Danny Bravo! Thank you I was so impressed that you contacted the Central Bank of the Philippines. You are so right on your points and made total sense, BDO should be embarrassed at their business practices especially since they are the biggest bank in the Philippines.
Good deeds should not be taken for granted. Danny, you are doing a great service to the Filipino community in the US, not only with your unfortunate experiences and their solutions but able to allow other readers to relate theirs. Hopefully Philippines will wake up and be in sync with the rest of the world in terms of international activities. Keep up the good work, sir!
I dont know how I stumbled upon your page po but I can already see that this is more effective for me as a learning material to be financially literate. Thank you! Please keep it up. I admire you!
Thank you for all your efforts. Hopefully BDO have learned something ( which is very hard for them to do ; it is a very , very Old rule that they have not changed). It's people like you that make positive change. Again, thanks for sharing.
Great topic Grandpa....that's how Filipino run their business...I lost trust Philippine banking system. I have bad experienced with BPI...I heard so many complain from OFW lost their money with BDO, thank you...best to have passbook account..
Sorry. I just made another video because of complaint I receive that the audio on the first video was bad. Want to make sure that everyone is satisfied with my video production. 🙂
Mr. Danny, Thanks for the video follow up on this issue.. My wife and I had pretty much settled on BDO as the bank we had intended to use in the Philippines... But the information from the first video kinda scared me a bit.. I appreciate the detailed follow up info... Great video!!
I have dealt with this type of behavior many times. I to have been victim of not having my concerns elevated to the appropriate person as well. Long story short, this is how it's done in the Philippines. There is a person for every position and nobody gets out of their lane. I have experienced a situation where I asked a question outside of someone's purview only to find out later the correct person was sitting across the desk from them and my concern was not relayed.
had an internet banking problem with them took 5 months to resolve.BDO poor customer service...cannot even ring my own branch no one answers, had to fly back from uk to pampanga...thank you sir for this very informative video keep it up and enjoy your retirement.God Bless
Kaya walang unlad ang Pilipinas it’s the same bs 30 years ago when i left never change kawawa yung mga kababayan natin na walang magawa sa kabobohan ng mga pulitiko at mga malalaking oligarkiya na nagmamayari ng malalaking kumpanya, thanks for sharing your experience Sir enjoy your retirement in the phils!#theres no place like home😀👍👍
How about those ordinary Filipinos who had experienced this exact problem of yours SIR.? Who were not intelligent enough to fight for this kind of Scam from BDO? You have a prinsipyo and a fighter, THANKS FOR SHARING your experiences!
Your thoughts on the way to handle your issue is more sensible than the way they handled your case......... it can be a benchmark to bring procedural or policy changes over their handling of accounts due for dormancy.
Thank you so much! Very informative video! I had that experience in Metrobank many years ago they just closed my account and I didn’t get my money back. So since then many years ago, I have not use that bank! I am using BDO but with a cousin joint account so she can do some transactions when I need it. Same here with you I am in the US and mostly I only need it when I go home to Philippines and sometimes it several years bago ako nakaka bakasyon. Anyway thanks for the information.
Thanks to you, no wonder when I went back to BDO to open an account. They discovered I have an account that was dormant for 3 years. I totally forgot about it , my money is still there. All they asked from me is to make a deposit and inform me to make a deposit before it gots dormant again.
I still have this problem. My wife is supposed to go home last year but there was a pandemic. I called the bank unfortunately the person I spoke with never communicated back to me. It's been years since our account has been dormant. I hope I can get my money back.
Informative video thanks for sharing your unfortunate banking experiences, I learned a great lesson without going through the aggravation lol. I will soon be in Philippines to retire and this is good to be aware of 🙂
Kuya Danny I appreciate your attitude about getting your money back and not taking no for an answer "from the person in the ivory tower" in fact you have the bank depositing money into your account great job we appreciate your video.
My account did the same way! It took me hours to resolve this! But I was in the Philippines ! Otherwise, they want to use your money! When I go home, I will close my BDO account! Wise gyud ang mga Chinese !
Philippine banks seem to be ignoring the needs of the growing market of Filipinos and other people outside the Philippines who need help and cannot go to the Philippines to resolve issues. There should be ways where issues can be solved electronically for people who are not in the Philippines. Its about time that Philippine banks think that services to Filipinos outside the Philippines is not just incoming remittance but also outside remittance, fexible money transfers and better control of accounts from outside the Philippines. They should think of ways where we can resolve issues without going to the Philippines.
Sir Thank you very much for your video I have the same exact problem that happens to you I have to cry to the Branch Manager while I'm talking to him he is just saying sorry for the inconvenience but your personal appearance is required so I emailed the Central Bank as you described since I live in the US and there's no way I can return there due to travel restrictions. I am waiting to go from there. I am hopeful that this will solve the problem.
@@vloggergrandpa2707 Sir thank you for your advice and video on the subject dealing with a dormant checking account. I was able to reactivate my account and retrieve my balance intact. I enjoy watching your video and look forward to watching more of your videos.
Im from Singapore and have been in the Philippines since 2006. Same thing happened to me with BPI. They pissed me so bad I flew there and closed the account. They have no sense of Customer Service. It is not worth the run around. Without open competition with foreign banks they will never get their act together. The paperwork is endless and serves no useful purpose simply because they have no real world banking experience!
Sir, not everyone are as smart and resourceful as you. May be a good warning for normal layman humans like me to think twice before opening up a bank account in BDO.
I had the same experience with BPI. I had a UITF/Mutual Fund placement with the bank. This placement was assigned a settlement account separate from my regular savings account that I maintain with them. As I had no intention of adding any more funds on top of that which I had already invested, it naturally had no activity for a year. Lo and Behold the stupid settlement account was deemed dormant by Stupid Bank of Philippine Islands.... Exactly the same case. Exactly the same hassle. I was not abroad but I had already relocated from Quezon City Cubao to Paranaque and they insisted that I drive, bear and grin my way through the traffic to fix the problem......It ended well.... but after a lot of expletives on my part which is a very rare reaction from me
Hope they changed the process of notifying not only via letter to a known last residence address in the PI but also to your email and phone # in the record.
Don't worry. If and when it becomes dormant, be sure to re-activate your account the next time you get home. Then, open another bank account in the same bank and you can make *_automatic_* monthly transfers between the two accounts for say P100. That action will trigger a deposit on one account and withdrawal on the other which is considered an activity. That will avoid your account being dormant.
thats some kind of idiotic experience from most banks sooo iritating.. u can really found more loopholes n their rules for those people who do not have knowledge on arguing or filing for what is right goodbye money
Im married to a Filipina but my question would be if the would treat me differently because I’m not a Filipino, can’t speak the language and don’t have the cultural skills to negotiate?
Oh, yes. I would let my Filipina wife do all the negotiating. Besides, they are usually good at it. Also, I will not go with her, or at least not visible, while she is negotiating. 🙂

@Jett Ampoloquio Try to file a claim at BDO. Don't talk to the teller. Talk to management and be persistent. If necessary, write a letter to Bangko Central ng Pilipinas.
Nice video. Opening a bank account in Pinas is relatively easy for dual citizens. BDO seems to be the exception. I tried opening a peso or dollar account at several BDO branches with no success. Sadly, the banking system in the Philippines is as antiquated as its discriminatory employment practices.

Open another account, maybe a checking account. Then just transfer on-line a minimal amount back and forth every 6 months to avoid dormancy.
That's what I did since I already have several accounts. If only they told me about the dormancy, this would have not been a problem.
Actually, the dormancy guidelines are tucked-in their website. You have to patiently navigate to find it and they expect the customers to know it.
