Glad to see how the changes went for Charanda. I personally liked the revised version over the old story. Another great lore video.
Thanks!
I really enjoy your Lore videos. They really help those of us who have been out of the loop of Magic for a while and are just now coming back in. It doesn't help with the cards, but I always really enjoyed the stories and lore and your videos really help stoke that interest.
Keep it up.
Am I the only one who likes this one more??
Another great video, thanks Seiben :DD
Thank you for the support :p
I did like the old story because it was darker and such but i definitely do love this new one
Yeah there's nothing wrong with her new lore. It's just different in some regards.
I like both of them, but this had so much excitement as the other one had a lot more detail and is badass af!
The way i look at it both still fit, just think as the old lore as the legend being told, there stories you hear from people and books, while the new lore is what actually happened
As someone who is new to MTG but already loves chandra, I like aspects of both the new and old story for chandra but I feel like for me the original aspect of her pyromancy inanvertnetly getting her village killed was more compelling for her character and conflict with her power.
I was confused as to who you meant by Balar.
Just for clarification:
The soldier is Baral.
The pyromancer is Nalar.
Huge step down from her old lore. Her hatred towards order/white mana completely fit her and later made sense with her encounters with Gideon.
Her new story is really generic and boring. Shame, she was one of my favorite planeswalkers...
This new origin maybe more detailed than the old one. But, I think the old fit her foul tampered personality better.
Thomas Tibbs Yeah, I still find it fitting but just not as tragic. In her old story, her fire was the source of all her families death directly.
seibenlore And now the old Lore is explained by the new Lore :-D She is actually giving herself the guild. Maybe she told someone just something like: "... it's my fault." And someone told the uncomplete story about chandra. ^^
Amazing video my good sir :D
Well thank you :)
Good work man.
Thank you :)
its strange hearing my name like this.
Chandra Pizziolo how do you say it
Weirdly enough... i enjoy new Chandra storyline. It feels just a bit more cohesive and open to new possibilities than the previous version.
I hope we get a card where all 5 planeswalkers cross paths.
It's by far more fleshed out if anything for sure.
seibenlore Hope your enjoying your road trip. :)
Well done, I enjoyed this.
L3SwineFlu thank you!
Maybe the old lore is the lies and whims of Baral and this is the actual correct story . just maybe a neat way to tie them in
Okay so now that today is the official release of origins July 17. I went to the prerelease and read the lore that came with her pack. It seemed a lot like the old lore and unless I read it wrong it was pretty much the same as the old.
I enjoyed the old lore much more then the new lore. Even if the new lore has more story the old lore felt more reasonable for her to plainswalk.
Yeah it's also a lot less tragic, I mean it's still tragic but not as much as it was.
I agree
Alexander Pelletier I think they tried to make this one more... "politically correct" or something like that, anyways is not a bad story
Alexander Pelletier But to be honest, people killing pyromancers by "burning them alive" kinda had no sense, and yes, those monks where from Regatha
Any chance you put subtitles on the future videos?
Her card is nice.
Anyone else think Chandra was adorable as a kid?
I think they wanted her to be a little less evil compared to her old story.
I prefered the old version, sadly. I think that in Magic Origins they try too much to make the original planeswalker look good. Chandra especially lose some of her stuborness and gain some ''robin wood'' background to make her look like a good girls. What I liked about mtg lore is that there is very fiew real ''good'' planeswalker. Dack Fayden is a tief, Venser messed up really bad, Tamiyo did nothing to help the people of Innistrad, etc...everybody has something unclean but i feel like wizards try to draw the line between good and evil planeswalker. (God dammit they made Narset! The purest little girl ever!)
This new lore is not as good as the original. Chandras hatred towards order, aka white does not fit into it. The captain lied and cheated, and that is in conflict with the virtues of white mana. They are "absolute and just", but never corrupt.
Dos that mean that she caused a world fire when she activated her spark
You don't think maybe the retkahn had effects outside of tarkier do you?
I really doubt it. Wizards of the Coast has said that the time travel stuff only impacted tarkir, the rest of the multiverse stayed the same.
seibenlore but ugin is not to be seen anywhere in the plane according to the fatpack guide in sarkhan's and it says that sarkhan believes he went out into the multiverse either to intervene in other planes
seibenlore this is how it goes
"Ugin is not present on Tarkir in this time, but Sarkhan takes heart knowing that his intervention enabled the dragon planeswalker to attend to threats on other planes"end quote-
Sarkhan's Profile last paragraph first sentence
seibenlore and the time travel was not to affect outside of tarkir but wats within tarkir can affect the outside put piece with piece their would be another fight and many spoiled plans but way will be funny is a set filled with all planeswalkers in existence in an all out battle helping ugin or nicol but that will never happen so just listen to the top part
Personally I liked the past origins better, those were more dark actually.
I cringed at Chandra being sent on an anti-establishment mission at that young age, at the whole "horned beast in da woods" crap and her parents being too clichè.
I do think her story has become "popularized" and has lost a lot of its edge.
Okay so I'm thinking since the events of fate reforged changed tarkir maybe it affect the multiverse of magic thus why chandlar's history got tweaked
Would be a cool theory, but wotc said that the time travel stuff stayed confined to Tarkir only.
seibenlore I didn't know I was just thinking because it didn't stay to tarkir then it would be a great way to bring back "dead" planes walkers and also you new fnl video on ojtaui had its comments blocked
Good job but now this give the one Chandra I thought was fake a chance to be real
It seems like they were just trying to make her more sympathetic. i dont mind the new story tho. Steam punk plain... yes. sign me up.
So, the goggles come from her father then?
I want a Ragatha set
maybe after the new Dominaria set that comes after Ixalan
i think shes a robot (:
shes annies from league of legends twin sister i sware
She's a pretty good planeswalker. Does anyone know where I can get a Sarkhan, dragonsoul deck in Canada?
Please let this plane be the next bock yay steam punk
Spencer Slattery the hype would be so real if it were.
hahah i knew it!! told ya seiben!!! about a year ago... that it wasent certain chandra mother died even though you claim so and now she is a spoiler in kaladesh xD
So much retconning >_< But in either case, her lore is much better than previously.
More detail is always better.
Hi I'm Charles
Hello there Charles.
Hi charley
Auto correct is my own demise
Hello
could it have changed because of Sarkhan Vol's time travel to save Ugin, the Spirit Dragon and if so then what else changed your comment Seiben .
This is really late, but wow that makes lots of sense!
So, Chandra, The Genericfirewalkerofeverystorywithapyromancerever, is pretty boring, but the plane she came from seems pretty fkin cool.
LikeGodzzila I agree, I want to go there so badly lol.
seibenlore I mean, Mirrodin, Ravnica AND Innistrad all at once? I'm in.
LikeGodzzila Well, iher story is much better as far as motivational/emotional side goes compared to old one, while not changing important events (grudge against authority kiling their peers, etc.). She is much less generic than she was, while essence of hero stays, while home become far less forced black and white generic unnamed pulp than it was :)
korrul Chandra is pretty much the most generic Red Mana Walker they could come up with, let's be honest... Every story since ever in a fantasy world has the guy that shoots flames, and in every story since ever, when that character is a girl, she has her head on fire and more likely than not, has some aviator goggles.
It's the defaultest of the defaultest for "guys that control fire and stuff"...
I'm still of the opinion that she should get steam rolled by eldrazis and be replaced by Koth or maybe even Tibalt, but that's unlikely.
The plane she came from tho, seems pretty cool, so that's a plus... I guess...
I'm actually interested when the trope became so popular - it seems like ever, but Steampunk wasn't a super popular thing before ~2010, as I'm checking.
Nevertheles - being basic PW for the colour she is destined to be a trope looking like a trope. Magic colours are designed to be easy relatsble, and basic planeswalkers should be too. Even if they wanted, they couldn't change that - too much retconning.
BUT - the story gives her some real, well, story, cause this at least is something. Previous one sounded like desperately coughed up in "Orcs killed my family" style. No she can have direction, and her story can, if they do it right, ascend the trope, just a little bit.
Speaking of which - changing her from outcast to person with deep connection to family and her roots, and with real flaws is pretty big. Appearance is secondary when judging a hero.
i like the new version better but she has to go back to home plane or this version fall flat
I would be stocked to go to Kaladesh
not a fan of the new lore
