Ah you are amazing!! I’ve had my dulcimer for 15 years and although I am classically trained in other instruments, I’ve never really stopped to learn a tune in this way. Very happy to say I can play it the next day without prompts! Thanks to your excellent teaching video.
Go to the bottom right of the video and click on the settings "wheel." The box that comes up has the "playback speed" option. Click on that and the choices will come up to speed the video up or slow it down. Slowing the video down are the ".5, .25 or .75 options. Then click on your preferred choice. Hope that helps. ☺
During the step by step part of the lesson, you were showing using the hammer on the 2nd string on the far right side of the dulcimer, but when you played the whole song together at the end, I didn't see where you even used the far right side of the dulcimer. Did I miss it? I am new to this instrument, so all I can get in the way of lessons is great. Thank your for showing this video.
Brett - Would you please provide a list of the current lesson tunes available? I cannot access your website. I think you did a great job on the demo lesson and want to see what you currently have to offer. Thanks.
Gemini, Often when I rteach, the tune is not a memorized piece. I teach embellishment and improvisation on the fly. Not sure if my demo and the step by step are identical...its just another way to play. By the way, I give Skype lessons and always offer a FREE, see if you like it, lesson if you are interested.
Is this “Lesson 2” the lesson that should follow “Lesson 1,” The Anatomy of the Hammered Dulcimer? I’m a raw beginner, and completed Lesson 1… this a quantum leap from that Lesson 1. Am I missing something? Thanks, anyone!
Brett, it was so good to meet you in the Pocono's. :) Hope that we get together again soon. Well done on the video. Keep it up.
This was so very helpful! Thank you. Will try and figure out how to pay for another lesson.
You don't need to pay anything!

Thank you for the very kind words!

THANK YOU LISA!!!
Excellent! Thank you...very, very helpful!
Excellent approach to teaching. I'd like to hear the tune at a medium speed at the beginning first. 😍

PLAY THE SONG FIRST!!! It would make way more sense when trying to learn it if you knew what it was supposed to sound like.
I have started doing that a while back.
