  • 9.02 BTG lap in a stock Toyota Corolla T-Sport.
    Economy tyres on the front axle and budget tyres on the rear.
    Lost 3 seconds at 04.31 in as I could not get the car into 2nd gear and had to go for low revs in 3rd.

    You killed it!!! Some chops you got there my friend, you did a great lap time, especially for a fully stock humble corolla, you've nailed it!!! I own one my self for just about a year and I've only good things to say.. All it needed was a clutch, and two wheel bearings.. It came with upgraded suspension and custom exhaust (impressively quiet).. What can I say a very decent, fun to drive and absolutely honest car!!in the right hands it does its tricks effortlessly!! Before that I used to own a mint, never painted, never crashed, fully built n/a 106 rallye (suspension, engine, ecu.. Everything) until one day a semi truck thought otherwise

      @@6BEEP9 We just bought one to replace our Cooper S 08, the corolla is better in almost every single way other then out right handling. It needs coil overs or wider track with sticky tires but as far as hatches go its pretty good, the mini was just incredible to turn in but so terribly built. I'll recommend the T sport over it any day.

    Thanks. We have had the car for about 8 years I think. apart from regular servicing we have only had to replace a rear brake calliper which seized. later in the day on of this video I did manage to overheat the car but it was about 30C that day. it has done track work before with no problems.

      VuckoHD It was a little bit frustrating in the slow speed corners as it understeered quite a bit but that was more down to the cheap tyres than anything. Anything above 50-60mph and it was fine and fun. Its a pretty stable car so you can really push it without getting dangerous.

    Did you do anything with exhaust or engine because sounds little bit like type r :) You're doing also very good corners mate.I've got corolla t sport 2004 but I never tryed like you. Are you using any bilstein shocks, limited slip differential and 205/45/R16 ?

    • @RBWill1
      @RBWill1  9 лет назад +1

      The car is fully standard except for taking the rear seats out. I think the difference in noise is from taking the seats out it echoes around the interior more. Suspension is standard. I am on the lookout for a set of used Tein coilovers. No LSD but yes the tyres are 205/45/R16 though they were not premium or track tyres just average road ones on the front and cheap ones on the back lol.

      syed bokhari yes slightly lower and stiff. Front & rear strut braces. Then the compressor is slightly lower again which more bracing but underneath

  • @tomaszgrabowski7879
    @tomaszgrabowski7879 9 лет назад

    Yeah mate I tryed once with golf r32 straight line drag from 50-120mph and to be honest golf pulled ahead about 1 car lengths and other time when I pulled with focus st 2.5 up to 120mph both cars been going the same but I think after 120mph focus will goes ahead. If you're thinking about Tein coilovers I can say good idea is to buy billstein b12 pro kit is together with eibach springs. I'm using them since 7 months and I'm really happy. I also put 205/45/R16 87Y tyres but car sits lower and I can say it's better handling when you goes in the corners, less tyres squealing, less rolling and not horrible stiff. But to be honest best idea to have a nice handling it's just change rims to compressor ones and then use 225/40/R17 87Y with billstein b12 kit. Tein suspension could be very stiff, low and can affect other suspension parts, I can say with my billstein is sometimes horrible when you drive on a road with bad surface. Anyway to have a perfect suspension in corolla you need to put TRD limited slip differential and then it's quite similar to Type r but in practice it's to expensive. I can also say that probably in your ride with your mate on a nurburgring you've bet the type r ep 3. I'm sending link below:
    ruclips.net/video/48kjAG4b1Vw/видео.html
    Let me know if you will be interested to buy billstein couse I bought my set in poland and it was not like in UK 860 pouds, I paid just 560

    • @RBWill1
      @RBWill1  9 лет назад

      I had looked at the Bilsteins before and wondered if they might be a bit soft for pure track work but may give them a go now. Need to get the engine sorted forst though lol. That Civic video, reasonable time, bit of luck on a few corners! and man does he need to be quiet lol. His lap was about an 8.54 so a little bit quicker than mine. I think that is as fast as my mate in the S2000 went on his best lap. Though the guy in the Type R had a flat out flying start and didnt drop 2nd geear half way round lol so only a couple seconds in it really. And I'm guessing by the harnesses that the car was not standard and on cheap tyres lol. I will see what we get down to with some Suspension and proper rubber.

  • @tomaszgrabowski7879
    @tomaszgrabowski7879 9 лет назад

    Yeah this guy in a type r got a very fast and that's the reason why was 5 seconds faster. If you start the same fast probably you'll have the same time as him. Anyway type r without V-Tec got the same power as civic type s in EP3 body so 160 hp and when goes with V-Tec is doing 200 which corolla without lift got same power as standard celica so 140hp. That's the reason why you need to go all the time on the lift to keep going with EP3 :) What's happen mate to your engine ?? Did you tryed lift the car with low level of oil or when engine was not hot enought ?

    • @RBWill1
      @RBWill1  9 лет назад

      I think the oil got a bit too hot and thin. right at the end of the trackday this video was on it started knocking. so will need a bottom end rebuild or just replace the engine. I will put an oil cooler on it for next year.

  • @gardenweld
    @gardenweld 6 лет назад

    The problem with the Corolla T-Sport " i think" is the standard cams fitted, when your at the end of the power band and go for the next gear you have lost boost then the revs build up and then it 's back. you have to red line every gear, drive it like it's a hire car.. ;)

    • @Chris5685
      @Chris5685 6 лет назад

      gardenweld BobJohnson Yeah, but I'm afraid of the increased maintenance needs of the supercharger version, and that one is rare too, at least where I live. I'd rather have an NA one that I can keep in good condition and use as a daily driver, it already delivers good performance. Unless I can find a supercharged one in really good condition of course...

      +touge_ attack They are alright. Most people do say bad things about them but they are just going on magazine reviews which always exaggerate things. Most people who have experienced mine have been quite impressed. 2 of my friends even bought their own after being in mine. really its only the suspension that is a bit wobbly as standard. If you lower it/ stiffen the suspension and put some lower profile and wider tyres on it then I would say its an equal to the EP3 at half the price. The seats are not as good but again can be replaced way cheaper then you can buy and run an EP3 for. There may be a few secs between them on track but to be honest the only thing that got away from me in mine on a country road was a guy with a sorted 106 GTi that knew the road really well, the Tsport was quicker in a straight line but not as agile as the 106.

    • @RBWill1
      @RBWill1  9 лет назад

      +touge_ attack as standard the steering feel is quite light but good enough to feel the car moving around under you, they will lift off oversteer. It may well be improved if the car is lower and stiffer and with power steering taken out but I have never driven a non standard one so dont know. Hope you have fun with it if you get one.

    I think there's something else happened. Probably engine acetabulum got twisted, hit and moved the shaft what's finally hurt engine quite seriously. If happened my Friend I can tell you to buy a new engine. It can happen to cars like T sport or Type r and other cars with Variable valve timing. It's happen when oil is old, oil filter problems (when you hit it) or when is not hot enough and you use lift. To be honest my Friend once in ep3 been going fast on the roundabout, oil was not changed since year, level was in the middle and when he's been taking the roundabout oil flowed on one side, engine acetabulum wasn't enough oiled and got twisted. I think you don't need to be worried about the oil cooler just use castrol esge 5w30 and will be all right. Also the coolant level can goes down couse engines in Corolla T sport are very close to the coolant tank and temperature is so high when you goes quite often on lift that it can start disappearing.

    • @RBWill1
      @RBWill1  9 лет назад

      You may be correct. I have had 2 mechanics look at it, both think its bottom end.
      the oil and filter were only 1 week old and the car was at or slightly above optimum temp.

  • @tomaszgrabowski7879
    @tomaszgrabowski7879 9 лет назад +1

    I can say you could be a very hard opponent for honda civic type r ep3, probably honda will lose If you can drive so close to S2000 which in fact is nearly 200 kg lighter than corolla and got nearly 40 hp more, impressive

    • @RBWill1
      @RBWill1  9 лет назад

      There was a surprisingly small difference betweeen the Corolla and S2000. We did a straight line drag from 30-120mph and the S2000 only pulled ahead by about 2 car lengths. Where it did have the advantage was in pure grip in slow speed corners.
      Think an EP3 would probably have the same advantage unless I changed the setup on the T-sport. But all the cars are that close that its really down to the driver who wins.
