  • Several examples of backlighting techniques for portraiture explained using some photos from the archives. I talk about natural backlighting (from the sun) and flash photography backlighting. Two umbrellas, one-umbrella, a vinyl shower curtain or a plain white wall for bounce. Most of the examples use one or two flash units.

Thanks Ed Verosky. You are always helpful because you make these techniques accessible to everyone. You know, no excessive tech talk.

For some reason I never got a notification of your previous video, which is annoying as I have the bell clicked.
You are superb as describing light, using available light and making your own light. A fantastic video for explaining how to user create light from behind your subject. You explained how different techniques can used as good as anyone could do and a lot better than most. It is a technique I use in both landscape and wildlife photography due to the time of the day I’m usually out making my images.
A great video Ed, and you had some fantastic images.

Nice job, Ed. I learned quite a bit regarding possibilities with backlighting and how it can work with different scenarios. Love the maternity photos also!

Ed, love the Back Light wonders.
    Use it a lot.
Here in Holland we have the Flower fields now (basically they ar a nice by-product of growing the bulbs we export)
Now when the tulips are totally out, and that is often in the first two weeks of May, I go out into the fields on a sunny day.
Position myself in the length of some flower beds with my back to the East facing the West, wait till the sun is going down but either above my frame or left or right out of my frame.
Kneel down on flower level, take a shot and the tulips become translucent.
It's magic and very surrealistic SOOC.
