    I've driven pretty much every modern Ferrari and you hit the nail on the head. And yes the 296 is a light, compact, nimble track weapon. That being said my order was cancelled and I'm currently shopping for 488's. I was die hard 458 but I've warmed up to the 488 over the past couple months. It's a great time to be a car guy! Now just gotta scoop up something fun before EV ruins everything!

    Great video. Thanks for an honest review. I had 458, 812, and F8 and just got a 296. 296 is better than everything I have owned. Used car values will drop over the next 12 months and then this car will be a value if you can get it under 300K.

    I have 2017 488 spider. Absolutely made me a Ferrari for life guy. Her name is Farrah. She’s yellow and she takes her top off without ever asking me why

    I wanted to say this since watching your recent video on the M3 CS: You guys are absolutely some of the best car reviewers that I've seen on RUclips, and I watch everyone. Your level of detail and discussion about the nuances of the cars are amazing. Thank you.

    Thanks for sharing! Maybe you should drive a 430 Scuderia. Much much more visceral. 510 Horses are just right with 1380kg. For me its the best V8 midengine Ferrari of all Time. 😊

    Excellent discussion and your points are spot on. How do you feel now 1 year later as the market has changed? I just bought a goat spec 488 coupe after driving an 812 superfast for 9 months. Also my buddy is getting a 296 coupe so very much looking forward to experiencing that as well. I feel like ferrari is at a good place right now (as is mclaren) and we are benefiting from some of the most amazing ice cars of all time.

    you should have driven a 458! becuase the question youre asking if we are now comprimising on cars and are we past the prime. for me 90% of the enjoyment is the sound! no turbo v8 ever sounds as good as N/A and thats why a v12 is one of the most glorius things ever.

    • @carhoney
      @carhoney  Год назад +1

      The 458 is legendary so that's really hard to compare to anything now because I think all of us would choose it over the new cars...wanted to put up a more even fight for comparison!

      @@carhoney fair enough and you did do a great review. The answer is obvious though … non of the new stuff no matter how fast or capable is better than the cars from 90s to 2000s sadly the best days are behind us.

      I’ve owned both the 458 & 488 spiders. The 488 is a little better in ever way except for that 458 wail above 7000rpm, it is addictive but you can’t drive around all the time at that rpm. The 488 turbo torque wins out and it still sounds pretty damn good.

      @@brettf4970 Thanks for the insight Brett! Which sounds better to you at mid-range RPM’s?

      458 is a history...no need keep mentioning about 458
      Time to move on to a better model.. 488

    @car honey why was the sound so much louder and crisper at 3:53? Was that a mic on the exterior of the car? It partly sounded like a 458 at the top end

    pictures don't make this car justice when i saw it in the flesh it looked incredible
    it also sounded really good and loud
    the f8 in my eyes is sexier but the sound wasn't there an aftermarket exhaust is mandatory.

    If you don’t like the shifting in the 488 then never drive an Aventador LP700-4. Or maybe you should. I certainly gained a newfound appreciation for the smoothness of the dual clutch.

    • @carhoney
      @carhoney  Год назад

      True that, although now I sometimes find myself missing the theater of those shifts…except when on track.

    Very Good, knowledgeable video review. Insightful comments during your drive of the 488.
    My wife gave me the gift of an "Extreme Experience" drive in the Ferrari 488, 3 laps around a local race track near Seattle with a professional driver coach in the passenger seat. Read some and watched instructional racing videos discussing corner entry, trail braking etc (Driver61 videos highly recommended). Sensibly - no trail braking allowed by "Extreme Experience" for us amateurs, but the Ferrari 488 was breathtaking to drive. Without any prior track experience, but benefiting from a great coach in the car with me, I unintentionally lapped the Porshe ahead of us at the end of the 1st lap (negotiated in stages by the professional coach), the Ferrari 488 was just that capable. That day everyone was saying the Ferrari 488 was having the best lap times of all the various supercars on the racetrack.
    Really hoping an angel investment last year in my brother the doctor's medical services company does extraordinarily well and a few years from now there are a few Ferrari 488's on the market near Seattle.
    Subscribed and look forward to more of your videos.
