There’s like 1 dude in the entirety of the UK that teaches the Shamisen and he is a 7 hour drive from me. Curse the day I fell in love with this instrument
Not talented, skilled. It comes with practice and almost anyone can do it PROVIDED they practice and dedicate to it. As a small time 'musician' it pains me that people attribute skill to talent as if they just mastered the instrument as soon as they touched it. With enough oractice, playing songs fast and in time becomes second nature if you practice them well
Most Japanese music is written in Pentatonic scale, so with only 12 different starting notes and 5 notes per scale, many songs end up in the same key. In Japanese music theory there are technically only 2 modes: _male_ and _female_ Since there are only 12 notes, 5 notes played per scale, and only 2 modes, and there are thousands of songs and tunes, some will inevitably sound similar. Also, the lady in this video seems to playing (mostly) fast pentatonix arpeggios, which is what you do in practicing and learning any instrument. Because of this, many many many songs contain entire bars or even entire movements/sections/etc. of just arpeggios. It's like when somebody plays BoogieWoogie on piano, it always sounds the same except maybe the key it's in.
In feudal japan, a geiko playing an instrument like this back when everything was wood, it'd become a fairy tale. Damn i wish i could play an instrument that didn't smell bad every time it blew gas.
@K Oh, totally agree. I just imagined there would be some equally ornate device honed and simplified by generations of Shamisen players. But then I suppose there's nothing much simpler than an Ernie Ball guitar strap.

let youtube be your best friend, and if you’ve ever played any fretless instruments before you should get used to it in no time 👍🏼
Why does this instrument sound SO DAMN GOOD
Yes.
You need to check out a band called Wagakki Band. Beni-san is amazing.
scratches my brain good
Because it is
I've always loved how the Shamisen looks. Its so fitting for what kind of sound it makes.
It looks like a George Foreman on a stick.
She absolutely SHREDDING it tho
Her name is Hanawa Chie (はなわちえ).
Oh thats Chie Hanawa - She plays with so much feeling, it's incredible!
Wow, she plays wonderful
The bass guitar of the medieval era
it actually came about a tiny bit after the medieval era
Edo banjo
More like feudal
How so?
those huge shamisen picks just twist my brain.
Rocking ancient instrument .
How does this not have more likes? It's less that 450! That's crazy.
The wonderful and talanted Hanawa Chie. One of the best Shamisen players around.
Oh god, how can she play so fast without getting 1 wrong noyé
So talented

DEMON SLAYER ZENITSU!!!!
Literally came from a video about that
yeah we’re not going to do this today…
Shout out to the guy whose whole job seems to be holding a rope to keep people out of the sidewalk so thers room to walk.
I think she plays in the Wagakki Band who play a blend of traditional Japanese music, rock and pop.
That's not her, your thinking of Beni who plays the same instrument.
Z-zenitzu?
If Zenitsu became Oiran POV:
In Paris you can see many people who do shamisen in the metro 🚋
Now you all know, METAL started way back! Case closed 🔐!!!🤘🤘🤘
why wasnt this longer?
Vem na minha cabeça alguma luta de anime prestes a começar
Her playing is lit...her hair is lit....her outfit is megalit....

Where in Japan do I learn how to play shamisen?
You can learn from anywhere! I’m currently saving up for one and you can find anything you need to know on RUclips!
I wonder how it would sound with a distortion pedal?
can someone loop this, put some french-core beats underneath and link the result to me
this needs some push :D
Ah yes, Japanese Free Bird.
she the best
First thing that it reminds me of is avatar the last airbender fun scenes.
I NEED to know the name of this song
Didn't even know there were electric ones.... o_O
its more so just an electric pickup inside the shamisen
i want to turn on the distortion and overdrive and hear how it sounds...
Zenitsu 🔥🔥

How may I contact her? I may need her music for the Sitcom I am writing and producing.
класс.
Amazing instrument, steeped in tradition and culture, held up with a cheap Ernie Ball strap.
@K Oh, totally agree. I just imagined there would be some equally ornate device honed and simplified by generations of Shamisen players. But then I suppose there's nothing much simpler than an Ernie Ball guitar strap.
Sounds like Zenitsu's version hah!
