Zach, this song was a turning point for them. This is kanami song she wrote it and from this moment forward. All band maid songs are composed by the band
This song is both loved and special. This is the first song composed entirely by the band itself that the label accepted and put on their 3rd album. Ever since the band has had full control of their music. It's a seminal moment for the band. While they would collaborate with writers they had worked with in the past, it was always by their choice going forward.
Once they were left "Alone" by their record / management companies to create what they wanted, well... look what they did. Alone's somewhat sad, heavy yet empowering story (topics Miku's known for writing about), up against Kanami's up-tempo, complex yet rockin' music is quintessential Band-Maid. BAND-MAID is an important influence and contributor to the music industry with a continuous, growing worldwide fanbase. But to me, they are just the best sounding, best writers of hard rock music, and the most fun, joyous group of musicians to come along since the Beatles! Thx, Zack!
It's actually the first song Kanami composed _that was allowed to be released on an album and single._ It's the song that proved to their label that they deserved creative control of their own music. It's a fun early-mid 00's pop-punk song that then explodes at the solo and let's Akane go bananas after Kanami.
Love this song, love this video and of course love Queen Kanami solo, one of the best and longest her solos! Bend Maid is the best!!! Thanks for your reaction.
Great reaction and analysis and yes, the last song you hear is your new best song. This one is special due to being the very first song that the band wrote that was included on an album. This really gives an early indication of their signature sound.
Miku did have a bit of a rough childhood. Hopefully someone will fill you in on the details.Just no time right now. But she's one tough Pigeon ,PO!!!!!🕊🍌🍻☕⚾
Thanks for the reaction and comments. I call the "special sauce" you're referring to as the Kanami effect. Always tasteful, brilliantly placed and masterfully performed. Cheers!
This one strikes me as a late nineties, early 2000’s alt pop rock. Feels like it could’ve been a radio hit back then, except for the Japanese lyrics. It took me a few listens to really like it. A “grower.” I learned about the historical significance much later. If this was the first song approved by their label, I can only wonder what was passed over! This isn’t some simple three chord ditty. There are plenty of songwriting chops here.
They performed Alone live as song 3 of the Yokohama Arena 10th Anniversary show. Worth getting the Blu-ray. Did you notice that bit where half the verse was just Saiki and Akane, no guitars!
Zack, just a suggestion. Become a member on Band-Maid Prime and view their individual instrumental videos. You'll appreciate their musicianship even more. Akane has a self cover of Alone.
Top 5 Band-Maid song. And Kanami can improvise whenever she wants. She composes all the music. EDIT: They tour the US almost every year. Saw them live twice last year.
She CAN improvise, but she prefers not to. I think it's due to her nature of a very meticulous and well-organized person, who loves to plan everything ahead. I think it's actually that feature of Kanami's nature which makes BAND-MAID such a great band live. They prefer to compose everything beforehand and then rehearse it a hundred times, to make it perfectly polished. Of course, it gives a much better result than composing extemporaneously. Because if this, I am always reluctant to speak of Kanami as a "guitarist." Of course, she is a great guitarist, but it's maybe 20% of her identity. The rest is composer, arranger, driving force in BAND-MAID's music, and many more. I remember Robert Fripp said this about Jimmy Hendrix, that he is not a guitarist, but a man who wanted to say something, and then he stood and said it. I feel the same about Kanami. I compare in my head Kanami with HAL-CA from ASTERISM. HAL-CA is really a guitarist. She can improvise like no other, I was shocked to see her in some jam sessions, where she plays something, and then says that it was pure improvisation. But how, that is a complete well-polished song! Not just a jazz-style solo or something like that, but a completely new melody which just came to her mind right now, and she played it. That's a very rare ability, and she probably developed it as well, since ASTERISM is only three-piece band, and they can just improvise all the time, and it will sound good. With guitar, bass, and drums, there is no risk of awkward collisions even if they play whatever comes to their minds right now. That's why HAL-CA is the best guitarist in the world and MIYU is the best bassist, but Number One band in the world is BAND-MAID. Because BAND-MAID plans things and polishes the performance until it's perfect. Even carefully planning the moments of chaos when the whole song seems to be crumbling into a mayhem, only to emerge from it triumphantly a moment later, like that moment in DOMINATION live after Akane's solo.
She writes alot about cheating, wanting to cheat, being cheated on and not caring if you (i) cheat in relationships. Very different from many male bands who write about just getting the girls, fame, and parties
I love seeing the comments from all of these self-appointed PR spokespersons and salesman's for the group ! I love what these five incredible musicians do. But never have I saw a group. Where at times the fan base is very difficult to stomach.

This is when BAND-MAID became BAND-MAID for real!

I've heard it live. It's great hearing everyone in the crowd sing the "Ohhs," and Kanami's solo really pops off in person.

Kanami's solo here and in "Daydreaming" are my favorites. She also does stellar guitar work in "Blooming". Check 'em out.
One of Kanami's best solos. To me, this is where Band Maid truly begins. Great reaction as always. Rock on 🤘
This is definitely one of my favorite's!
Love this song, love this video and of course love Queen Kanami solo, one of the best and longest her solos! Bend Maid is the best!!! Thanks for your reaction.
This is my favourite song. Thanks Zack! 🙂
The 5 songs in my top 3 are:
alone
Manners
Take me Higher
Anemone/Ansan
from now on
Sayonakidori
Rinne
Daydreaming
You have good taste in music. I love this song so much as all their pop/punk songs.
Whatever any of these girls want to play you can be sure whatever they do it will fit
Great reaction and analysis and yes, the last song you hear is your new best song. This one is special due to being the very first song that the band wrote that was included on an album. This really gives an early indication of their signature sound.
3 2 1 go. 🎸
This song has consistently been in my top 5 Band Maid songs. Manners MV is still number 1.
I really enjoy your reactions.
This song is fundamental.
♥ - maybe check out *Memorable* for a kinder gentler Band Maid 😉

4:09 they employ unisons like it's nothing. 🔥
Here for Zack and the al-go!💙

Classic BAND-MAID. Akane is perfect again. 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥Peace. 31.4
I can play drums a bit, but anyone fancy trying a drum cover of this- genius. Akane came ready to go for this first Band-Maid composed song.
4:38 Minchodiddles...🥰

Hail kanami

It would be cool if Kanami's run was improvised and MISA followed exactly, but I really don't think so.
None of their solos are improvised. Even the live show new intros and extended solos are all composed.
@@armynurseboy of course not!
