when classically trained musicians decide to do rock music and put that rock back into the classical. This is the result. Yes, Edvard was impressed too.
In the song, they're not eating him. They've captured him to force him to marry the Mountain King's daughter, which the guy doesn't want. The night before the wedding, he sneaks his ways through the palace's hallways, is spotted and epically chased down the corridors until he manages to reach the exit and, after almost being caught, make an hurried, fear-fuelled final rush towards freedom.
Klassische Musik! Am Arsch, Scheisse hart war das. Die Plätze waren sofort besetz weil so viele Leute draussen gewartet hatten. Genial.
This makes me proud to be a cellist. My cello teacher gave me the music to this for me and my friends to play at a concert. Hopefully, we don't ruin the song. (I'm playing Paavo's part, guy with short hair).
Perfect. Can't be better. This piece of music was arranged a lot of times and by lot of bands, persons - including Ritchie Blackmore -, but this one is the maximum. This is THE MUSIC - with fire in it. Thank You Finnish Friends! A drummer from Hungary
this is their best performance of this song, the soloist didn't play that bad this time, and it was the closest they came to the original recording! FUKIN AWESOME!!!
THAT WAS AWESOME!!!! I am a stone Metal Head and like my hero, Bruce Duckinson of Iron Maiden, an avowed fan of Classical Music. There are many pieces of classical music that relate directly to Metal. The Hall of the Mountain King is definitely one of them. Try listening to Wagner, that'll kick your ass too! Thank you Apocalyptica!!!!
I love how they are totally rocking out to it when it's so classical. We're playing this in my band class, but it doesn't sound this awesome. lol ... So Awesome ... Makes me want to learn how to play cello. lol
AS a fan of Grieg and Classical music I have to say these dudes give a whole new spin on the genre I find awesome. Their version of Heavy Metal is itself badass. In music originality is not to common but these guys set their own "bar" pretty high in deed !
In addition to their musicianship, I can only admire their sense of aesthetics and the talent to not get their hair caught up in the bow and strings. Speaking from personal experience, easier said than done... but hey, that patch of hair will grow back. Eventually.
Anybody who says this sucks is on glue! These guys are rediculously awesome and I can only imagine what it actually sounded like being there. Anyone is welcome to attempt to post something better
first of all, i thought some band was playing for the background until about 2:01 then i realized it was only 4 instruments played by these 4 genius!! genius, really. i don't even know what to say - literally dumbfounded till the end of the song.
It's Norway's National Musical Hero: Edvard Grieg. This song is part of the so-called Peer Gynt-suite, a series of musical poems based on a Norse Myth about another hero, Peer Gynt (pronounce: Pèr Guunt).
I love it when he says "For the final, we will punish you with classical music !"
The ladies squealing with enthusiasm made my day too ...
I met Perttu after their concert in Toronto on April 30. =D
Love the original and love this cover. The metal adds an extra dose of frantic madness to an already wonderfully hectic peice of music.

Just happens to be one of my all time classical favorites and these dudes put a twist on it the Grieg would have loved !!!!!!!!!!!!

How young all of you are here. I just discovered Apocalyptica a month or so ago, and each song I listen to astounds me even more.
