I was too dum to know I didn't know it shouldn't be that way. Praise God for what you went through that has blessed millions of families with the lessons God has allowed you to learn and teach for us all to do money as God has commanded. I'm still in baby step 2 but there was once recently at the grocery store a young family with 3 little ones at the self checkout you could tell they were struggling to figure out what they should leave behind. I was able to help them. On my way out the checkout employee was by the door so i gave her cash to give that family advising her I know what it is to struggle please give them this gift. It was in God's hands to make sure it got to them but i am sure it did. the employee seemed a little surprised also.what a joy.I can't wait until I can do that more with true intent. What a joy it will be and hopefully I can bring my grandkids with me so they can also be apart of the joy of giving God gives.

We are one small balance away from being consumer debt free so we can start funding our emergency fund.
Then we’ll get with an investor pro to see what we can do to invest the 15%.
We are also selling 3 out of our 4 rentals and will be inheriting my share of the sale of my recently deceased daddy’s 2 rental properties.

They'll prescribe PTSD for ANYTHING these days! I mean, for things that cause extreme stress, like abuse or war, that I get, but, frick man, I had a shrink try to tell me I had PTSD from living with my hoarder grandfather for a bit. No, what I have, now, is a particular determination to never live in conditions remotely like that again. Yes, it was technically trauma, but the result was a simple change in behavior due to experience! Grief is stressful, yeah, but I've lost some of my best friends in the WORLD, had to go to work the next day and hide in a closet to cry when it got to me. You can lay off work for a couple weeks or maybe months if you need to, but grief is not an excuse to stop working permanently and is rarely an actual cause of PTSD.

I've lived under a lot of stress most of my adult life. 18 years ago, at 46, I went through a divorce that VERY few divorced people could even remotely relate to. The next 4 years I can only describe as ptsd or 4 years of drug withdrawals. I have no doubt that the worst thing that will ever happen to me already has. The agony of that time still wakes me up most nights. The 2 biggest things that held my life together were a full time job and a home based business on the side. Once a week at a very good therapist and an opportunity to meet my soulmate were #3 and 4 on the list. I still have to stay busy to keep from collapsing into that dark hole. These people need to work and learn to deal with life.

I hope you're right but as someone who lost their partner to dementia, there are worse things than even a hellish divorce. I get it.. Been 11.5 years and I'm still not divorced but my PTSD is still triggered regularly. Caring for an ill partner is worse. I hope that's the worst you will be through but please prepare yourself for if it's not.

@@laundrygoddess4 You've obviously been through and continue to go through a terrible trauma. It was not my intention to compare my trauma to others'. I don't know if everyone goes through the kind of life altering trauma that we have gone through. I suspect not. You lost someone dear to you through dementia although you speak of "not divorced yet after 11.5 years". I permanently lost all access to my children because of an extremely hostile passive aggressive narcissistic sociopath. She got away with creating the narrative that I was the one that was dangerous. Angry as hell, yes. The reality is that she was the only one that had never been abused, except in her childhood. She held me responsible for the things her dad did and created 2 kids that now hate me the same way she hated her dad. I'll likely never see either if them again.
Your @ name suggests that maybe you see yourself trapped in a perpetual state of servitude. I have a very good life today and am surrounded by people that value me but there is always pain that lies just below the surface. @@msparr01 my name was a joke as I had two kids in cloth diapers and was constantly doing laundry but was very good at getting stains out. Don't make stuff up. My ex is a clinically diagnosed sociopath who won't let me get divorced because then he would have to pay child support. He convinced people I was a child abuser and had munchausen by proxy and had my kids taken away and put into foster care. Cfs wouldn't put my kids in his care because they knew he was lying and incompetent. Took me over a year to get my kids, both autistic and now traumatized, back. I went through hell and back with him. A year after I left him and his abuse I met the love of my life. I watched him suffer with dementia for 7 years before his passing. I'm saying from my experience, Dealing with dementia is worse than child and ex issues because with kids you always have hope that things can change. My daughter hates me and my ex has convinced her everything is my fault. She refused to read the reports that prove its his. I get it. Truly. But dealing with dementia is horrifying. 40% of caregivers die before their loved ones because of how hard it is. No matter how hard something is, there is always something worse out there. Always.

I disagree with the conclusion they stated about bonds being just as risky as equities as it is intellectually dishonest. If you hold them as investments to sell in the open market to make money off of the sale, then yes, what they said is very true. However, they are blatantly overlooking the other features of bonds that make them low risk and 95% of the time why you would invest in bonds. You 99.99% of the time (unless you are in junk bonds) get your face back and the periodic coupon payments every year. They allow for cash flow management and generate fixed income. The value of a bond (or any security) is irrelevant unless you are wanting to sell it. Should you invest 100% in bonds? No, but they have a place in portfolios.

Full sympathy to the first caller but I find it weird that he kept stalling the advice by saying he wasn’t concerned about money but I’m sure his opening statement and reason for the call was “how do we survive with no jobs” or “what should we do?” Or words to that effect.. why did he call if he isn’t worried about money?

Blowing 1.2M dollars, or 500K, or whatever it was for the sake of it bothers me. Yes, he deserves to enjoy the fruits of his labor AND why not do something to leave a legacy, too? Why not leave chunk to his college alma mater as a scholarship fund, or donate to non-profits doing fantastic work in his community? Maybe it was edited out but I'm surprised this wasn't a suggestion given Dave's value system.

Dave gave wrong advice to the landscaping business guy. He told him to pay himself and make estimated tax payments on that amount. The guy said he has a LLC so he files a Sch C. Distributions aren’t taxable, the income is. So if his net income is 250k like he said then he needs to pay 25% on that amount not the distributions. If he does what Daves suggested, he’ll be grossly underpaid on estimated tax payments.

Reverse mortgage without a payment requirement is a foreclosure risk? I'm very confused on the advice of spending the money that's still growing 1st. Idk but seems like if all that's required of you in a reverse mortgage is the taxes you already have to pay I'd do that or at least sell and downsize....idk about that advice at all

I don't know why the Ramey personalities think couples with separate accounts Venmo each other. It's more like someone pays for lunch today, and the other gets it another time. No one's counting. Also one party pays one utility bill and the other pays another. It could be shared in a balanced way or according to who earns more or whatever the couple choose.

Also they don’t even pay their own housing expenses, rely on a family situation for that. They need to grow up.

No, it is not hypocritical. Some folks need a tool to help them. AGREED, it does not need to be EveryDollar. The money to cover the cost can always be found in the budget by decreasing or stopping other unnecessary purchases or subscriptions.

@@dianem4188 They get plenty of "thanks" - royalties from all the book sales they push, and every endorsed local provider and financial planner PAYS the RS people to promote them. Once you use the free version, there is always a marketing push to get the paid version, too. These folks market everything constantly. They're doing fine financially.

Way too over generalised. As a husband to a wife who's gone through panic attacks and anxiety attacks. They are NO joke. She was EXTREMELY debilitated. To just say "Suck it up" is NOT helpful in that stage.
