- Peak District walk and bivy bag wild camping on Kinder Scout.
Hello I'm Paul.
Thank you for watching my video.
In this video I head to Hayfield in Derbyshire. I park up and head for Kinder Scout, past the Kinder reservoir and via William Clough. My bag packed for an evening of wild camping. I head up towards where I find a nice spot to spend the night in my Snugpack stratosphere bivi bag and a first outing for the Alpkit Skyhigh 700 down sleeping bag.

Watch out for more videos of the Peak District National Park
Not sure why people dislike this video. Paul has taken the time and effort to make a video to benefit other people. If you don't like it just go watch something else and spare us the negativity. Keep up the good work sunshine
Cheers H. I'm not going to lose sleep over a few thumbs down. It's probably Spielberg and Lucas....they're not impressed with my special effects. Not sure I would have made it down that rock face if i'd supped as much as you and Joey D in your last video.
I agree Hazey, it's a good video...very well done and informative. 5 dislikes. Maaan I've been getting dislikes for my brothers tribute videos. I mean go figure that amid someones grief. Some people have stinking thinking for sure. All the best....Mark
Just subscribed, great video beautiful scenery
Trolls that waste their life.
The dislikes are all from landowners who hated the Kinder trespass 😂🤣
never seen this one before. a very young looking Mr Messner :) .
Just stumbled across this after all the videos I’ve watched of ya , great vid !
Thanks for taking me along on your trip. I love your videos.
My mate and I walked to the summit of Kinder Scout when we were 15 years old. ( I'm 70 now. ) As Londoners we did not know what " dew " was. Only had tartan car blankets. When we woke up in the morning, we were both drenched to the skin. We had no idea where the rain came from. ( still not sure ).
My first camping experience wasn't that great either. 😂 Glad that the video brought back memories
Hello from America! I really like the Peak District. It is really beautiful. I am enjoying your videos a lot.
I'm really enjoying all of Pauls videos...I can't believe you can just turn up and camp out at these beautiful locations...I can't wait to give it a go...
Good video mate. Nice sleeping bag too. It's the best sleeping bag I have ever had.
Cheers Ben...first time I've used it but first impressions are good. The DWR coating was pretty effective as the little bit of condensation just beaded off the outside.
@@PaulMessner That's an Outstanding & important piece to here Paul, Thank You, .. Mike.
Hi Paul, yes cheers to you mate. Now that was a perfect outdoor sofa. Oh how satisfying it is to feel life this way. Beautiful. Really enjoyed your commentary throughout - a good accompaniment to the great visuals. Take care and all the very best. Mark
+Wye Explorer thanks for watching and taking time to comment. Really glad you enjoyed the video. ATB Paul
Good observations Pal, Comments like that appreciated by the Circle! Blessings from the U.S. ... Mike.
Wooooow I’ve only watched your recent videos(2023-2020) nice to find this video
The good old days 😂
Bring back the flat cap!
What a great video - really liked the simple bivvy and tarp approach - and what a spot. Cheers Paul.
Agreed, .. SMART! ... Mike.
Amazing video.thank you for posting it...looks amazing
Hi Paul, I’ve only just discovered your channel and especially liked your Osprey packing one. Great work and love seeing that I’m not the only one who likes a cheeky beer when away. Take care and I look forward to the next one 👌🏻
Nice vid.
Beautiful scenery.
Thanks for watching. I appreciate the kind words.Paul
Well Paul, interesting to note you seem chuffed to have 100 subscribers. Now over 25000! Well done, youve come a long way, literally.
Now 132,000!
Great vid Paul...Missed this one, great views...funny quips too...lol...cheers for sharing this with us atb Lee
The views are awesome up there Lee...Thanks for watching. ATB Paul
Thanks mate , really enjoyed that
Nice account Paul,
Kinder would make a perfect landing pad for a giant mothership,
but I think the daleks would struggle with the groughs & cloughs :)
thank you for watching. I think ET wouldn't want to go home if he went to the Peak District
I've only recently discovered your wonderful videos. Although I've walked and camped for many years, I only did my first wild camp last summer, I pitched just below Mermaids Pool. A lovely part of the world. Most of my kit needs upgrading as it is quite old and heavy by today's standards. I have a couple of Ultimate Peapod two man tents that I bought in the 1980's for instance. I thought they were really high tech after using Vango Force 10's that weigh an absolute ton unless you can share the separate parts around a group. Thank you for producing your informative and entertaining videos.
Keep up the good work.
Your video, strangely perhaps, reminds me of camping alone in Cortland, AZ, a ghost town not far from Tombstone.
What a great spot.
i love your bivi wild camping videos paul it makes me want to dig out my 35 year old wild country goretex bivi bag !
Awesome Video, how have I not seen this one before?
Absolutely fantastic paul, love watching your vids mate keep them coming
Thank you Darrell
Alright Paul. Brilliant video of your over night camp in the peak district. Thanks for sharing. Cheers Gary
Cheers Gary. I appreciate the support.
Haha, i'm watching this shortly after you crossed the 50k subscriber threshold. Congrats on that, by the way.
Won't lie to you though, even though your channel is getting better and better, there's a welcome rough-around-the-edges quality to these vids from 3+years ago that's still quite charming.
Cheers, from Toronto.
Its now 131k.
Great video, Paul, just watching this stuff is relaxing. :)
Thanks for watching. Best wishes, Paul
Love your videos paul. Greetings from a sheffield lad.
Great video Paul from one wild camper to another! Keep em coming buddy!
Another enjoyable video, thanks.
Thank you Phil. Really pleased that you enjoyed the video. More to come. ATB Paul
Great spot I wild camped just above were you were great location
Another cracking Video ;)
Fabulous video Paul!
Spent 2 nights their 2 weeks ago, rain & wind so bad could barely see anything up top. Followed the fence path down past mermaids and into the woods for a relatively calm night in the woods. Excellent place to camp with free flowing water on tap. Weather slightly better next day but still zero visibility uptop. First time I went had lovely weather, just this time it wasn't to be.
Great video.I love Kinder Scout.I plan to do a camp there in the next few weeks.
Thanks for watching. All the best...Paul
paul, i have always known this route you took to be sandy haze ,william clough is to the left.i live in new mills and have been up kinder many many time, good vid, nice one
This just popped up on my feed , love it Paul …. The end where u thank people for subscribing and you’d just broke the 100 mark 😮 …. How far you’ve come 👏🏼 …. I’ve just broke the 400 mark myself , wonder where I’ll be in 7 years 🤔 , if I have a quarter of what u have I’ll be more than happy 👍🏼 …. Great hobby this is , and again thanks for inspiring me , completed my first camp just a few weeks ago and posted on my channel , people seemed to love it , many more to come , and hopefully I’ll bump into u one day 😁💪🏼👍🏼 …. All the best 🙌🏼
excellent paul, looked like a fair hike in you must have been pretty shagged out by the time you got there but the rewards made it all worth it
Red sky at night, sailors delight. Red sky in the morning, sailors warning :). Enjoyed this mate, as do i enjoy all of them lol
would love to see you dabble in some bushcraft, maybe forage a little?
Young Paul Messner 🤣 how things have changed pal . Great vid as always
Still one of my fav videos you’ve put out. This one got me inspired to get out myself. Love the wrong left turn at the start of the Res and I believe those lights are from New Mills.
Cracking vid again mate. You and uncle Haze should do a collaboration video. Now that would be epic. All the best.
That would be good. I keep checking my inbox waiting for him to say "hi" 😁
This Member of Our Circle agrees with That! just a time or two would do it. Exceptional idea that I too shared! YOU READING THIS HAZY?
Just come here from you latest video, November 2021. You look like a 12 year-old (with whiskers) in this video! Your journey down must have taken ages, what with setting up the camera, walking away from it, coming back, going past it, then returning to collect it so many times - well done.
Great Video Paul, I have wild camped around that area on a few occasions now, great scenery. liked your set up seemed very cosy. just subbed ATB Steve
+steve butler thanks for watching Steve and thanks for sub. New video uploaded today.
love the video looks a nice place there, going to camp there my self in next couple of week
keep up the good work.
Hey, great video…..really professional and loads of effort went into it….I honestly think if you kept this up you’d be able to quit your job and do this for a living. 😉 lol,
It’s great to go back over some of the old camps. Lifts my mood greatly. Cheers.
Best comment I’ve had in ages. These were the days. Never dreamed things would turn out this way. I feel so so lucky. Thanks for the memories 😍
great to see you back and what a cracking trip to dshare
+wild camping wales thank you. Glad you enjoyed it. More of the same to come. ATB Paul
I've PM'd you W.C.W. It was a cracking video...Just realized I can't PM you. A question. What do you look for in a video?
I'm waiting for the 'long' version of the 700 to come back into stock. Nice video!
Thanks for watching. i'm very happy with the bag's quality, weight and pack size....the true test will be in the really cold weather . ATB Paul
Greetings Paul, from your newest subscriber. You mentioned in this vid that you'd just topped 100 subscribers - so I guess you didn't expect it to grow to 3.3k !!! Anyway, I'm really pleased to have found your channel, and am hoping to catch up on your adventures. Atb.
Thanks for watching. Glad you are enjoying the videos
Me Too! ... Mike.

Looking well young here pauly
How do you find the paramo jacket mate
Thumbs up for the really funny UFO joke up there! Thanks
The Kinder Forest is a Country scene that is powerfully Beckoning to an Oregonian of the Mighty Pacific Northwest of the U.S.A. ... Mike,
A very nicely produced video, Paul, well done. Although I worked in Hayfield for a while, I never once ventured up on Kinder at all, shame on me. Your video pointed out the beauty I missed by not being curious enough back in those days pre-bypass era. I have been walking the Sett Valley trail a few times lately photographing the wildlife, so I do know the general area and can see what attracted you to camp above Kinder reservoir. Take care...
Great video, stunning place, really well made video. Subscribed.
+Gaziano Outdoors thanks for the sub and for taking the time to comment. Glad you enjoyed the video. I've just uploaded a new wild camp in Castleton. Feel free to check it out. Best wishes Paul
What a cracking camp! I’m new to your channel and am enjoying your videos, ive only been wild camping for a year and have camped on the north side of Kinder but not the south yet, looks amazing.
excellent video. well put together
Thank you Jonathan. Glad you enjoyed the video. Thanks for watching
Just head the “just broke the 100subs comment”,now you’re over 6,600! Well done and keep going!
Nice video, damn it got me a little Smile at the end you said "Broke the 100 subscriber Mark" :-)
It seems like ages ago. I still appreciate every subscriber and also try and answer my messages and comments. Getting quite difficult now
@@PaulMessner It's important to spread the reply's out and touch as many of your Old Time Subscribers as possible without overlapping same answers. ... M.
Nice one Paul just found your channel. Awesome spot there! Its been quite a while since iv been up to the peaks! Epic though! Atb Tim
Thank you Tim. Glad you like the video. I need to get back up there camping myself. Most of my recent camps and videos have been in the lakes. Best wishes. Paul
Really enjoyed this one. Subbed

Hi Paul, do you have a link to that stove setup you used to cook your curry? Thanks.

Good vid. Keep it going.
Cheers James. Thanks for popping by and watching.
I got your reply just as I was getting last minute things for a trip to the Peaks tomorrow (Castleton).
Have a good trip mate.
Congratulations on the 100 subs Paul. So much time and effort goes into producing each video. The view looked great from your pitch. We went up Black rock the same day. Was lovely weather. The 13 guns is a nice drop. Try Brew Dog Punk IPA if you liked it. Cheers.
Thank you Friz. The view was indeed great. Very impressed with the 13 guns. I've had brew dog a few time....another nice tipple. I spend more time walking back for three camera than climbing hills :). Cheers
Where you not concerned if it rained you'd get soaked from the open side of the bivvy?
I'm wild camping in the garden tonite.
how much water does a streem need to be a river ?
I'm a late comer to this vid Paul. Where did you get that cook set/wind reflector from? Have you done a review on it? Looks really neat.
stormin stoves website
Cheers Paul. Be a good review if you do one.
whats the building at 19.37 please ? an old train station ?
where are you from Paul you sound like your not far from stoke
I'm about 10 miles south of Sheffield so not too far away
@@PaulMessner ah no mate I knew it wasn't too far away I was thinking maccelsfield buxton way
Hey Paul :) I was wondering how long it took to walk back to Hayfield from the forrest you were in? :)
paul how would you contact the landowner for permission to wild camp?
Great video, Paul. Very relaxing.
I really like the little burner/kettle you use. Looks practical. Does it have a name?
(Sorry, if it was mentioned in a previous video.)
Thanks for the kind comments. The mug I use is the Alpkit 650 titanium mug and it fits in the stormin cone which can be bought on eBay. The cones are custom made to any size pot you have.
Paul Messner Found them. :)
Thanks for the response.

another good video and camp paul, I was around mermaids pool not long back and kinder downfall but I didn't walk through the wood, I might try that one day. looking forward to next one. I`ve got to try a video and not just pictures. atb kev
cheers. Kev...I say give the video a go.
So do I ,, Yes Sir, give the Video a Go Pal! ... Mike.
@@PaulMessner So do I, He really should give the Video a Go! ... Mike.
Here's the thing tho Paul walked that way yesterday and its beautiful but wild camping is illegal in the Peak District and any fire is stupid
Watch out for Sirens from Mermaid’s Pool! Beautiful!
"I broke the 100 subscriber mark this week, which I'm really pleased with" 😊
Great work James. It's surprising how quickly the subs mount up. Well done and keep it going. That is the key element.
@@PaulMessner Oh Paul, I was quoting your own words taken from this video, and marvelling at your progress! So...thanks for the kind words, but please direct them at yourself! 😁
That went right over my head mate. I think when we start out making videos, we tend to set those kind of milestones. The first 100 is the toughest I think. Now rather than subs or views, I like to see the comments and how the video has hopefully helped someone or given them a little entertainment. I still try and answer them all but it’s tough going with a full time job and family life. 👍🏻
@@PaulMessner Haha no worries. Your videos definitely entertain, educate and inspire. Who would've thought I'd be watching the same camping videos more than once each? You're doing it right! Always looking forward to the next one. Glad to hear your back is settling down 👌
