- Recommissioning an old merc that’s been left to die in the yard, so I convinced my mate to drag it in and get it back on the road and sell it to someone who would use it rather than leaving it to rot let’s save another old girl 💪💪💪

I've had a good few w124, and w202 in the past. Certainly one of the easiest chassis to work on, and solid too. That era was certainly the last of the good looking Mercedes.

I know mate after having a look I said that to him but I think he’s happy with £1500 just waiting on the new wiper motor then he can run it down for a test and get it up for sale 👊👊👊

Half hour spent with a wire brush then ten mins with a couple tins of shultz on the gun and jobs a goodun lol . To be fair I seen a lot newer Mercs that would look a right shed next to this one, its a decent motor bit of tlc and away she goes. Mk1 astra SR I have seen a few of them wrapped up in the salvage yards back in the day lol .Thats gotta be worth a view at least Regards Rich.

I love my '87 190 Turbo Diesel which has a 5 speed manual from an '85 190d. Every time I'm at the junk yard and see one sentenced to death I think it's a crime. So I always like watching 190's get saved!

Seeing them get scrapped is very sad for me as well, but at least they will help other 190's live longer. I drive an 87 190D 2.5l diesel as well, but mine is missing the turbo, and its auto, because everything is auto in the USA. I love these old Mercedes, great cars they are!
@@jkjoshua567HD Yeah I was lucky to find one with the 5 speed swapped in by the welder that owned it before me and he did a good job installing it but I had to get under there and rejigger the shift rods to get it shifting right. And I don't know what it is about these cars but I just love them. My wife had a newer Acura 6 speed ILX that I just never cared to drive, and so whenever we go on road trips we take my 190td. We call her Sadie. And yes thanks to the sacrifices of about 20 w201's, I've been able to get her from junk yard condition when I got her, to pretty close to decent :) But she was missing door panels, the back passenger door was held on by a bungie cord, the rear power window motors were broken, the sunroof was broken, the dash was cracked, and I just went piece by piece hunting in yard after yard till I got all the pieces looking good inside, except the plastic on the parcel shelf, my dogs just had to go bonkers on it and chip it after I found a decent one in the yard. The next thing I need to tackle is the whining noise behind the glove compartment. Must be some air pump for one of the vacuum systems. I went through and replaced all the door vacuum elements so it's not that. And I don't have an automatic so it doesn't need vacuum to shift. Maybe it has to do with the heater/AC which is actually in dire need of my attention anyway. Anyway, great to meet another '87 w201 diesel owner!

That's mint and not to mention the manual gearbox, they are rare. Most of these Mercedes left the factory with auto boxes and the manual was either a limited run or only on order, not sure which without checking the old Google. That would be worth a few Bob once restored mate. Keeping up with your videos too and would like to thank you for the anti boredom content 👊

That's a nice old 190E. Those things were mechanically pretty much indestructible, especially with the manual gearbox as it was basically a van unit. That one has a few nice options on it too, like 4 electric windows and the sunroof. I'll bet that rear wing is so flat because it's had a paint repair at some time as this one is pre-water-based paint. These old girls are worth decent money now so he could be in for some decent dosh for this one, which may be a surprise for him...
This one was registered in Milton Keynes so it was probably originally supplied by Mercedes-Benz UK...

It’s in great condition for a 30 year old car, I looked it up on the GOV.UK/MOT history check, it was first registered on 4th of January 1990.

Yes to the Astra. I love an old Merc, this one is way too good to let it rot - it needs to be back on the road. Mr old Dad had one identical to this on an H reg, the silly old sod PX'd it for a Rover just as they went bust...I was gutted he got rid of it.

Those 190e's were a great motor. They came from a time when mercedes over engineered their cars. Glad to see it will be going back on the road. Great content mate. Merc looks pretty good for the age and mileage be worth tidying up the rough bits just to keep it tidy I would like to see you repaint the 1/4 panel so the paint is all matching, also yes on the mk1 astra!

I would love the merc repainted in gun metal grey ,put some lowering springs on her and fit a set of 18s on it and get a darker interior and this would be my dream car ,, as for a astra sr ! I had one in black with m2 Astra 16v alloys and cut down Jamex springs they was a Brilliant car ,,, please show us the car would bring back great memories

It's cars like this 190 & the 200/300 series before it that gave Mercedes their reputation for "hewn from Granite" build quality. The car deserves to be saved. The only thing that lets that particular car down is its not an auto box.

The Merc I remember my teacher having one in white with the body kit on etc was a nice thing the one in this vid I wouldn’t have looked twice at but I am sure it is not just me but cars that where not maybe your cup of tea back in the day seem to be nice to see and dare I say a little bit cool seeing them either on the road or been saved 👍

They do rust out in the engine bay and the usual A pillars and arches but easy to repair though.

Sporty cars were scarce in the 1980s, No internet either. For my first car in 1989, I tried to get a Polo 1.3s coupe or Nova SR or fiesta 1.4s, I ended up with a ‘not sporty’ 1987 polo 1.3 Ranger, same engine and interior though, and I still own it

The Astra would be a nice touch. I know the GTE is rare but imagine the SR probably even more so. Always been a ford fan to be honest but will give the Vauxhall guys something to get excited about 😂 saying that though will peek my interest also in between cossie vids 👍
