It's just a show, more of a reality TV but with the promise that the winner get into the UFC and gets some money. Still UFC signs fighters from other organisations and they could be dominant and undefeated and that's why they dominate in the UFC. It's not like the ultimate fighter means that the winner is the best of the best but he is definitely the better fighter out of the fighters that participated in that season, which most of them failed to get into the UFC or are trying to get in.
They are bringing them in to cut costs but the skill deficit is a problem.

Trey Ogden is horrible the dude is shredded and clearly looks bigger than Kurt but he had to hug trey for 6 minutes straight to prevent Kurt from knocking him out. That is boring yes I agree Kurt should have the skills to get up but the ref should have stood this dumb crap up stop giving wins to guys that do this he clearly wasn't getting anywhere. Stop giving bad fighters an out by letting them lay on the other guy for 2-3 rounds you guys incentivise this bs Treys team knew they couldn't win so they told him to essentially exploit the rules and drag the fight out none of us wanted to see this crap and we all wanted it to stand up trey wasn't submitted anyone this day he just was trying to escape.
