  • UPDATE - NOV 2023: Due to an ACE3 update, the function of the map tool is slightly different. The line that appears will be solid and thin, much like a normal drawn line on the map. The method to get your straight line remains the same.
    This video is purposed to help those who struggle with Land Navigation in Arma 3 Milsim, specifically how to triangulate your position and find 8-digit grid coordinates with the Map Tool from the Ace mod. I hope you learn something new.

    This might be the cleanest, most comprehensible to the point video about land navigation basics I have seen so far and I could not have explained or demonstrated it any better.
    Not sure how I got here and why I watched this since it's old news to me but spot on dude.

    I don't really play Arma any more, but I've been upping my map reading and land navigation skills IRL recently. This is a great little explanation, I might even download Arma and Ace again so I can practice at home!

    Great video and explanation, but there was no need to draw a second line, your location became immediately clear. When you have drawn the first line, you can orient yourself on the high point of the ridge on the right

      Good point. Might be useful if you only have 1 reference point to go off of. ;D

      The point of triangulation (in the video's case, its Bi-angulation and not triangulation, since he used only 2 reference vectors) is to try get the most accurate position in the map, usually for marking artillery spot, or small objects within the grid.
      But if all you need is a quick general location of where you are, usually biangulation and terrain estimation should be fine

    How do I build a land navigation course? I want to set up about 15 waypoints were a candidate finds a sign with a code on it (A1, B2, etc) and proceeds to the next waypoint until the candidate finds his four or five points and completes the training? My zeus skills are minimal, my scripting skills are nonexistent. Need help.

    Any way to find 10 digit grid coords?

    • @SirTickleTots
      @SirTickleTots  Год назад +1

      Not easily if you don't use a MicroDagr. Since 10 digit grids are 1 meter square, its next to impossible to accurately find and mark those on the paper map.
      But with the MicroDagr hooked up to the Vector 21, you can find the 10 grid and elevation of visible target pretty conveniently.

      Make sure that you have the vanilla arma map in your map slot, if that doesn't work insure that you have your key binds correct and that a map tool is in your inventory.

    tho they are radians not milliradians

    • @SirTickleTots
      @SirTickleTots  Год назад +5

      No a radian is a unit of angle that's equal to about 57 degrees; 3.14 radians equals 180 degrees and 2*Pi radians is a whole circle, 360 degrees. Each of the lines on the outer dial are in milliradians, 6400 milradians to 360 degrees.
      You're not wrong because its like comparing Meters to Millimeters, but no one says aim the gun at 0.093 Radians.
