Wow! I like that pattern. Since I have been tying caddis patterns lately will put this one on my list for sure. Thanks Matt. Continued blessings my friend
I agree Daryl! Though there aren't a ton of dry flies with peacock. I look forward to trying this one as you know with no tail, the back end of this should definitely ride down in the surface film.
awesome tying matt...going to give this one a shot tying it....still being new too tying i kind of pick the one i would like to try...thanks matt and as always i will be watching..see ya joe
Thank you, Matt this is a really good fly. I use it for Trout and Bluegill. I have my well-used copy of the Best One Thousand. The images are crystal clear.
Good Morning Sir Matt, always a pleasure checking the Savage Fly Channel and finding new content. The Peacock Caddis looks awesome i have everything to ty a few of theses as always a great ty and thank you for sharing Sir Matt. Happy New Years to you and your Family Sir.
That's cool Mike-- what do you change to tie it as a wet? Just swap the dry fly hackle for hen, but leave the wing? I could see this thing working great if you swing it like a wet, or even with some weight as a nymph.
A cool trick I do to keep deer hair from spinning on me is to take a wrap around just the deer hair first than a wrap around the hook. Won't keep the hair from flairing but it won't spin might give it a try. Great video live deer hair caddis.
Steven Eaton Thanks Steven! I did that with the fly right before this but wasn’t sure I could pull it off since I trimmed it short before tying in. I’ll try it next time! Also, somebody mentioned waxing your thread might help too. I might have to try both. 😁
Ahhh... I've heard of using Cree instead of brown and grizzly. I've never tied with any and I hear it's not too easy to find nowadays. Any supplier you know of?
Matt, love your videos. I learned so much from them! I even tied my own improvised (i only have wool and some cheap-ass rooster hackle) Parachute Adams. Its not perfect but i think it will catch some fish. Here in the Netherlands we mostly have roach and perch we can catch on the fly. And if you get lucky the perch may reach up to 50 cm ( i think thats about 24 inch)... and they are some real strong fish! So maybe if you have a fly or streamer suitable for these waters.... please let me know. Thanks, greetings Ed
Thanks for the note Ed! And wow, a 24 inch perch is a monster and I can believe that would be a strong fish. I've never been to the Netherlands (not yet anyway) so I can't say what might work best for streamers on your water, but I'd probably just search online by particular lake or river that you're going to fish. You'd think somebody somewhere has talked about what works there. Good luck my friend and thanks again for the note!
Nice. I’m a bit surprised that the recipe calls for only one peacock herl since it can be pretty fragile. I might want to tie it with 2 herls & maybe add one as a back up in case of one breaking. A little wax on your thread before adding & wrapping the wing might reduce twisting & make the tie-in easier.
Ahhh... great point Bob! I've seen that tip with waxing your thread before tying in a deer or elk hair wing. I just always forget it. And yeah, I would have thought more people would tie this with two herls, and maybe even an x-small wire to rib it. I would assume the reason they don't is to keep the body thin, and two herls would give it more of a fat-bodied nymph look. But then again, I'm guessing here...
I love the look of peacock on the body. A great fly. Thanks Matt
Thanks Lee! Happy New Year... and stay safe!
Love tying/fishing caddis flies. They float nicely and look ‘delicious’. 😀
Thanks Clyde! Hopefully the fish will find this one delicious as well. :-)
Wow! I like that pattern. Since I have been tying caddis patterns lately will put this one on my list for sure. Thanks Matt. Continued blessings my friend

Nice one Matt! Can't go wrong with peacock for trout.
I agree Daryl! Though there aren't a ton of dry flies with peacock. I look forward to trying this one as you know with no tail, the back end of this should definitely ride down in the surface film.

Hi Matt, another great pattern. Fished it years ago. Good caddis pattern. It also works well tied as a wet.

Rocky- yeah, definitely worth checking it out. Thanks for watching my friend!
This is a pattern I tie quite a bit. They’re fun to tie some I’ll split the hair for a spent caddis that work well.
That's a pretty cool idea Chris. Thanks for the note!
Great job matt!! Gonna try this one later tonight
Oh yeah, tie a half dozen of them in 14s and 16s. Guaranteed to be fish catchers. :-)
@@SavageFlies gave it a try not sure if I got it right tho
@@michaelrollins1370 I wouldn't sweat it... I'm sure it will fish!
i love this one
Appreciate it Mike!

Looks great Matt like on my Adam’s I use a Cree hackle if you have one
