Thank you so much for uploading this. I loved Doll by Doll and immediately fell in love with his solo work. I went to multiple concerts in Germany. He was such a great entertainer and his art will stay in my memory forever.
Just discovered your video after being introduced to JL by Ian Rankin (not personally I should add), thanks for sharing, very interesting and, of course, a little bit sad.
Didn't know this existed. Thank you so much for uploading and sharing this. Great reminder of what a great artist and man JL was. Cherish his music still as much as I did then.
Tanto grande, quanto sottovalutato.
Despite being a Langtonian myself, to my great shame I had never heard of this wonderful guy until a couple of years ago. Beautiful voice and great music. Why is he not much more famous?
I only ever met Jackie once in Jim's Cafe in Colne in 2003, and it was one of the highlights of my life. I told him a story of a dwarf I met in Liverpool and his theory of why they got sunburn more easily more easy than big guys (I myself am only five foot two ). He was delighted with the story and apparently sometimes told it in his set. He never acknowledged it..pah!
Too short! More! (Thanks for posting!!!) Does anyone have any footage of Jackie at the Calgary folkfest 2008? That's Calgary, Canada. There's a short clip up already, just enough to be frustrated with.
What a beautifully eloquent person Jackie was and how well he spoke for himself, through all his problems and achievements. And what a strange thing it is in life, that gives someone like Jackie, incredible song writing and performing talent, yet kept him within a select but very appreciate audience ; and leaves others, far less able than him, to become famous across the world.
It is strange, and while it may be frustrating perhaps for some artists, those few in that "secret" circle getting to enjoy such a great artist are winners that get to have someone like him and not having to share him/her with the world :) I "discovered" him with the sexual loneliness some at a collection album in Q magazine by chance :) And now in later years i have started to listen to the rest of his songs and have a whole treasure hoard to look forward to!
This is the first interview of his I've seen after reading about him off and on over the years - he seems pretty mild-mannered and self-effacing, which I wasn't expecting
Think I must have met Jackie Leven in a pub at a quarter to seven , in Kirkcaudy where the architects stay near the loch whaur the big troot bide. RIP Jackie.
I was Jackies.hairdresser /friend. He was an amazing man and a gifted musician, poet . Very much loved and sadly missed each day.
So gutted I only found Jackie Leven’s music after he passed away. Thanks for uploading this.
Jackie Leven is my favourite singer songwriter by far. I never saw him live and this is my greatest regret.
Life just ain't the same without a new Leven album (or 2) to look forward to every year. Legend.
Thank you. This is my cousin, about whom I never knew enough...this is lovely,

What a great artist of substance and originality. He reminds me of our own Pierce Turner here in Ireland.
What a great find. Thanks.
Thanks Ian. This means a lot.
Great versions of the songs! Wish we could hear them in their entirety. RIP Big Man.
Jackie was a great composer, singer and musician, miss him!
A great talent, sadly missed, what an underrated talent.

Forever in my heart, Jackie.

I should add, that I wish there were more interviews with him, as I’d love to know more. Maybe one day somebody will put together a biography of him.

It’s Defending Ancient Springs from the album of the same name. 😊
