northern Vancouver island If so how was it

YESYESYES!! what he said. Also mount it in arms reach. See my other comment
If only they listened to this at first...

Thank you for making such great videos. Every one of them is more professional than the last! 👍👍👍

Another wonderful video. Sad to see some leave, welcome new.
Loved BC. I think I was on that lift in Whistler years ago in the summer. Great journey.
Amazing to see you guys driving on roads that I've driven on before. Thank you for visiting Vancouver!
yewww, going on a very similar vanlife roadie through BC this summer starting in 2 weeks - so stoked!
How did it go? I leave for a solo 10 day trip through BC in just under 2 months, I'll take all the pointers i can get.
Lots of free camping on Vancouver Island......I would rather pay $28 bucks then get a $200 TICKET....glad you had a great time. Cheers

Great road trip video.. Another milestone cover.... 👏👍😀
You found the trail! Not sure if you saw the ponds at the bottom, but they are actually crates from where the detonated the mines that were on that plane.
I remember living just south of Seattle when those fires happened sending smoke down from Canada.
To prevent that engine part from giving you trouble again you might want to try strapping two zip ties around it. This will keep it securely held together when those rivets give out. You shouldnt have to go through all this trouble, but sometimes you have to do what you have to do ya know? Thanks for all the great videos of your adventures!
good idea Henry, thanks
I live on Vancouver island it was great seeing them explore the area where I lived and been interesting
At last! I've waited too long for the next episode.
more coming soon we promise. We're off grid right now working hard on the next 2 - 3 episodes
That's funny I live in Victoria and I saw them when they were here but I hadn't known anything about them
Bummed I wasn't able to catch you guys! Enjoy B.C!
Amazing to see this episode on the island my home land!
Love your content! You've inspired me to travel the world :)
ridiculous fees and tickets. they really want everyone to stick to their cubicle at work.
do the "homeless" get fined for setting up tents in city parks?

um the Walmart on the island is great to camp. also camp sites run $15 to $30 a night. I stealth camped with no problems.
I'm sorry you had such bad luck in Victoria! It's a beautiful place and yes, campground fees are crazy on the Island....
In 1989 my family's folks wagon van burned on our move from Alberta to BC and almost all of our possessions burned. No one hurt but close call as my mother grabbed her wallet only the corners of the hundreds were burned. Wich I believe was all my family had at that time. I was 9 or 10.
So, I guess you didn't pay the tickets. LOL
When you get to Fairbanks, Alaska you must stop at our local bar on the river called the Boatel for some brew...
Wanderer Living In Alaska Photography they have already finished the trip.
Thanks and shucks :)

We were in Victoria 4 weeks ago and you will be happy to know that those seals at Fishermans Wharf are still trying to get food from the tourists.
Two things. This is like google earth with people and that is one well traveled dog.
I'm 300lbs, have a hairy back, a limp and lisp. Will you pick me up?

Great video,keep them coming.
I've seen other canadian based van life youtubers try to sleep in residential areas, with windows covered. They seem to be doing okay with it.
I know it's a little late,but welcome to Canada!
I would travel in the VW Bus ANYWHERE with him. He is cute as heck.
next time you're on the island, I can probably set you up with some places to park.

Yikes! Those are some expensive fees.
Did you go through the frase valley. It is very nice here in the summer!
Looks fantastic!
Another great video keep on camping
It's so hard for me watching all these people come and go. Sarah was so cool

Where is the place where you jumped in the water and swim in a kind of natural pool near Whistler at 12:15? Does anyone knows?
I've heard it said that BC stands for Bring Cash...but it sure is beautiful for those who have lots of it
ahw help! im so confused, this episode contains alot of material from the upload dated on juli 2015. i recognized a few moments so looked it up :) are the actual episodes filmed in 2015?
You should have travelled further north on Vancouver island (Campbell river and up) its much cheaper and there are more cool spots to explore.

I live in Victoria this was awesome!!
HEY YOU BUILD A RAFT LIKE THIS BEFORE !!!!
Get those spare parts on board yet?
Weird. I've been drifting around BC for a few summers now. Never paid a single dollar to sleep.
you should make a montage of every time your car broke down
Victoria island is beautiful. I wanna join you guys to alaska im from california. Lets make it happen
Wow, I though UK camp fees were bad - and fined $200 for each offense, not what I would expect from Canada :-(
morethan4mph it's not like that everywhere. In fact it's not like that in most parts
Sweet video
I don't understand why you were using a tent when you've got a campervan? I'm considering stealth camping in a much more descrete van. Do you think I'd get away with it?
COOL
Word of advice from a local... avoid Victoria, it's a tourist trap. Go north and there are many free campsites off the beaten path...

Yeah wish she stayed for longer
I find Quebec and Ontario the nicest
Beautiful place! Have you seen the local pod of killer whales? Gorgeous!!

Lived on Vancouver Island my whole life and I agree, the laws and bylaws are FUCKED
16:45 So the van caught fire?
No, they burnt some toast.
Dude my cousin works as a pilot for tofino air

Oh come on. Could you possibly make a better video?!?! I'll never get anywhere if this is what I have to compete with. Great Video guys. Hope to see you out on the road somewhere.
Go to Hope B.C in a next video
You gotta get out of city into the Bush. I'm ashamed of our laws. I find logging roads myself or remote beaches.
