  • Towing a 3500lb trailer (380lb tongue weight) with a 2021 4Runner. Horse power wasn't an issue, but the weight of the trailer was pushing the 4Runner around, especially over 55 MPH. Getting sway on the highways as well as a generally exhausting herky jerky ride. Steering was sloppy because of sag in rear suspension.
    Installed the Andersen Weight Distribution No Sway hitch to remedy the problem. It really does work. Much easier to control now. Pleasant to tow and worth the money.

    I have this trailer. Pull it with 2015 f150. Had to put weight distribution and sway hitch. This trailer towed worse than anything I have ever pulled. I believe due to the light weight and height it just gets knocked around from wind passing cars extra. The hitch did help but like you said I never relaxed pulling the trailer. And I’m no road warrior either I keep it 60/65 they hate me here in Texas but this trailer is a mess with trucks passing or wind shoot even a f350 can trigger your attention. Love the trailer park it anywhere from parking lots when fishing to just taking it to the local park for bbq it fits in a car space with everything a large camper has. However, I am not just cooking and watching tv in this camper I’m out doing thing or it could get small. Lol enjoy

      I'm just about to get one of these trailers, have a 2019 1/2 ton Silverado LTZ Z71 with tow package. I was looking for something smaller than my dual axle 19' about 5k pounds for getting into more remote places, but if this thing will be jumping around while heading down the highway that kind of defeats the whole purpose. I've got a Equalizer sway control hitch.

    The issue that nobody thinks about is overloading the trailer axle with these weight distribution systems on single axles. You’re moving weight through the frame of your trailer to your trailer axle which is usually near max weigh capacity before weight distribution….

    I’m trying to figure out why you needed to go up with your hitch. I got a wolf pup 16bhs and needed to drop BEFORE I got new coils. Looks good though, except what Bob mentioned about the angled brackets. Highly recommend WDH to anyone hauling over an hour from home. I swear by it since getting run off the road in a construction zone. Saved my family’s life. I went with a husky though. A LOT more creaking at camp going around turns, but steady as a rock at high speed/wind.

    • @JonBecker81
      @JonBecker81 Год назад +1

      They are supposed to have that angle.

    • @videozar_
      @videozar_  Год назад

      My camper has a flipped axel so is probably 6" higher than your Wolfpup. That's why the hitch is raised rather than lowered.
      I know the brackets look odd at that angle but that's actually how they are designed to work.

    • @videozar_
      @videozar_  Год назад

      Thanks Cameron. The RV port/canopy isn't a kit. I bought it and had it installed by a place in town. It's anchored to the ground with twelve 3-foot long screws installed at angles. I don't think it will blow away, but the thing sways like crazy if the wind is strong. I'm going to need to reinforce it with some rigid posts eventually.

    Your brackets on the trailer frame is an issue. They should be straight up and down not on an angle. Ck with Anderson to get that corrected. I give you a 👍 for getting trailer and truck set up correctly though, so many folks totaly unaware of correct squat and trailer nose orientation

    • @videozar_
      @videozar_  2 года назад

      Thanks boss. I wondered about that bracket angle too. But, believe it or not, that's how it shows them in the instructions. Definitely seems odd, but is apparently intentional.

    • @JonBecker81
      @JonBecker81 Год назад +1

      I think they are supposed to be that way. I’ve watched other videos and they mentioned that angle and it’s intentional.

    • @r.m.3092
      @r.m.3092 10 месяцев назад

      @@JonBecker81 You are correct. They SHOULD NOT be mounted straight up and down. The angle they are mounted (like the OP has) provides a sort of "wedge" that prevents the brackets from sliding down the trailer frame towards the ballmount. If mounted straight up and down then you are only counting on the set screw to prevent the brackets from sliding forward, which they will do, possibly damaging your frame. Don't ask me how I know....😒

    Good info, thanks! I have your exact 4Runner. I want to tow a 19 footer with it. What is your gas mileage like? And, do you shift manually and stay in 4th gear? In Tennessee I’m sure you have steep grades how’s your rig do on the hills? It looks great! Thanks for posting your video!

    • @videozar_
      @videozar_  Год назад +1

      Thanks Aaron. I get between 10 and 11 MPG when towing in normal weather up and down hills. I took a 5500 mile road trip out west. Crossing Kansas I was getting 7 or 8 because of the wind.
      No trouble with horse power at all. Can go 70mph and merge into traffic fine. Wind is the only problem. Had trouble staying in 4th going through Kansas and the Dakotas. Up steep grades will be 3rd as well.
      Really not bad at all since getting the Anderson hitch. Would never want to go on a long trip without it. 4Runner was getting pulled all over the place. Now I drive with one hand comfortably.
