Clearwater Beach includes a resort area and a residential area on the Gulf of Mexico in Pinellas County on the west central coast of Florida. Just west over the Intracoastal Waterway by way of the Clearwater Memorial Causeway from the city of Clearwater, Florida, of which it is part, Clearwater Beach is located at a geographic latitude is 27.57 N and longitude 82.48 W. The average local temperature is 73 °F (23 °C), with fall and spring being the most comfortable seasons. In January 2013, Clearwater Beach was awarded the designation of Florida's Best Beach Town by a reader poll from USA Today readers. It competed against nine other Florida beach destinations entered in the poll.
Clearwater Beach is characterized by white sand beaches stretching for 2.5 miles (4 km) along the Gulf and sits on a barrier island. It has a full marina on the Intracoastal Waterway side and is linked on the south by a short bridge to another barrier island called Sand Key, where Sand Key Park is located.
Clearwater Beach is approximately 20 miles (30 km) from Tampa International Airport and 25 miles (40 km) from downtown Tampa. It offers shopping, restaurants, and activities such as parasailing, jet ski rentals, boat tours (with a common sighting of dolphins in the Gulf waters), miniature golf, fishing charters, and "pirate ship" cruises.
Pier 60, named for State Road 60 which terminates in Clearwater Beach, is a central spot for beachgoers and has a playground, a snack bar with attached souvenir shop, and a long fishing pier. It's the site of a daily event called Sunsets at Pier 60, which includes street performers and musical acts. On the pier itself is a nightly display of goods sold by local artisans such as jewelry, candles, and other gift items.
The Clearwater Jolley Trolley has provided transportation up and down the beach since 1982. It currently runs to North Clearwater Beach and down to Sand Key, including Island Estates. Mandalay Avenue is the main drag on the north end of the beach with Gulfview Boulevard being so on the south. Both areas feature a variety of businesses.
Clearwater has frequently been ranked one of the best beaches in the U.S. Its Sandpearl resort was named one of the best beach resorts in the U.S. In 2009 an episode of Brooke Knows Best was shot on the beach

It was so much fun take that ride. I grew up in Clearwater Beach in the 60's. So much has changed but it was still fun to see some of the familiar landscape. Spent many evenings at Peir 60 with school friends It was the first place my parents let me take the car from the North end where we lived, when I got my driver's license. I thought I was something. Thanks for the ride down memory lane.

+Sherry Ewing My family used to go to Clearwater Beach in the 70s. We used to stay at The Angler motel. Do you remember it?
I wonder if you remember The Kapok Tree Inn, which I think was in the City of Clearwater itself.
Or maybe The Painted Horse, a smorgasbord restaurant also in Clearwater itself.
On Mandalay, north of Gulfview Avenue, and at spot where Mandalay either curved or made an unusual corner, there was an old hotel, which had a coconut palm tree in front. I remember this because that kind of palm doesn't usually grow that far north.
I used to walk along the beach of Clearwater Beach, until you'd get to a wild area of a few palms and other greenery, and past this, there was a large spit of white sand, which formed the northern tip of the island on which the city of Clearwater Beach was located. I could just see your friends and you partying there when you were teens. I used to have the place all to myself.
You must have had really nice teenage years.

Seriously considering moving to Clearwater. I have lived in the mountains of West Virginia all of my life and I am tired of the cold and snow. It is close to Tampa and close to all kinds of theme parks(I am huge theme park fan). Nice weather all year round and the beach is right at your doorstep. Thanks for posting a great video!

Courtney Biddle Please Google or look up “Clearwater Florida and Scientology” before you do. Just a heads up before you pack your stuff. If you’re into that then you’re all set. If not, I would avoid that town like the plague. Nice for beach vacation but get out after that.

@@Shabbado55 Definitely not into Scientology. I do realize the headquarters is there. Just thought the normal people would outnumber the Scientologists. Venice is my #1 choice so far. Thanks for the input. I appreciate it.

Courtney Biddle No problem, just want to get the word out there. This cult hurts people and separates them from families. Was there YEARS ago with my family and too young to probably notice. But doing some research they keep buying up the properties there. The “Clearwater Bank” in this video? Is now owned by them and is a recruitment center. The beach is beautiful though, the town seems really clean, almost too clean because nobody is there. Anyways, I’d go with Venice as well! 👍

Wow! Watching this video took me back! I have to navigate the streets of Clearwater Beach three to five times a week. There was sooo much construction going on when you shot this drive through. I believe there were four hotels/resorts being built at the same time. Hopefully, you've had a chance to visit since then. The construction is all but finished. The Opal Sands is awesome, and there's about three other new hotels that popped up. They've done a good job with building it up. It's an older video, but I appreciate the trip down memory lane. Seriously... I'm so glad that construction is done, though. Lol.

Elliott J Not really, it will get filled. Besides some of those units will be designated condos anyways. And the first 3 floors are parking. Same thing with Dr. Patel's twin towers being built further down north of the Hyatt. Twin 17 stories, with a resort in the middle. There is demand. Trust me....I live around there. Overall, Florida gains @100,000 a month.....mostly aging baby boomers from up north.

Grew up in clearwater from 1964 to 1973 and went to SkyCrest Elementary school then family moved 30 miles N. of there, The gulf coast sucks, Think about moving too the Atlantic side its much nicer like between Vero beach and Jupiter my favorite is Port St Lucie after working there for a yr, As a construction Supervisor I have lived all over Florida and this is for a 80 to 100.000 income, It was a great town to grow up in and I am still bummed about not getting to go to JFK and Clearwater high school hehe

You should really visit the Atlantic side of central and south Florida cause its all better there and they have waves to surf on and don't need to be rich, 75.000 yr income is all to live comfortably and plenty of jobs around for anyone who WANTS to work, Atlantic Ocean and Indian River provide some of the best fishing, Just visit Clearwater then take St. Rd 60 across the state then look around as you drive south, If you pass Jupiter turn around and look some more, Seriously

It is because the sand has small quartz particles in it that make it white and shine, it also is not real hot like other sand. Clearwater beach is a lot nicer then here in Manasota Key beach, the sand here is darker and not clean like Clearwater.

as much as I enjoyed the calm ride, the beautiful beach, the blue sky and the clean streets I'll have to admit that I would feel extremely uncomfortable in such a environment. Reasons such as the way I look all up to things that I find unpleasant such as nudity (I know it's warm there). My followed ethics and beliefs just happen not to match often with those of the society in which we live currently.
