THANK YOU! I've been working on an Atari 2600 Vader that I picked up in a "for parts" auction. I had a console5 recap kit sitting around from a junior I never got around to, and your clear directions have helped me breathe life back into the old girl. She came to me filthy, rusted inside, and with the rf cord cut. After a bit of cleaning and work, she's like new!

So glad I came across your video. I bought a non-working Darth Vader model on Ebay awhile back. I picked up the Console 5 restoration kit, but wasn't exactly sure where all the parts went. After watching your video, the 2600 is working great. You've definitely got a new subscriber.

I never imagined using Arctic Silver on an Atari 2600, but the point about one tube of it lasting a long time was exactly the reason why I recommended it for years, even though I rarely overclocked. It was so nice to have the tube handy in case I had to do something with a CPU cooler

Blaine, great recapping guide for the atari 2600! I would love to watch a step-by-step guide like this one for a NES toaster. Thank you so much and keep making these great tutorials!

Hi Blaine I just picked up a 4 switch Atari for parts from a local media store. It’s was sold as parts only but I’m 100% sure they didn’t have the adapters to plug it into a tv. I’ve been practicing my soldering a lot so I can’t wait to recap it soon!

Oh, yes! The legendary Atomic Fireball jaw breaker! I ate a lot of those while playing Solaris! They are an essential part of the experience.

8:11 that's actually false, if you apply too much it'll just squish out the sides when you tighten it down and will be no different than if you applied the perfect amount, just a bit messier and more wasteful. The same thing has been said about applying thermal paste on CPUs, quite a few videos about this subject that has debunked that myth.
But what you do have to watch out about is if the thermal paste is electrically conductive or not, applying too much thermal paste that's electrically conductive would be all bad.

Great video! I've installed 4 of these now, Console5 uses top quality components. They also sell replacements for the difficulty/channel select switches, and parts specific to the 6 switch consoles.

Great video, I will get the console5 kit and perform this tune up once my vader takes a dump. So far no problems with the original parts

Hey I don’t have any of these restoration kits or anything but my tv won’t pick up my Atari CX2600 I have the adapters games and power cable but my tv just won’t pick it up is this a problem with console or the tv there does seem to be something shaking around inside it when you pick it up.

Do you have any advice on restoring a light sixer? Of course, the insides of mine look different from the one you're fixing in this video. My unit belonged to my wife and her family when she was young. I'd really like to get it going again. Thanks!

Replace the 7805 with a Traco TRS 1-2541 DC converter which runs much cooler.

Might be a problem with the TIA (television interface adapter) chip as it helps generate the tv signal and audio

Great vid. Ive got a heavy sixer im trying to get working again. I used the kit from console 5 and replaced the old damaged ribbon cable between the 2 boards but i still cant get it to work. When i power it up all i get is a solid black screen. Any ideas on what else it could be? Because its a heavy sixer i really want to get it working again.

Jon, if you changed out all the components from the kit and still have a black screen. First verify that the Voltage regulator is indeed putting out +5 in case the issue might be the power supply itself. If that checks out, then it is most likely the TIA or the RIOT chip. I usually try replacing the TIA first and then the RIOT. As those are custom chips you would have to source them from Best Electronics, or use another donor 2600 (Preferably one with other issues that aren't worth fixing) to pull the chips from.

Just an update i tested out the chips in my brothers light sixer and all the chips worked. So im thinking that my main board must be shot. Looks like ill have to try to find a replacement board for it.
