- At the 11th edition of Africa Economic Conference, CNBC Africa's Wole Famurewa moderates a discussion on the way forward to transforming Africa's agriculture joined by; Nobel Laureate Economist from Harvard University Eric Maskin; President of the Africa Development Bank Akinwumi Adesina; Nigeria Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Audu Ogbeh and UN Assistant SG& Director, Regional Bureau for Africa, UNDP, Abdoulaye Mar Dieye.
Investing in Seed, Agriculture, Research, and breeding innovations will save the continent. Africa has a huge potential and I am happy that we are now having a conversation in this direction 🎉🎉
I agree a great interactive discussion, for African countries to sustain a momentum of economic stability and growth the agricultural sector should be the focal point as the various processes of this sector will create jobs.and transform lives .

Though long, it was a healthy exchange of thoughts from diverse personalities. Electrification is central to achieving agricultural transformation in Africa.

Transformation can take place if the political will power is there
to lay down platforms for that.
First of all, you are not competing with the world, but rather internally. It is the surplus that is theoritically alwasy exported. Take into consideration the function of the Gross Domestic Product.
Second, education and skills are indispensable. In order to speed up the venture to a higher-level, this means producing on a large scale, Africa must introduce immediately the use of advanced tools, this means machines or better said agricultural machines.
One of the platforms I mentioned above is venture capital, which the State must pay more attention to.
The unskilled labour force could improve in a short term to a high skilled level on the field.
With the aid of agricultural research institutes, I think Africa, has numerous capabilities and facilities, so that in the end all will rest on the political will as mentioned in the beginning.

I agree with the points, however, let us ask ourselves, why is agriculture an unattractive industry especially to the youth in the eyes of attractive facilities?

I agree with the white man in the beginning. That is why I setup a charity focussed on upskilling. That is the first thing to do. And once upskilled - there should be a programmed that these individuals go through from there.

Where are the African Civil engineers? We need our doctors, business magnate entrepreneurs, scientists and everyone and everything. We don’t need as many politicians anyway cos most are thieves and pen armed robbers. Now is the time for us people to move forward. Do not waste this opportunity please. What are you talking about? Nigeria has been doing well... slow & steady! Rotimi Williams and others. All you have to do is follow some of them on social media. Nigerian rice farmers, snails, fish farming. I’m in America and I follow lots of them. God Bless them.

The fact that Maskin went to Harvard doesn't mean jack shit. Excuse the expression but its exactly what i mean. Maskin is only going trasmit information that will work only within the current upside down toxic pharma corporate sytem. It will produce no more than what is produced in countries already successful in that system. He knows next to nothing about sustainable agriculture I'm absolutely certain. He's just an ivory tower intellectual who's stupid framework of ideas appears as advanced. It will result in toxic GMO foods, toxic poisonous fertilizers and insecticides. It will result in rivers, streams, lakes, and ponds being innundated with insecticides, pharmaceuticals, heavy metals, bio sludge, chemicals, etc. Ground water will be poisoned all just for corporate profits. Im not saying he has nothing of value but any value will further the current worldview and not surpass it. Afrikan agricultural scientists need to pionneer and think and come up with out of the Box(Cube) solutions to the problem system we curently live in. It requires independent thinking

Africkaans can grow their own foods as individuals what is needed is how to make use of every drop of rain water like using drip irrigation water pumps using water wind mill where possible people should use every bit of land where possible secondly they don't need to use chemical fertilizers to poison the land
