    Nice and on point!
If you deploy this on a nested host, the virtual switch must be allowed for forged transmit and MAC address change, otherwise the packets will end up in the filter. For any of the sniffing features, add promiscuous mode.

I've since also learned that ESXi needs to be set to have VLAN ID 4095 to become VLAN aware as well.

Aye, it is meant for guest tagging - which is what the CHR does/needs, otherwise the vSwitch would strip the VLAN tag

Hi, I am using 4 port NIC on ESXI Standalone server, I have installed MikroTik ISO in ESXi, Port num 0 is assigning WAN ip via DHCP to MikroTik WAN, so How do I use Port 1 as LAN for other machines on my network.

Hey Steve... Nice video and was quite helpful for me to install myself and I could get everything working... Except to InterVlan with any L2 switch... I'm not able to communicate with vlans created on Mikrotik as there's no sync ... Would be nice if you could assist me with that....Chao..

Hello, glad the video helped you out. Off the top of my head I can't think what would do that, it could be to do with the way VMWare is handling your NIC. I would probably point you towards the awesome MikroTik community for further help forum.mikrotik.com/ Thanks Steve

Hi, extremely late reply but I think I have the answer for this now. You need to change the VMWare VLAN ID on the switch and port group to 4095. As standard VMWare is unaware of VLANs and using that VLAN tag will make it aware of VLAN usage.

I use CHR for VPN server only, which has only 1 LAN port, do it need to config 2 virtual NIC in order to CHR function properly?

Hey Carmine, No you do not need any additional virtual NIC's. Your VPN's will come in through your single WAN port and they will also go out via that same WAN port if you push the traffic to the web. I have an AWS VPN server doing exactly this with just an "ether1" and it works perfectly.

Hello, I have a question regarding CHR. A problem, I still haven't seen corrections. Normal operation in the installation and configuration in ESXI, but if for some reason the power goes out and when the system restarts, CHR is corrupted and it is mandatory to make a new installation. In the common installation of a computer version via iso on ESXI, it works normally even when power is missing. Have a solution? hug

No idea to be brutally honest. Sounds like the OVA is not creating the datastore correctly though. Have you tried creating the machine using an alternative datastore?

its one a most big problemen without solution... for now!!
My recomendation... get a UPS and a Generator ASAP. :)
My recomendation... keep a copy of de vmdk in datastore... if something happen.. just copy and past.

I had the same issue, rebooting the server will corrupt the Virtual Machine that was already created. I had to create scratch the CHR 3 times

Is there a way to install OpenVm Tools.. ?

With the newer versions of CHR OpenVM Tools are already included. I think it was introduced in 6.42 version.

Hi there! What if we dont have a mikrotik account would the software out of date or becoming slow? btw what are system ID and level mean ? how many Level like free or anything else ? thx

If you don't tie it to an account you will get 1Mb in one direction. MikroTik accounts are free so why wouldn't you? Once registered you get 60 days use on your chosen account before it stops your ability to upgrade. The CHR will continue working regardless at full speed from then on. Again, why wouldn't you?
System ID is the auto generated number that the CHR uses to identify itself to MikroTik and your account.
CHR levels are P1, P10 and Punlimited, full explanation here wiki.mikrotik.com/wiki/Manual:CHR
TL;DR Register a MikroTIk and it will work for free forever if you're OK with not updating RouterOS.
