An amazing video of this entire area. We have travelled these routes by train but never before have really seen the beauty of it all. Thanks for the journey. 👍👍👍. 9-24-2023
Surprising that they left the old pre-tunnel railway tracks in place. Here in the UK when lines were closed the tracks were pulled up for re-use or scrap pretty quickly.
They had plans for the old track between Finse and Lågheller. One of the plans was to run the section with a steam locomotive, on this section there were almost only snow sheds, little view compared to today when all the snow sheds are gone. It is not even allowed to drive bicycle trolleys on the old line.
Thanks for enjoying the video. My only regret is that the equipment cannot yet record and transmit odors) I began to look to relax and fall asleep, but could not tear myself away from the magnificent pictures of nature.
@@imh9456 I'm guessing it's clean)) but all these mountain herbs must smell delicious. It's very good that the video only lasts two hours. If only this whole journey had been done on foot...)
@@FalcoRusticolus It is barren land, and in short summers, the scent of wild plants, then you have to go below the tree line. It is about 60 km from Finse down to Flåm. It is a long day trip, most people camp or spend the night at DNT's cabin at Hallingskeid.
Awesome ride on a beautiful day. I have plans, to ride this from Finse until Myrdal (that is the part, I would like to do), although I still do not know, if I will stay a few days in Finse. I am also a kind of railway-fan (For your info: I am a member of 'The Herd") and I wan to stay a few days in BErgen as well. I have also watched a few of your other Rallarvegen-trips. You have to have some luck, when you plan this ride long before, of course. The drone shots at Lågheller are stunning, despite the clouds. Good view of the trace of the old Bergen-line here. The goats simply occupy the road to Flåm. One is for sure: I will take a lot of pictures!!
Thank you Harry, regarding cycling on this road late July is the first chance for a snow free road unless you like to walk the bike over snowbanks , if there is s very snow rich year the snow will not melt on part of the road until late August.
Bø, there are so many factors that come into play, but if I were to guess, you're talking about less than an hour. The vast majority of people who cycle this way only do it once and often spend a whole day up in the high mountains, especially if the weather is nice.
Wow!!?? What a landscape. All those boulders make it look unfinished. Amazed the old railway tracks are still there. I suppose its an insurance for the new tunnel, Would be nice if the old track was over ballasted to provide an easier cycle/walking route and still have a just in case railway in place.
The reason why tracks is still not removed , they had a plan to run steam trains on the old path from Finse down to Lågheller but it never happend. Some of the old tunnels are blocked by snow\ice year around so it is impossible to walk or cycle. We are very privileged to be able to walk or cycle in the high mountains, Banenor owns and maintains the road, it is open for only cyclists and hikers, lenght of this road is 80 km from Flåm to Haugastøl and i was built in the late 1800's as an supply road for building the Bergenline. Thanks for watching .
Unfortunately the section Finse (km 302,31) to Høgkeller (km 318,57) of the Bergensbanen via Taugevand (1301,0 m) is completely abandoned but the track is existing there completely up to this day. During the summer this would be a special tourist attraction comparable to Myrdal - Flåm
@@imh9456 In Switzerland there exists a comparable situation: In 1982 the rack railway between Oberwald and Realp traversing the Furka pass has been replaced by a long tunnel (15,442 km) and the old line has been given up. But in 1987 a society called "Dampfbahn Furka Bergstrecke" (DFB) (= Steam Furka Mountain Railway) has been founded and exclusively during the summer there will run trains with steam locomotives.
30 years ago the Bergen line did run on the old path (Finse Lågheller), Finse tunnel was open in 1993. All the snowsheds and other infrastructur is removed today, and navvyroad has had a lot of work done to it.
круто, смотрел не отрываясь !

Goooood
If you are using an assist bike, how much longer would this take with a conventional bike?

Awesome day for a ride IMH
It was Mr M and the best part no sound or light pollution and crisp clear air , well you can hear a train now and then

There was a plan to run steam loco in summer time, i dont think we will see this track in use.

Very nice, which month is this video was shot?
September 2023 :)
