Exploring The Terrifying Hanging Coffins | The Death Ritual (Cemetery In The Sky)

  • inside Sagada, Philippines Instead of being placed into the ground, the coffins are hung either inside the caves or on the face of the cliffs, near the hanging coffins of their ancestors. The Sagada people have been practicing such burials for over 2,000 years, and some of the coffins are well over a century old. Eventually the coffins deteriorate and fall from their precarious positions.
The reason the coffins were hung was due to the belief that the higher the dead were placed, the greater chance of their spirits reaching a higher nature in the afterlife. Many of the locations of the coffins are difficult to reach (and obviously should be left alone out of respect)

The body inside the coffins are in a fetal position. This is due to the belief that people should leave the world in the same position as they entered it, also their beliefs in reincarnation.

Btw, the humongous butterfly that you just saw inside your room is called " MARIPOSA" by some of us Filipinos.
    Edit:
And btw, if you ask some Filipinos if what seeing or being visited by a MARIPOSA symbolizes is that it symbolizes, rebirth or resurrection; transformation and hope or sometimes it's just a good omen or good luck 🍀
And by hearing that you just came back to your old roots which is exploring, maybe just maybe , that butterfly is welcoming you and maybe it's a sign that you chose the right path by coming back and exploring the world again.

Mariposa is just Spanish for butterfly but yes in many cultures butterflies represent rebirth (because they start as caterpillars and go through a metamorphosis) It's also a common belief in Filipino culture that butterflies and moths are the souls of the recently departed 🦋

I saw the same in China. Im not sure how wide spread it is in China, but they do have some areas that do the same. I saw them at a place called Wu Yi Shan, which is famous for Ooolong Tea. You can go down the river on a bamboo raft, the cliffss over hanging the river have the hanging coffins.

When entering a place like that please say : hello .... Excuse me , I'm coming in !
    That's someone's resting place 🤍
Be polite .... It's just like entering someone's home ....

Josh, when you guess someone's age, go 10 yrs younger than you believe. Trust me, they will love you for it. I would have guessed George younger. He baited you when he asked you to guess. It is a thing for people over 25 to 30 or so. Or ones who are feeling their age. I did believe George to be younger by how he acts and looks.

I wondered, after you explained the tradition of these people, if they are stuck hanging out up there on there coffins, "like, GET US DOWN!"

At least you laughed at yourself from slipping and nearly falling to your death.
When I went 4 wheeling for the first time...the 4 wheeler I was on tipped up and I ended up on the ground. The wheeler start coming down on me and I with quick reaction put my feet up and prevented it from falling on me. I laughed after it happened but it made me scared shitless.

    5:26 - MOTH - Screaming like a bunch of little girls.....over a moth??!! 🤦‍♀️
6:20 - Machete - That's what you need Josh when you go traipsing through the woods on some of your explores. 🗡️
6:49 - CHOSEN - Meaning only the ones who pay the most. 😉
    8:37 - SPIDERS - Nightmare fuel for Josh. 🕷️
11:35 - FALL - Josh was bored and wanted to create his own slip & slide. 🛝
17:03 - BONES - To me....THAT is disrespectful. Allowing their bones and coffin to be in that shape. (Falling out of the coffin) The town should get together and build another coffin and put the bones back in and put the coffin wherever. ☠️
26:24 - FIDO - Killing dogs and cats for food is disgusting! That's why I won't have anything to do with the Asian culture. I have NO respect for them. They're corrupt, morally bankrupt and have no respect for the sanctity of innocent life. 🐶
30:12 - JUICES - Are those body juices staining the cliff face? 🤔
    😇.
