He just wanted to better the situation with his family at the start then the moment he entered the arena to get Seamus out, he never truly left the arena. To be fair, in the book though, it´s quite clear that Snow is a bad, two-faced, self-serving, condescending and controlling person from the start. Like the whole time we're kinda meant to hope that he is falling in love with Lucy Gray and that they have this amazing love story but at the same time we can see that Snow is selfish and only cares about himself. Even though he presents himself as sincere, charming, level-headed and well-meaning to the rest of world, his inner monologue makes it clear he only does so in order to gain something from it. He despised Sejanus and his family, never trusted Lucy Gray and was extreamely possessive of her, even thinking it was better for her to be in the arena than being free in District 12 where he couldn´t control her and know where she was. He never said what he really thought, didn't trust anybody and never loved without conditions, not even his family (we can see what he thinks of his own grandmother and we know what will happen to Tigris). The point of the book was to show he had many opportunities to do the right thing, but the ending shows that in reality he is in fact an evil person and was evil all along.

@@emilyau8023 Yeah, I also think the movie Snow worked just fine, but it´s always possible that he can appear different for those who haven't read the book (I think it was ModernGurlz who made a good movie review where she talked about this if you´re interested), kind of like in the first HG movie to some it seemed like Katniss was actually falling for Peeta instead of pretending for the sake of survival. But without any inner monologues that were crucial in the books, it can be hard to tell what the characters _truly_ think and mean.

At some point he did love her. It was posessive, unhealthy love that was almost equal with the need of ownership. I feel like that was the point of the book: that love sometimes isnt enough, you need to sacrifice your own ambitions for another person and he couldnt do that.

i love this so much!! your editing and text is just stunning. them with this song is just heartbreaking, it’s perfect for them! and i absolutely agree with your caption!! the love was there and i think it’s one of the most important things about the story. snow loved lucy and she loved him but that didn’t change anything! especially for his characterization it’s so important. like he was surrounded by good people who loved him (lucy, tigris, sejanus) but no amount of love could have prevented who he became in the end. and that’s just part of the big tragedy! love doesn’t always conquer all :/

I agree, but I may add that sometimes toxic narcissist influence of people in authority (Like Dr Gaul, or Coriolanus' father) has great influence, an it is not easy to break out from such a trauma bond. God help everyone in such situation. Great video, wonderful book and movie.
If you haven't read the book, It makes this song so much stronger and meaningful. Lucy Gray's and Coryo's love story fits so well with this song, especially the ending, dividing Snow. I wished the film wasn't so rushed, but tbf Part 3 there was alot.
Poor Lucy. I don't care what anyone says, he was a horrible person. Had time and time again to make the right choice, but didn't. And his friend was so kind, but unfortunately made friends with him.

It was always about him. He didn't actually care about his family struggling. He hated how that made him look lesser.
