I’m waiting on an adapter plate from dooms day diesel. I’ll be trying to swap the TDI into my Land Rover discovery 1 with automatic transmission. You’ve been a wealth of information. Thanks for keeping the vids going.
Any reason why you always go for an ALH? i plan on putting a BRM in my Ranger using your old videos, seams like it should be about the same difficulty, however im hesitant seeing that you always go for the ALH’s. Any reason?
Haha because they keep showing up at my house for $500 😂😂 the BRMs do too but they are so clean I can't stand to take them apart yet. The ALH cars are always rusty
Alright another build!! It’s gonna be awesome! I finally parted out my 2001 VW Golf and have almost broken even on the car so I basically got the engine for free. I’m gonna start pairing down the wiring harness but I’m having a hard time on where to start first. Do you have any links or tips of where I could get the wiring diagrams to make a standalone harness myself?
@@TDISwaps that’s does help! Would they just have a photo album of the wiring diagrams that I could use to make some copies of? As far as I know these dodge Dakota swaps are kind of rare. Unless I’m mistaken my swap will be the 6th tdi swapped Dakota in history?
Not to big of fan on these 3.0 automatics...they hold back the 3.o..but im excited to see the out come ! Have couple part automatics and couple parts toyats if you need any extras!👌
@TDISwaps are they easy to find i your area? Tdi are harder to find then first gen cummins parts around here....I've seen 2 around roswell and I got 1...none in junk yards with in 300 miles!!...
Follwing this build!! I am importing a double cab Hilux LN106 with a 22RE, they weigh about 3,900lb. I want to swap in a ALH TDI. I am looking for reliable, high MPGs without sacrficing too much performance as this will be my daily. What would you do to the ALH to make it bulletproof (tune, turbo etc)? how would you dress it up? I am frugal lol
Haha importing a Hilux doesn't sound like something a frugal person would do 😂 ALHs are pretty much bulletproof stock and up to 150 HP with no modification besides tuning.
@@TDISwaps Finding a lightweight double cab solid axle pick up is tough here lol so importing one from south america only sets me back 6-8k. I'm looking to build a nice little truck for under 10k.
I have a 98 ranger that I want to TDi swap. I know ALH is the go to swap, but are there other engines that will work? I have a Golf with the cjaa and it looks quite different that the ALH you have there.
CJAA is a great engine, usually requires more deletes as well as the CP3 swap upgrade along with tuning making it much more costly to swap than the ALH, but more power potential as well. Wiring is more complex and power steering as well as AC and cruise control are a much bigger ordeal but there are ways to do everything.
@TDISwaps that’s the insight I’m looking for 👍🏻 I’ve been doing my homework and the power steering is the main issue I see. I don’t want to try an electric power steering swap at the same time. Like you said it can all be figured out but it’s more likely I do the ALH. Once I cut my teeth on that then I’ll try something like the CJAA in the future.
The stock converter slips to about 1800 RPM which is perfect for this turbo. There aren't many outlets for aftermarket converters on this transmission that I know of
I have looked into it. Not many newer TDIs for sale around me, and the cost to get started with a CR swap is at least double sometimes triple that of a 98-06 build.
@@TDISwaps if u had a whole functional car with the crua motor would you still have to buy a bunch of extra stuff to make it work other than the obvious like adapter plates
@ngelemental2274 I do not trust the cp4 pump in the CRUA so I would do a CP3 pump and delete tune and the starting price for all of that combined is around $2000, I can setup an ALH for less than half that, sometimes under $700 with used parts. Those costs are completely separate from the swap itself
That's the dream right there. Late model toyota pickup with an ALH, 5 speed and a custom step bed or some something unique like that
Heck ya!

For sure man! Glad to help and thanks for watching!
if it comes down to it yea its a bit of cash but microsquirt TCU will fix you controller issues . cool build
Ya we may look at that if the stock controller doesn't shift right for us.
This couldn’t have came at a better time, I’m about to do mine but I’ve been anxious about it lol
Haha well stay tuned!
Following, want to see how the transmission works out, still in the planning phase of my 4runner swap, my tacoma swap 5 spd is still doing good.
I'll be sure to keep everyone updated
The v6 drivetrains are mounted further forward than the 4 cylinders for firewall clearance. I think it's 2.5" difference if I remember right.
Well all I know is, it is much appreciated! 😂
I've always said no to a TDI swap because I thought an automatic wouldn't be doable. I'm very interested now
Haha I already have 2 autos on the road sir!
Lets go!!!

@gavynrich1034 LOL maybe a TDI scrap yard, but don't tell my wife 😂😂😂

@ydocproductions5593 haha I haven't been keeping track but most of the wiring is just for the TDI side and they have PDF files for everything

@TDISwaps always eager to learn bout tdi swaps!!! 🤙
