BeeFriendlyApiary These are not Japanese, but based on the British National hive - 1/4 of the footprint - so they can be used in multiple ways. I only see bottom entrances in your videos. Where and why do you use top entrances?
Thiago Moraes The feeder shown on the top bar hive is excellent - perfect because of its low profile for top bar hives. They work well with syrup and fondant.
Hi Phil any word on selling black native AMM queens? or any advise on a good reliable source for them. I'm keen to try and bring some into our local area. The more black drones in the air the better :)
jetblackstar We had a slow start to the season and my first batch didn't take, so now hopeful that all conditions are right and we should have some good queens soon. I'm being cautious about selling them until I am confident that my mating apiary is operating as planned and I have tested some of the queens for reliability. Look out for announcements on my site at friendsofthebees.org
Phil Chandler thanks I'll keep an eye out. The snow and late spring has been harsh on hives. My one hive made it OK but buildup has been very gradual. Plus side I've seen a posative boom in bubble bees and the plant species they like.
neat but awfully bad to SWARM I bet if not watched closely ,quadratic hives are cool, people super double Nucs four over four configuration so know itd work ,be cool too good videos as usual..
I think in vertical orientation using 4-6 boxes they would be likely to swarm, but they are really intended to be split down to singles for mating queens, then reassembled for winter. I have several verticals running now and they seem to be happy enough.
Japanese style hive...I like it...glad you joined us in top entrances!!!

Looks like a traditional Japanese hive to me also but with frames instead of hollow.
Nice gentle girls and I like your hive setup. I do the same with some queen cells to do splits.
Hi Phill , how do you like those feeders? Do they work well with syrup ? Drowning? Thanks for all the good content.

At 1:23, you put on an eke which looks like home made, what size wood is this? :)
